Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Deerpaw was a wild soul. One that truly and surely belonged to the woods. Her mother had had a hard time just keeping her in camp let alone teh nursery when she was a kit. Now she was free. Free as a bird. Constantly her paws wondered the land she called home. Finding trouble and adventure everywhere she went. Like now.
She'd gotten stuck in a tree. Twisted in the branches and confused how to get down. Luckily, Ivorycrown had stumbled upon her and walked her through it. Though, the warrior did it with a frown and rude words. Deerpaw had been close to the ground and could have easily have made it the rest of the way on her own, something that Ivorycrown realized and had left. But she'd fall off the last branch. Luckily for her, it was close-ish to the ground, so she'd only sprained her paw. Unluckily, she still had to make it back to camp and get it taken care off.
Somehow, she'd missed her mother during her walk through camp to the medicine cat den. A good thing really, since she was sure Berryfrost would ban her from leaving camp for the whole rest of the week. "Hey, anyone home!" Even with her sprained paw, the apprentice walked in the den with a smile.
It was hard to tell if it was better for worse, but someone was in the den. The scent of herbs contrasted deeply with the still strong scent of the apprentice den, which had yet to even slightly lessen from the apprentice's coat. Deerpaw likely would have scented the apprentice before she spotted the black silhouette of the lithe tom emerging from farther back in the den. He approached his former den-mate with an uncharacteristic sheepishness, his blue eyes typically bright with energy looked rather dull save for a hint of curiosity they betrayed.
"Yeah, there is." Mindlesspaw confirm rather needlessly. Meeting the other apprentice's gaze awkwardly, he could feel a knot twisting in his stomach. It wasn't sadness, or even a bitterness, but more akin to general unease that penetrated him, a pure indescribable anxiety that had cut into him every time he bothered to consider the many quick changes that had taken place that he'd been far from prepared for. Barely a few days ago he had been this she cat's newest den-mate, preparing to learn and do all the same things that this slightly older apprentice had already been training in. Now, he was sitting in a completely different den with a completely different path lying ahead of him. It didn't feel real, and he was still in shell shock.
"So, uh, what are you doing here Deerpaw?" Mindlesspaw asked, trying to keep his voice casual though it lacked any soul.
"Well, I fell out a tree." Her grin never faded even as she took a sit further in the den and held out her paw. Deerpaw, glanced around the den, she'd been in a here a few times but never for long. Mostly cus Firepaw was a grouch and didn't want to chitchat with her. "Kind of fell on it funny, and it hurts pretty bad. Don't think it's broke but I'm not sure."
The realization that Deerpaw had come for treatment came almost like a slap to his senses, snapping him for the first time in a while from his disassociate cloud as a small panic started to burrow and burn in him. As stupid as it might sound, Mindlesspaw hadn't for a moment considered the fact that the apprentice had come in for treatment. The concept of helping to heal a cat hadn't even crossed his mind yet, he'd barely come to terms with the reality of learning herbs.
"Well, that sounds like it had to hurt." Mindlesspaw sympathized, not sure what else to say, and certainly not what else to do. Unless naming what poppy seeds were used for was a cure for a potentially broke paw, he was fairly sure he wasn't the right cat to ask for help. He was five second from turning back into the Medicine cat den to call Firepaw to help, but as if fate itself just had decided to enact a sick, twisted vengeance, Mindlesspaw remembered the medicine cat has just recently left to collect herbs and would likely be out for a while.
Realizing he had just sat in awkward silence for a good couple seconds and not wanting to seem completely incompetent at his job (despite the fact that him being completely incompetent shouldn't have come as much of a shock, given his incredibly recent promotion), he rummaged through his memory to see if he could find something to say that actually sounded somewhat intelligent. Perhaps luckily, the apprentice has spent a while of his time in the medicine cat den when he was younger given his sometimes frail health, and he managed to call back to those times to find something he figured was a good question to start off with. "So, can you walk on it? Or is it so painful that you can't step on it?" Mindlesspaw inquired as he pressed closer to get a better look at her paw. He was able to recognize from eyesight alone her paw was swollen, but that alone didn't tell him much.
(Apologizing now, my replies might suck this week. Football started up and I've gotta work it and do homework and workout and do clinicials. BUT I'm trying to do at least an hour each night on Classic so bare with me.)
"Well, a little, but I made it back fine and with barely a limb. Don't tell mom! She'll throw a fit. She wasn't happy when I came back last week covered in burs. Even threatened to ban me from training! Who does that??" Deerpaw was more worried that her mother would find out that she'd injured herself. Really the apprentice needed to get her priorities straightened out. Looking down at her paw, she could feel it throbbing but the pain wasn't too bad. "Well, I don't think it's broken, but I'm not sure how you tell that so I came here." She had no idea how to care for any injuries. It was a blessing to the clan really that it wasn't her that'd been chosen as the medicine cat apprentice, leats they all die because she did her job wrong. Seeing the blank, lost look on his face, she ventured a helping, "I can just hang out here if that works. Just didn't want mom to find out. She can't ban me from leaving camp if she doesn't know."
