Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Ryn often found herself at the border of the group, simply because there was a part of her that hated the monotony of her life. Even now, when everything was so chaotic and up in the air, the silver-bud she-cat still felt a dysphoria with her life. It was bland, lifeless. And now it was tense. There was no monarch and no order, and although she wasn't a cat who thrived on order in general, it still felt wrong. Everything about BrookClan felt wrong, and she hated the time she spent here. Yet, as much as she craved the bigger world out there, where would she go? She didn't particularly want to live her life alone, which meant that she felt trapped, chained by the Monarchy.
So, instead of changing anything about her life or her own unhappiness, Ryn found herself looking into oblivion more often than she didn't, watching the world beyond the walls, yet not moving any closer to the realm of possibilities to which that world held.
The political turmoil in his group did not interest him so much. He had grown used to the ebb and flow of life in the League; there was always another fight brewing on the horizon, another takeover, another sly play. Sometimes he would join in the politics play, but the leadership change was too messy an affair to busy himself with, so he took the time to roam alone outside of their borders. He was a former rogue, his senses still keen to where the borders lay, but he carried himself with an easy grace. He was aware of the borders, but he had felt the pride of the League, and he knew the temptation to cross and prove it to them all.
He had intended not to indulge that temptation, but a sweet scent on the other side of the BrookClan border enticed him, and he lazily stepped across to investigate. It was nothing but a patch of flowers; straightening up, Raijin’s sharp blue gaze fell on a she-cat headed along the border toward him, and he grinned. So much for stealth. The hunter rose to his paws and headed toward her with a languid nod of greeting, like he would any friendly passerby.
She hadn't expected to come across another feline in her trek to witness the outside world particularly with the idea that she had been intending to look out towards the rogue lands. She was surprised, then, when she found in her gaze the body of another. He was unfamiliar to her, which made the fact that he was on the wrong side of the border unnerving to her. Her ear twitched as she watched him nod, feeling the furs rise on her pelt. She drank the air to try to locate the tom's origin, and the furs rose even further upon realizing where he was from. The Primal Instinct scent was one that hadn't been in the BrookClan territory in a while, and Ryn, like all members of BrookClan, were taught to be extra cautious of the Primal Instinct felines, historically speaking. Now that Shiva no longer resided in BrookClan, all bets were off as to why he was here...
Ryn was not particularly a fighter, either. She was alone and coming across a Primal Instinct tom alone was probably not ideal for her. He could probably take her out without much effort. She didn't like violence much, finding herself a pacifist by nature. Her tail flicked slightly, before she moved to speak. "You lost?" she asked, trying to find her most... intimidating voice. There wasn't really much intimidating about her, though, so it was a desperate failure. "Or just trying to enjoy the scenery?"
"Just enjoying the scenery," he replied, with a casual, sweeping glance around them. He didn't look in the least concerned that she would make to attack him; there was no reason for him to be here, but if she was going to come after him, he expected she would have opened with that. Certainly, any of his new groupmates would attack first and question never. When he finally came to a halt, it was only a few mouse-lengths from her, and he took her in with a long look before his intense gaze returned to hers. Personal space mattered little to Raijin; if anything, he enjoyed getting closer to cats that they anticipated, it amused him to see how they could transform from glaring fiercely to merely fidgeting in discomfort or even stepping away.
He was wiry but not tall, a deep blue shadow except for his white front toes. He didn't look especially threatening either, lacking the characteristic scars of the League, the bulging muscle or dark hateful snarl. There was a fluid confidence to his movements instead, like he knew he was untouchable. But his grin - his wide, amused grin - was nothing if not openly playful. "Is that a problem? I've heard the clans are just so lovely to gaze upon, I couldn't resist crossing over for a quick look."
Ryn didn't really know how to respond to his enjoyment of the scenery. Although that was the reaction she kind of thought she was going to get, what was there to say after that? She shifted her weight slightly; maybe she should have been more the attack first think later kind of cat. She really wasn't, though. Fighting never appealed to her, nor was she the cat that would be the first to even have the ability to really effectively defend the group. However, she did react when he got that close to her, taking an instictual step back. This, once again, didn't make her look like the most threatening cat, but hey, she couldn't be perfect. However, she played right into his trap, though, and she knew it as soon as she looked him in the eyes. Oh, gods. What had she gotten herself into.
"I think we both know the answer to that," she meowed, dropping her act of intimidation. Clearly, he wasn't buying it, and she wasn't good at facades very long. "But, I don't think the clans are all that nice to look at, at least not this one." Whoops, that probably told him a little bit too much about her own mental state. Her whiskers flicked. "But, this is awfully far from home for you to take a quick whiff of some flowers you probably have back in Gore City." Okay, she was sounding a little less freaked out with each word she said, but she still did not look particularly comfortable, not yet. Maybe his grin was putting her a little bit at east, though. "What gives?"
“You’re right,” he conceded, with a slight arch of his brow as he studied her. Ryn’s disregard for her homeland, or at least her lack of blind pride, was curious. “This is far, and it’ll be quite the journey back home.” A predatory gleam lit his gaze as his grin shifted into smirk. “Why don’t I just stay here, then, instead of heading back? If you want to try causing trouble, I can just call up my friends and we can all settle in, it has been so long since we conquered a clan.”
He let the threat linger a moment, let her guess if he was bluffing, sat back with smug confidence; then he went on, brushing against her as he strolled past and idly examined the turf between his paws and the border ahead of them. “Of course, I would hate to waste time with this clan again if you’re right. Why take some place like this when there’s more beautiful land to explore? Maybe you ought to show me these richer lands,” he mused, slyly glancing back at her. “Gore City is about as attractive as you can imagine, I would so hate to miss out on a pretty sight.”
Ryn felt her chest puff a bit at the idea of being right. Of course she was right! Yet, the pride that she felt had to contain it. It wouldn't be... ideal to show too mch of that to a cat who she was sure could out-pride her. Was that not the purpose of Primal Instinct? To gather all the prideful damned into one spot? Her tail twitched a bit, before she opened her mouth to speak. "I assure you that out of all mistakes you've made, staying here would be your worst." There was no threat behind these words, and it was as if she truly meant what she said. "However, I'm quite sure you probably don't have any friends, so I'm probably not too worried about your conquering skills."
When his body passed hers, she felt her heart skip a beat, before beginning to race slightly. "I'm always right," she meowed, although this time, her voice cracked a bit to show the nerves that she was feeling. "Always." She turned her ehad to keep her eyes on him; even if she couldn't fight him off, she couldn't just let him trample through their territory without anyone. "The world's a great big place, I"m sure that you can find somewhere that's biggest highlight is a brook that convinces cats to kill themselves, although with a residence in Gore City, that might be just up your alley." Her tail twitched slightly. "I hear SpringClan is beautiful this time of year; why not go there?"
Raijin tossed back his head with a warm laugh. She may not want to use her claws, but she did have some spirit. He mused if that meant she was coming over the shock of the counter, and was keenly aware that he lacked intimidation — but he did not mind that either. His group’s reputation should speak to his skill, he did not need to stalk about with his lips curled like some of less-secure Leaguemates.
Well, maybe she was not quite over her shock yet, he corrected as he noted her voice crack. “SpringClan does sound enchanting,” he agreed, tipping his head her way with a mischievous look. “Ah, but where could it be? A simple hunter like me wouldn’t know where to even start looking,” he drawled. “I suppose you’ll have to take me there yourself, so I don’t get lost in your territory along the way.”
His casual gait had him circle and come back as he spoke, nearing her side again so he could chuckle and add softly into her ear, “And if you think any hunter of the League would resist a chance to conquer another clan, would ignore my call, you are not so smart as you look.”
