Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
( in this thread, Maplenose is making her escape with her kits, Amberkit and Quartzkit, to SummerClan. She returns for Obsidiankit and Topazkit, yet is unable to retrieve them due to Skeletonkey standing in her way. She is forced to part ways with them and return to SummerClan with only two of her kits on hand. The kits are currently four moons old. )
It was a cold, dreary new-leaf night. The moon was high above the heavens, beaming down upon the residents of the mountain and lighting up the trees with an eerie glow. The chirping of birds have died down, all slumbering within their nests, nestled up against their families. The only noise to be heard were the faraway cries of the crickets, and the pawsteps of a worried mother. Two little kits followed after her eagerly, playing together in hushed whispers and grins apparent on their faces.
Maplenose looked back at Amberkit and Quartzkit with a smile, though her eyes were gleaming with sorrow and fear. Sorrow for what she was about to do, and fear for what was to come. Skeletonkey would awaken to find his kits gone, and of course, Eternalstar would probably organize a patrol to find the 'lost' kits and their mother. Maplenose knew the gravity of the situation, but nonetheless, she pressed on, heading south to SummerClan. She had heard that they were a sanctuary, full of valiant warriors led by a level-headed leader, who was both compassionate and strong. That's exactly what she needed for her and her kits. In all honesty, it didn't matter if Maplenose didn't get accepted into the clan, as long as they took in her kits. That's all that mattered.
She had a plan. She was going to tuck Amberkit and Quartzkit away in the undergrowth of the forest, on the edge of SummerClan's territory. And then, she would go back and retrieve Topazkit and Obsidiankit, and complete her dangerous mission.
Once she got to the edge of SummerClan territory, she turned towards her two kits with love apparent in her amber eyes. "Listen, little ones," She purred, grabbing their attention, "sit here inside this bush and wait for mommy to come back. I'll be back very soon, I promise. Do not move." She gave them one last lick on their heads before turning and disappearing into the shadows, moving back into SpringClan territory to go retrieve her two other kits.
What she didn't know, though, is that someone was waiting for her. And that someone could very well cost her her life.
“Mommy-“ Quartzkit lifted her paw to touch her mother’s face, to bring her back to her side, to nuzzle her face in her chest. She was scared without her; where were Obsidiankit and Topazkit? Why was her mother so nervous? Where were they? She took a step forward after the retreating tail of Maplenose but stopped, looking back at her sister. Whimpering quietly, she padded back over and nuzzled into her sister, shielding her tear filled eyes in her flank.
Skeletonkey had been awake, lingering in the shadows outside the den, watching silently as the accursed mother of his children took two of them away. Inwardly he was elated — he wouldn’t have to deal with them — but he needed leverage. He knew she’d come back for the other two. Her sad little heart wouldn’t be able to bear losing her favorite. He grinned.
Leaping from the treeline, the black and white marbled tom launched into the queen’s side, claws unsheathed. His intent was to rip into her and judging by the tearing sound of fur, he’d made his mark. Bringing himself to his feet, he stood in front of her.
“Out for a little stroll in the moonlight, love?” He licked a claw free of a drop of blood, sitting and curling his tail around his paws.
She had just barely made it to where she was only a couple minutes outside of camp. She could smell the other cats, slumbering deep within their dens, and she knew that Obsidiankit and Topazkit were waiting for her. Just a little bit farther-
Without warning, someone slammed into her side, and the burning feeling of claws digging deep into her flesh caused a high-pitched shriek to leave her vocals. She went tumbling to the earth, skidding across the ground and leaving a smear of blood in her wake. She didn't have time to hesitate; in an instant, she was on her feet, whipping around to face her attacker.
"Skeletonkey?!"
The she-cat was taken back from the sight of her mate - now ex-mate - smirking sadistically at her, licking a drop of her blood from his claws. "No, no, NO!" She cried out, tears forming in her eyes and dripping down her cheeks, wetting her fur. "Get out of my way!" She exclaimed, and with a snarl, she launched herself at Skeletonkey, her claws coming in contact with his chest and digging in as far as they could go. She began to rip wildly at him, fur and blood spilling onto the ground in her wake. She knew she was no match for Skeletonkey, but she'd be damned if she didn't go down without a fight.
Topazkit huddled to the side of the den along with Obsidiankit. Where did her mother go? She said she would be back for her and she has been taking a long time. She prayed nothing had happened to her...Should they go looking for her?
Unaware of the turmoil that was possibly happening merely a little ways away, the lanky and long legged tom known as Wolfconstellation had been walking through SummerClan's territory out of sheer boredom. He wasn't too keen on wasting a perfectly good night; especially with such a beautiful array of stars. Closer his paws seemed to wander to SpringClan, until he was pacing the border in a peaceful stupor. That's when the mewling little voices of kittens made him prick his ears. Pausing his paws among the soft grass, the brown tom wandered closer still. He parted through the undergrowth and was taken aback to find two little kittens helplessly lying all by themselves. He glanced about in bewilderment. Sure, it was common for kittens to show up unattended; but he could smell the fear scent and milk from their mother. She'd been here recently. Concern making his blue eyes flash, he wandered closer to the little bodies.
He pricked his long ears and surveyed them for a moment, not wanting to get too close in case the mother came back and thought he was a worthy foe to fight off. Circling back, he decided to quietly wait for a moment to see if the mother would return. If not, he would have to intervene and take them both back to SummerClan. Heart thumping slightly, he half hoped someone else might come to where he was and help him in this predicament.
It wasn't uncommon for Summerclan cats to wander the territory at night, especially on a nice and cool green leaf evening such as tonight and Ravenstar was no exception to this. The smooth jet black she-cat loved the night time in which she could move at her own pace and take her sweet time. Occasionally she would run into a warrior or apprentice, but she tonight might be an exception. Much of the clan was tired, exhausted even, but for her this was a way to get energized and organize her thoughts on her own.
She did not hold back her surprise in seeing Wolfconstellation out and about, something seemed off as if he had a goal and an intent here and see walk up besides him. "Good evening, you seem a bit tense. Is everything alright?" It wasn't like Ravenstar to be so direct, usually she started small and built up the conversation but this didn't feel like the time or place for that as she watched him closely with her large grey eyes.
Amberkit huddled closely next to her sister. She wasn't anywhere near brave, so when she heard strangers approach them she huddled even closer- almost sinking into the earth. When she caught the gaze of Wolfconstellation, the calico kitten couldn't help but let an eep! escape her mouth. She looked to Quartzkit and back to the warrior. "Please don't hurt us... Mommy's coming back soon she said.." Her small shaky voice mixed with tremors and tears. She felt that it was wrong to speak but couldn't help herself from stopping.
He jumped in surprise as Ravenstar seemed to appear from thin air, fixing him with a very forward gaze. He was even about to indicate the kits before one of them cried out and began to talk. Letting out a sigh, he directed his gaze back to the bundles of fur and said, "That's the problem," with a somber expression. "I was waiting to see... well, if their mother was going to come back. But... I guess the kitten's already answered that."
His first idea was to approach the small felines, but then he stopped short and glanced at his Leader with a flattening of his ears. "I'm probably not the best of cats to address them either. I may not be bulky but I'm tall and kind of odd looking, so I might frighten them. I think its best if you talk to them..."
As much as it might sound funny to any other, it had always been a haunting reminder to him of his oddly long and lanky appearance. As well as the fact that despite his strong familial urge, kittens would definitely be a hard hill to climb.
Ravenstar had not noticed the small bundles nearby and had tensed at the sudden voice, but she relaxed after a few moments and watched them for a moment. Looking at Wolfocnstellation she nodded, "I will speak with them. Stay here just in case." She told him. She did not want to get too close in case their mother was scared and attacked without thinking, but she took a step forward. "We won't hurt you or your mama, I promise. What are your names?" She asked them in the tender voice that only a mother could have. The black she-cat took a few more steps forward and sniffed the air carefully. Springclan? What was a springclan queen and her kits doing all the way over here on this side of the border? She couldn't be sure without asking but she was not about to let any kits die from starvation or danger, not on her territory.
His pelt prickled with a nervous energy as he watched his Leader approach the kittens, glad at least that he wouldn't have to. Jumping with a start as Pebblefur made her appearance, he was at least glad that he recognized a familiar face among the chaotic scene before them. "Some Queen left their kittens at the border," he explained quietly. His expression was lidded with concern as he watched them. "I hope she'll come back. Its horrible growing up without parents."
Pebblefur's eyes softened more than what they usually were. "Poor little things..." then she looked at Wolfconstellation and assumed he was talking about himself. Her heart ached for him. She never knew her parents either but she guessed that she couldn't miss what she didn't remember she had. "Knowing Ravenstar, she will probably take the kits in unless the mother shows up and stops her."
"Mama's gonna come back! Please don't take us away!" Amberkit shivered and huddled even closer to her sister. "Our names... Mama can tell you our names when she gets back." While she was definitely far from the assertive type of her sister Obsionkit, Amberkit felt a surge of protectiveness rush through her. There was no way she was gonna get herself or her sister be taken by strangers while their mother is left by herself! She'll be back soon with Topazkit and Obsidionkit.
She had just barely made it to where she was only a couple minutes outside of camp. She could smell the other cats, slumbering deep within their dens, and she knew that Obsidiankit and Topazkit were waiting for her. Just a little bit farther-

At first he'd laughed, allowing her to have her way and do what damage she could, his eyes dancing with mirth. She was powerless; her claws and her teeth couldn't wound him. She'd already done enough damage by existing; let alone bringing their children into the world. He was best alone; he was a bachelor, living the high life with no worry or care. She'd ruined all of it for him. She'd taken down his life in one fell swoop and left him some caged ghost. She had wanted the perfect tom to sweep her off her feet and treat her like a princess; when he didn't deliver, she lashed out. He hummed. She was the villain in this situation. Not he. He was merely... putting an end to a torture he'd allow her to inflict for far too long.
Having enough of her petty cries and cuts, he growled and lashed out, taking his claws and raking against the flesh of her chest as he pushed her back, grunting with the power he channeled into the move. "Do you believe you have a choice in this matter? All you do is grate on my nerves with your high voice and your desperation. Most villains find satisfaction in their victim's terror," he lashed out with another paw, this blow landing across her face. "In the light that I do not, does that make me the villain or the victim? The answer should be obvious. You shackled me, bound me to you. It was your plan all along, wasn't it, Maplenose?" He tilted his head and surveyed her calmly before landing another blow. "Did you not think you could find another to imprison? Or was there something within me that you found tempting?" He chuckled. "There must have been something. You stayed. All this time you stayed. I wanted you to leave for so long. No warning, no threat, just to disappear in the night as if you never existed. And when you finally get the nerve too... it's just to get in the way of my plans. You are a frustrating little thing, aren't you?"
Quartzkit glanced at her sister before attempting to square her shoulders despite her shivering. She looked up at Ravenstar nervously. "Our mama will be back. She won't be happy if you take us away."
She nodded with a smile and sat down about a fox tail's length away. "I won't take you away, I promise. I'll wait here with you until your mama comes back so that you will be safe. Are you all from Springclan?" She asked. Of course, their scent told her the answer but she wanted to see what was going on. It was strange to see what looked like a springclan queen on the run with her kits and she wanted to make sure nothing had happened to their allies. It was not the closest allyship but so long as Eternalstar was leader she was confident they would not be attacked or threatened.
With each blow, Maplenose's consciousness began to fade.
But with the words he spoke, the pain in her heart was worse than the pain he was currently inflicting upon her.
How could she, of all felines, be the antagonist in this dreadful story? She was perfect. She had her head on straight, a beautiful life laid out before her, an incredible amount of potential, and much more. She was going to be the perfect mother, away from their horror of a father and in a new, more accepting clan. And yet, here she was, getting the life beaten out of her; she could barely stand for it.
Finally, for what only lasted a couple minutes yet felt like an hour, he stopped. Maplenose was still standing, her breaths coming out in short, quiet pants. Her beautiful calico fur was now stained with blood - her blood. The same snarl that was on her face before withstood, and it began to turn into something more ugly, more sinister.
And with that, she turned, and stumbled back towards SummerClan territory. My kits... My kits... My kits...
Obsidiankit and Topazkit, her poor little angels. What was going to happen to them? She knew she couldn't go back and save them now, not with what Skeletonkey had just done to her. She was on the verge of dying, and with each step she took, the more blood she lost. Amberkit and Quartzkit... she still had them. She needed to get back to them.
As soon as the spot she left them with came into view through the crack of bushes, Maplenose stopped in her tracks. There were SummerClan warriors who had surrounded her kits, and she felt her heart drop. "My kits..." She managed to get out, stumbling through the bush and toppling over, hitting the ground with a dull thud. Everything went black.
Ravenstar's ears perked as she heard something stumbling towards them and rather loudly at that. As the springclan queen burst through them, collapsing at the ground in front of them the leader spring to her feet and quickly rushed to her side, sniffing at the she-cat and noticing the large wounds upon her body. These were deep and she was loosing blood quickly, she would most certainly not make it back to Summerclan's camp without immediate attention and she glanced around quickly, searching the bushes for cobwebs and swaddling them around her paws. She scooped them up and limped hastily towards the she-cat.
She bagan applying the cobwebs to the largest wounds without hesitation. She may not be a medicine cat but even a kit knew that cobwebs were the only effective way to help stop bleeding like this. After several batches of cobwebs the bleeding seemed to stop enough that she looked up at her warriors. "We will take them back to the Summerclan camp for protection and medical attention for the time being. Pebblefur, take the kits to camp. Wolfconstellation, help me lift this queen so we can get her to graythorn. I think my cobwebs stopped the bleeding for now but she needs a medicine cat."
Turning to the kits briefly, she knew they needed reassurance. "We will take care of your mama. Can you go with Pebblefur to make sure you get to our camp safely?"
Moonbound I'm going to invite Whitemuzzle to participate in this thread with Graythorn c:
What do you say when your mother passes out in front of you, likely dead? What do you do when strangers are defiling her unconcious body? Amberkit didn't know, so she went with her first insticnt: scream. The tiny calico let out a yowl as she tried to rush towards her mother, only to be held back by the enourmous warriors surrounding her and her sister. "MAMA! NO!"
Pebblefur's ears perked and she stood up from her sitting position with alarm when the queen burst through the ferns and collapsed. She wanted to rush over but it looked like Ravenstar knew what she was doing. Before the kits could run to their mother, Pebblefur wrapped her feathery calico tail around the kits. "There, there." She whispered in a hushed and soothing voice. "Its alright. She will be okay. Come with me, now, little ones. We must get you and your mama somewhere safe." She started ushering the kits in the direction of the Summerclan camp as Ravenstar instructed her to do. "Don't you worry. Graythorn, our medicine cat, will take good care of her." Her voice was soothing and almost like a nurturing mother, although, she had no kits of her own. "I need you to be brave little kits, okay?"

Not knowing anything that had transpired outside the camp, Graythorn had just made his way back to his nest to settle down for some well needed sleep. He had been up during the night taking care of those who had the recurring nightmares. All he could think about was getting some rest as he sunk down into his nest. It wasn't long before sleep overtook his body.
