Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Wolfspider, brother to Blackwidow, son of Tarantulastar and Spottedfox, new mentor of Finchpaw. Eternalstar wondered if he and his sister would bond of their new apprentices. It would be cute if they did join training sessions but she would not be the one to suggest it. Her mission was to observe, not help them do training. "Wolfspider, do you mind if I join you for your training session with Finchpaw? I want to make sure all the mentors and apprentices are meshing well together." She smiled, pleasant, her intentions seemingly mundane. Though it was hard to tell with Eternalstar if she was telling the truth of not.
Wolfspider glanced at Eternalstar, not responding for several moments while he processed what she said, he still wasn't sure how he felt about her or some of the things she was doing but he'd been smart enough to keep his mouth shut, the last thing he needed to do was single himself out again, as if his parentage didn't do a good enough job of that already. He had no desire to make yet another enemy. "Who am I to tell you no?" He responded with a small smile, slightly unsure of how to respond. He'd never outright tell his leader no but suddenly he was slightly nervous. Finchpaw was his first apprentice and of course Eternalstar would decide to join him on his first day with his first apprentice, just his luck. He looked over his shoulder, scanning the camp for any signs of the brown she-cat. "Finchpaw?" he called out to her when he couldn't find her.
Finchpaw rushed out of the apprentice's den, bedding clung from her messy fur. "I'm so sorry I'm late! Please forgive me!" She bowed her head to her leader and mentor and looked up at Wolfspider with pleading sorrowful eyes.
"You're not late." Wolfspider responded, offering an encouraging smile, attempting to hide his awkwardness at being given his first apprentice and not entirely knowing what to do. "We'll start off with learning some hunting techniques today." he announced, rising to his paws and padding towards the camp entrance.
Eternalstar stood and followed after them, watching Finchpaw curiously. The apprentice was oddly chipper, seemed like a pushover. Hopefully Wolfspider could harden her spine a little bit. Though they wouldn't be doing that with hunting techniques. Still, she supposed it could be worse, the warrior could have started with touring the territory. Which was something Eternalstar had done too much of recently, teaching it to the orphans.
"One day you will be able to navigate our territory with your eyes closed, but until then pay close attention to your surroundings and learn different markers throughout the territory while your trying to learn it, if you get lost memorizing those markers will help you find your way back." Wolfspider said to Finchpaw. It was something Tarantulastar told him and it was one of the few things that stuck with him, of all the things his father had taught him.
Finchpaw nodded, "yes, Wolfspider." Over and over she remembered what her mentor had told her so that it would forever be engraved in her memory, at the same time making sure she was memorizing the scent of Springclan. Although, she couldn't really smell anything apart from the occasional whiff of prey or of another critter drifting on the breeze. She was used to Springclan scent. She thought that perhaps if she were to smell a different clans markers, she would be able to pinpoint which one was which and log that away in her memory.
Once they arrived at the training hollow Wolfspider sat down and curled his tail over his paws. "Show me your best hunter's crouch." he said to Finchpaw.
Eternalstar slipped into the hollow behind them, having been briefly distracted but catching up easily. Her eyes examined Finchpaw before turning to watch Wolfspider. She thought of speaking up and asking if perhaps he shouldn't just send the apprentice to hunt and see how she did. But she knew that was cruel and while Wolfspider, might be wise to her games Finchpaw was still no doubt ignorant.
Finchpaw crouched down, stalking silently. Even though she was very quite and almost everything about her crouch was perfect except for her tail twitching in both excitement and nervousness at Eternalstar's presence, her attention was far from being focused. She kept eyeing the leader as if she were expecting Eternalstar to launch at her.
Wolfspider watched silently for a few moments before offering any critiques. "Keep your tail still, if it moves any twigs or leaves you will alert the prey to your presence and keep your eyes focused solely on your prey, don't get distracted." he said. "But you're well balanced which is half the battle." he added, offering some praise to the young apprentice as well.
She nodded, fixing her tail to where it barely touched the ground and still. Then she focused her attention on a rock just a little farther away from her and stalked toward it.
Eternalstar watched the apprentice, a little surprised she was as skilled as she was. Jaded as the leader was she often associated happy cats with unskilled cats. "Very good." She spoke softly, almost under her breath at the praise came out. She wasn't one to often praise others but she knew young cats ate that sort of thing up, and she wanted both Wolfspider and Finchpaw to not forget her presence here watching them.
Wolfspider relaxed slightly when he realized that he'd been given a naturally talented first apprentice which would make his job much easier in the long run and make him look like a decent mentor in front of Eternalstar. He glanced in her direction for a few seconds when she praised Finchpaw, suddenly more excited than nervous about his new journey as a mentor.
Finchpaw stood up and looked over at Eternalstar, pride glowing in her eyes. "Thank you" she purred, dipping her head respectfully to her leader. Then she looked at Wolfspider for another assignment.
