Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
"Im sure you will do fine" he encouraged with a purr. "Well, I better get some rest." He rose to his paws and stretched his forelegs. "Ill see you tomorrow, Lastpaw" he mewed dismissively as he turned away and bounded off toward the apprentice's den and disappeared inside.
----Time Skip----
Foxpaw padded into camp, his paws aching from the training he had done that morning. Despite his exhaustion and aching paws, he couldnt wait to go fishing with Lastpaw. He scanned the clearing in search of her.
Lastpaw and Firstpaw were in a corner practicing fighting. It seemed, in this area at least that Lastpaw held an almost insurmountable advantage. The dark she-cat's moves were crisp and sure, possessing a confidence that was so noticeably absent from other areas.
Foxpaw noticed them and padded up, his feathery tail held high. "Hi Lastpaw! Hi Firstpaw!" He greeted with enthusiasm. "Are you ready to go fishing?" He asked, tilting his head, eyes gleaming.
The two broke apart and Lastpaw stepped forward to meet him. "I am." She murrowed. Firstpaw had sat down in a shaft of sunlight nearby and started grooming, leaving the two to their devices.
"Are you coming, too?" He asked Firstpaw. He didn't mind whether she tagged along or not. She knew how close the two sisters were and how inseparable they could be. He wanted to give Firstpaw the option to come along but he was fine if she didn't. He also didn't want her to feel like a third wheel when Lastpaw is teaching him to fish.
"No, you two go along and have fun." Firstpaw purred. "Just don't do anything I wouldn't do!" Lastpaw gave a noncommittal growl at her sister's remark and headed toward the camp exit. "Well? You coming?"
"Alright, see how our shadows are behind us, and not falling across the water? That's what we want." Lastpaw's voice was quiet and brusque. "And keep your voice down, and remain as still as possible."
Foxpaw nodded in understanding, though his paws trembled with anticipation. "Where are the fish?" He asked softly but rushed and excitedly. Then he gasped, "Oh look! Theres one!" He shouted and the fish swam the other direction. He frowned, knowing he messed up.
He caught sight of her amusement toward him and felt a little embarrassed. "Sorry...what do we do next?" He asked more calmly now though his excitement still bubbled. He loved trying new things and he thought this was fun. He saw squirrels and mice every day even when he wasnt hunting them. He didnt always get to see fish. They stayed in one area. Squirrels, mice, and birdd were everywhere.
"Now..." She started, her voice still hushed. "We wait quietly for them to forget we're here." Even as Lastpaw spoke, a few had scattered back into reach. "Then, once you choose your target, aim for where it's going to be rather than where it is. Understand?" She remembered how very long it had taken her to get it right. It had been a good week before she'd managed. Would Foxpaw show more promise? Did she want him to?
He nodded in understanding once more, a goofy smile on his handsome face as he watched the fish gather around again. He wanted to just dive in and hope for the best but he knew he would most likely ruin their fishing trip. His tail flicked behind him in anticipation. This was it. He was going to catch a fish and he hoped he would. He wanted to impress Lastpaw.
He jabbed his paw into the water hoping to hook a fish like he had seen cats do before. Unfortunately, when he jabbed his paw into the water, he hadnt balanced himself properly and the force he had with the scooping motion unbalanced him and he landed in the freezing water. The coldness of the water shocked him and he quickly climbed out of the water, dripping wet. He looked at Lastpaw with an apologetic and embarrassed look on his face. He was no longer cold due to the heat rising under his pelt at the embarrassment he felt. "Oops...I dont think I did that right..."
Lastpaw rested her tail on his shoulder, a rare gesture from the stoic she-cat. "You would of had to have been some sort of prodigy to get it right the first time." She reassured him. "Do you want to try again, or would you like to go back to camp and warm up?"
He purred, appreciating the she-cat's rare gesture and assurance. "I want to keep trying" He mewed with a smile, moving away a few foxlengths to shake out his pelt so that he wouldn't spray her. He came back and sat down beside her again, his pelt brushing hers. "Can you show me what I did wrong?"
