Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Sunbeam panted as she struggled to catch her breath, having sprinted straight from the border into the SpringClan camp without so much as a second's break. If anyone had seen her panicked appearance and coarse breathing, she didn't notice them; instead, she stared unblinkingly at the camp entrance, half expecting the familiar tom she'd seen just past the border - the whole reason she'd ran away - to be striding in as if nothing had happened.
Her eyes began to glaze over as she thought about the figure she'd seen, her breathing beginning to slow somewhat once she realised he most likely hadn't chased her back to camp. Still, she couldn't help but glance back every second or so, just to make sure...
"Are you okay?" Cardinalheart asked, slightly concerned, he could tell Sunbeam had been running, but he wasn't sure from what and the dark red tom waited for Sunbeam's response, slightly on edge.
Sunbeam straightened up, her eyes still not leaving the camp entrance. "...Maybe," she murmured, finally tearing her eyes away to give Cardinalheart a grateful glance. "Someone I knew was near the border, and...I overreacted, perhaps."
Cardinalheart nodded slowly, still on edge, ready for an attack. "Are you in danger? Do you think they'll cross the border?" he asked. "If I need to I'll head that way to make sure everything is alright." he offered.
Sunbeam swayed as she stood, her gaze flickering back to the camp entrance every few seconds. "Danger? ...No," she answered, exhaling deeply. "...Not when I'm here, at least." The reason I joined this Clan was for protection, after all. "But they might try it, though. Crossing the border, I mean."
Cardinalheart was silent for a few moments, fighting back the burning desire to ask Sunbeam who it was, but out of politeness, just shook his head to gather his thoughts and said nothing. "I'll go check it out, you can join me if you'd like?" he offered, even if this cat didn't cross their border, he wanted to know what they looked like so he could keep an eye out for them in the future just in case they tried anything. "I know you probably don't want to see them, but it could help me to know what they looked like if they decided to start causing trouble in the future."
"Of course," Sunbeam replied, without really thinking about it; she stood still for a few seconds, somewhat surprised at her own answer, but upon examining her feelings further, she found that most of the fear she'd been feeling just mere minutes ago was all but gone, replaced with only anger and the deire to protect her Clanmates. "...Yeah, of course I will. I don't mind if it's for the Clan."
Cardinalheart nodded and set off at a quick trot towards the border. He was hoping to catch this cat before they disappeared and warn them off before they decided to cause trouble.
Sunbeam followed along behind Cardinalheart, slowing as they began to approach the rogue border. She thought for a second that he'd left and let her be, but she soon caught sight of his distinctive ginger pelt a few more tail-lengths to the right of where she'd last seen him - and worryingly, a few tail-lengths closer. "There," she murmured, pointing to the figure up ahead with her tail. "He hasn't left...yet."
Cardinalheart's gaze caught sight of the ginger pelt and he nodded silently in acknowledgement to Sunbeam. He thought of just out right attacking the cat for a few seconds before shaking that thought away. "What are you doing here?" Cardinalheart demanded, his voice full of authority as he padded confidently up to the border to face the ginger cat.
The tom raised an eyebrow, eyes flickering toward Sunbeam before focusing on Cardinalheart. "I'm outside of your borders, am I not?" he asked, voice calm and level. "I'm doing nothing wrong just by sitting here and waiting."
Cardinalheart fixed the tom with a hard stare for several moments. "I don't like you, therefore, I have an issue with you hanging around our border, and what in StarClan's name are you waiting for?" he asked, narrowing his gaze. Cardinalheart was never the type to instantly dislike someone without a good reason but this cat for some reason, rubbed him the wrong way.
The tom flicked his tail impatiently. "I was waiting for a Clan cat to come to the border, so I could make a proper effort to speak to them," he said, in a fairly bland tone. "Yet Sunbeam here took one glance at me and ran. Do you just let anyone join your Clan?"
Sunbeam snarled at the tom's words, but her shoulders sagged. Technically, he hadn't been wrong...
Cardinalheart forced his fur to remain flat, how dare this rogue approach their border and then insult SpringClan warriors! For a few split seconds Cardinalheart contemplated just launching himself over the border and ripping his fur out, but he refrained. "Actually, no we don't. We certainly wouldn't accept a cat like you into our ranks, that's for sure." he stated, a hint of a growl in his voice. "You said you wanted to speak to a Clan cat, so spit out what you want to say."
Cardinalheart is turning out to be a much angrier cat than I had ever imagined him to be lol xD
The tom barked out a short, bitter laugh. "Well, after hearing you say that, I can cross out half my list already." He gave a short look to Sunbeam, and for a split second, there seemed to be a hint of sympathy in his eyes. It quickly disappeared, replaced with moons upon moons of festering anger. "The truth is, Sunbeam here has something of mine. Or rather, she has something of both of ours, and isn't sharing."
Sunbeam inhaled sharply before letting her eyes drift downwards, avoiding eye contact with either cat at any cost. So he really did come here for them after all...
( isn't it great when your characters run away on you? xD )
Cardinalheart fixed the tom with a hard stare for several seconds before taking a deep breath and turning to Sunbeam, showing none of the anger he'd shown towards the loner. "What is he talking about?" he asked her quietly, truthfully, he had a sinking feeling he already knew.
Sunbeam blinked hesitantly, giving the rogue a brief, nervous glance before turning to Cardinalheart. "My children..." she murmured, almost too quiet to be heard. "Blissrose and Tundrapaw. He's come here for them."
"Our children, Sunbeam," the tom corrected, giving Sunbeam a stern look. "...As their father, I have just as much right to see them as you do. However, you Clan cats keep strict borders - which I am prepared to admit is good practice, even if it inconveniences me - and as such, I decided to wait here in a civilised manner to see if anyone would approach me. And now we're here. Happy?"
Cardinalheart fixed his gaze back onto the rogue. "No, actually I'm not. The warrior code states that kits are raised in their mother's Clan without question as to who their father is. Blissrose and Tundrapaw are warriors of SpringClan as is their mother. You are not. Leave now."
The tom sneered. "Sunbeam, a Clan cat?" he scoffed, this time not even looking at her. "That lady's a rogue through and through - it beats me how anyone could say that your code applies to her." He shook his head, though he did appear to be getting ready to leave.
"Nevertheless, I respect that you Clan cats even have a code of honour in the first place, and I'm willing to abide by it. But - Blissrose is an adult, and...Tundrapaw, is it? He mustn't be far from one. There's nothing you can do to stop them from seeing me on their own, so I'll tell you one thing. I live near the old barn in rogue territory - I'll be living there all leafbare, and probably well into newleaf as well, but I'll be gone by the time greenleaf comes around. Tell them my location for the next six moons, and if they so choose, they can visit me themselves."
Sunbeam was silent, eyes trained on the ground. The tom was right - Blissrose thought her father was dead, and probably had the right to know that he was alive and well. Tundrapaw had never asked but his father, but she had to assume he was curious. She gave the barest hint of a nod, still not able to look at either her former mate nor Cardinalheart.
Cardinalheart dug his claws into the soil, in an attempt to stop himself from attacking the rogue. "Sunbeam is a loyal SpringClan warrior, she has adopted our ways and our customs. Her past means nothing." Cardinalheart said curtly before turning around and heading back into SpringClan territory. "And don't even think about crossing this border. If you do I'll make sure you lose your life." he said, stopping to turn and meet the rogue's eyes.
