The deputy's face held no hint of expression as she waited for her new apprentice, Crimsonpaw. She felt honored to get to train up another young cat, but she hoped this one wouldn't be a weakling. It was crucial that a young cat learn the proper battle and hunting techniques from their mentor, but also the warrior code and good, strong morals. This young one had a lot in store for him, for certain. Her eyes shifted to the rising sun, impatience growing under her paws. It wasn't that he was late; she was just ready to get started with their training.

Crimsonpaw awoke with a start. Was he late? He hoped not. He dashed out of his den and out into the camp. The sun was just beginning to rise. She said to meet her at sun up, he remembered with relief flooding through his body. And there she was waiting for him. He quickly ran up to his new mentor eager to start his day of training. "Good morning," he meowed.

Tuskblood's irritation eased as she witnessed the figure of Crimsonpaw approaching. "Morning." She greeted, giving him a nod of respect and greeting as he neared. She was a firm believer that you had to give respect to get it, especially with the younger cats. "I know you have a bit of experience under your claws from your last mentor. What do you remember about fighting?" She questioned, deciding to cut to the chase.

Crimsonpaw shuffled his front paws in the dirt due to some embarrassment on his part. A lot of the apprentices his own age were much farther along in their battle training than he was. "Actually we only had one battle training session," he admitted. "He spent more time with me on hunting training. We had several sessions and caught a lot of prey," he added, hoping it didn't sound as if he knew nothing at all.

She noticed his discomfort and took note of it, trying to relax her stance as she did so. "Good, so it sounds like we need to practice some battling and you will be in good shape." Tuskblood grunted with a nod of approval. She figured he had not spent much time working on battling techniques since the clan had been weak from the sickness. Her eyes shifted towards the entrance of the camp and she flicked her tail. "Let's not waste anymore time then."

"Okay!" Crimsonpaw said with renewed hope. He dashed past Tuskblood and out of the camp before he knew what he had done. "Oops, sorry," he mewed. "You lead the way. I guess I'm just a little anxious to really get started." He sincerely hoped his mentor would overlook his breach of etiquette.
