Leatherstar reached the center ring of WinterClan's camp and discarded his vole on the fresh-kill pile just as the sun reached its peak. The chocolate brown Chieftain swung his head to take in the cats meandering around the circles of stones they called home. Seeing most other cats were about their own business he settled down with a long stretch and gave a content sigh.
Egretcry watched the Chief from afar, chewing thoughtfully on his lip. He was still getting used to the changes the Clan had made after the ancients had made themselves known - not that he didn't love them, because of course he would never disrespect those who had saved his Clan like that, but he'd always found it hard to adjust to changes, and these ones were no exception. And besides that, he still had no idea why he hadn't chosen to become a warrior or guard, when he'd been asked to. He didn't really have many friends in the rescue team, but for some reason, seeing some of his previous teammates working with the warriors had left him feeling like they'd left him behind.
Shaking his head, he decided to just approach Leatherstar and try and make small-talk, if nothing else. Plastering a hopefully-natural-looking smile on his face, he padded over and coughed softly to try get the Chief's attention. "W-working hard, or hardly w-workin'?" he stammered out, and immediately cringed. "...Sorry. I'll go now."

Leatherstar chuckled in amusement and slapped his tail on the empty spot next to him. "Don't be a stranger Egretcry." He blinked emerald green eyes and flicked his tail back to its rested position at his side. "Ive been so distracted lately ive forgotten to check in on my clan mates." He gave an apologetic crooked smile. "How are you?"
Egretcry had been prepared to turn away with his tail between his legs, but Leatherstar had been surprisingly accepting of his nervousness. Perhaps it was just the trauma of having Understar as a leader for so long that had made Egretcry so wary. "...Oh. Uhh..." he muttered, taking a seat as he furrowed his brow in thought. "I mean, pretty good," he nodded slowly, coming to the terrible realisation that he'd barely done anything noteworthy all day. "...It's just that changes are hard sometimes, you know...?"

He nodded in understanding. "It was difficult to know what the right decision was but I think the ancients only have the best in mind for us." he purred lightly. "We will honestly have to wait and see how it goes. They are much more powerful than we are."
"I mean, I should hope that they'd have only the best in mind for us..." Egretcry nodded, eyes glazing over as he began to stare off into the distance. "They did save us and all...So to go back on that now would just be unnecessarily cruel." He suddenly came back to himself, blinking hastily and glancing up at the sky. "Um, not that I'd think they'd do that. I trust and follow in whatever this Clan does and wherever they go, after all..."

Leatherstar stared at Egretcry before bursting out in laughter and tossing his head back. "You're a hoot Egretcry." he meowed through a chuckle tapping the tip of his tail on the ground beside him. "We are all a little wobbly when it comes to the whims of those greater than us.' He drew his mouth up into a soft smile. "To think that at any moment those above us could change our destiny with a single decision."
Egretcry felt himself relaxing as Leatherstar laughed, feeling able to give a little chuckle in response. Well, that had been a confidence booster, even if the Chief technically had been laughing at his anxiety. "It seems to stressful..." he muttered, chewing on his lip. "To be able to change the fate of so many cats with as little as a single whim...With great power comes great responsibility, and all that. Although I guess the ancients aren't the only ones around here with a great deal of power," he supposed. "I mean, you arethe Chief."

“And it’s much more stressful to think you could be the one harming someone unintentionally.” He meowed with a gentle nod. “I fear every day that a new enemy with show up and I’ll need to send some cats to battle... fear I won’t see them return... because I sent them to their death.” He sighed as the weight of responsibility lowered like a bundle of sticks onto his shoulders.
