Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Before her there was Yellowmoon and before that there was Russetshadow. One was imprisoned by her own clan and the other was beaten to death by a patrol of WaterClan cats. So on one side if she didn't find herbs for her clan she could end up like Russet and if she did find the herb that grew near water she could meet a violent end. The things she did for some people. Mistyveil wasn't exactly the kind hearted giddy medicine cat that most clans were used to and if anything, it fit her clans nature. She was unapologetically honest, born with the kind of bones that could withstand hurricanes. Whatever happened so be it, they both followed StarClan and according to the warrior code they had to allow her to look for herbs unless their medicine cat wouldn't allow it. However what she was looking for was lemon balm, an incredibly common herb for this kind of terrain, but not at all for somewhere like WinterClan. The herb was capable of soothing anxiety, but had no actual healing properties except maybe to reduce pain of heart burn.
Mistyveil listened carefully to the sounds of WaterClan trying to listen for water near the border, but it didn't take long for her to settle by a creek and begin to examine the grounds for lemon balm.
There was one thing about Violetstar. She was always on the move, hardly resting. A very respected leader by her clan, and no doubt they were immensely loyal to her. The purple eyed leader just so happened to be out and about as well, but there was one thing about her. Despite her clan’s hardships through the past moon, she was strangely loyal to the warrior code that StarClan has written so many moons ago.
She would never hurt a medicine cat, unless found just cause to do so.
“I know your smell.” Came a voice behind the she-cat. Due to it being her own territory, it only made sense that she knew the best way to keep as quiet as possible in the wet marsh grounds of the lands. “You’re WinterClan. A medicine cat? You reek of herbs like Goldrush often does.” Her brows raised lightly as she stood, observing the cat.
I always thought it was a nice scent... Mistyveil thought as she lifted up her paw to give it a quick sniff. Same scent as always, rosemary and catmint.
She furrowed her brows, maybe WaterClan cats just didn't like the light scent of pine and lavender. Her blue and turquoise gaze looked back towards Violetstar as she dipped her head to the leader, "Yes I am WinterClan's medicine cat, there are more prey than herbs there so I am often forced to seek for herbs elsewhere. Common herbs and remedies like poppyseeds and cobwebs are much rarer for us. It's why I'm looking for some lemon balm, something to ease cats anxieties. I hear it often grows by water," She mentioned in case Violetstar knew of any.
From what Mistyveil could gather it should be common in these types of lands so it was possible that any WaterClan cat would know what she was talking about just as a DayClan cat would know what a buttercup looked like.
Violetstar gave a nod to Mistyveil. Despite the fact they were in two totally different clans, she did not show hostility. Perhaps because she was one known to highly honor the codes. One of which was to let medicine cats gather where they wished and needed to go.
“I can help you find it, I believe.” She mewed, her purple eyes never leaving the feline. “I think I know what you’re speaking of.”
Mistyveil dipped her head to Violetstar, finally. A cat who wasn't a mouse brain. She had no idea what kind of flea brains she had to deal with in her clan. Most WinterClan cats behaved like barbarians, acting first and thinking later. Often refusing to help or allow help because they were too strong for it. Violetstar was a noble cat who was trying to assist her, she hoped WinterClan hadn't bothered them in one of their raids, Understar and Leatherstar had lead a foolish era. She could only hope that when a new leader was made, they would be calm and as well composed as Violetstar.
"Thank-you Violetstar, my name is Mistyveil. I appreciate your calm nature, in SunClan I often don't know who I'll be greeted by, I hadn't been aware they abandoned the warrior code," Mistyveil explained.
She flashed a small smile. “I have never been near SunClan, and I do not know much of the others around us, other than gatherings. Which I have not been to a lot until becoming leader of WaterClan, so their natures are unknown to me. I assure you, if you ever need something of us, you’re welcome to come. None of my cats will harm you, as well with any other medicine cats.”
Mistyveil blushed at Violetstar's smile, it was pretty, no one in WinterClan smiled much. Stone faced and emotionless was the way to go there. As she walked beside Violetstar she realized it was rude to remain expressionless and offered smile as shy as the moon in day, faint and uncertain. Truthfully, she found most clan cats to be far more tolerable than her own and found that when she did return back home that she reflected on these moments the most.
"Oh, congratulations on your leadership Violetstar. I know you've been leader for a while, but no one ever did seem to congratulate you and that just doesn't seem fair," Mistyveil said, hoping she wasn't inappropriate, but she was certain that if she became leader she would want everyone chanting her name at least once in congratulations.
To a cat from the outside, perhaps it was something to celebrate and cheer for. It was usually a day that the clan was lost to their previous leader, but welcoming to a new one. Not WaterClan. Not this time. They went through so much, were without a leader for moons.
Violetstar and Chimerahunt had once said it was a simple and cruel joke from StarClan to make her the leader. Forcing her to live nine entire lives without her mate and her kit.
“Thank you.” She dipped her head just slightly, her steps never faltering. The cats from the outside didn’t know the true pain that her clan had endured for so long. Yet, she didn’t really wish them to know, either. “WaterClan is growing strong again, I assure you.”
Mistyveil gave her a look of concern at Violetstar's mention of WaterClan rebuilding. Of course, WaterClan would get back up, why wouldn't they? Had... A clan been dominated by another clan or crushed by a storm that she just wasn't remembering? She had quite literally been forced to live under a rock, for all she knew maybe a clan did get wiped out. Or then again, maybe WinterClan just made her numb to tragedy and danger. Every year WinterClan had a civil war, then they fought with StarClan or some kind of religion, then they would go on a rampage taking over other clans only to get thrown onto their butts when some clan finally stood up for themselves and they'd have their tails bitterly pulled under their legs and grumble about their defeat. Not to mention the avalanches, blizzards, lack of food all year cause every moon was leafbare. Clans had it harder in other ways, but WinterClan's literal nature and utter stubbornness to live in a barren wasteland made her feel that every clan had a great shot at survival compared to them.
"Of course you will. You're WaterClan, you survived when other clans were completely annihilated. Nothing can defeat you," Mistyveil said with a kind of enviable certainty that only someone who could see the future could possess.
