Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Empirical-ete, an orphan, a victim, but no longer. Now the adopted daughter of Eternalstar, a proud member of Springclan. Yeah right, she chuffed internally, amused by the very thoughts. She ached under Eternalstar's watch, felt trapped, skin itching constantly under her fur. But she knew nothing else, feared if she went against Eternalstar the she-cat would someone send her old tormentors against her; would let them know where to find her and her brothers so they could start ripping them apart again. She wasn't sure she could sew them all together another time. Paws carried her towards the border almost absently, like she was unconsciously trying to get as far away from her troubles as possible.
Right. They kicked you out, but that's their loss. Let them see you here, hunting and serving your clan, and they'll know it was a mistake to kick you out. Mandarinfeather's pep talk felt weak even to himself. Maybe if he was holding prey or actively tracking some down it would be a different story, but as it was he was finding very little close nearby. Was it the strong border scents? Were they just as scared of his old clan as he was? Or is it just me?
The orange-and-white tom sighed, his shoulders slumping dejectedly. Maybe there was a reason Eternalstar had driven him out after all. He looked over his shoulder, wondering if he should just give up and go home empty-pawed. Again. He really was trying his best, but it was even harder to hunt here than it had been back home because the territory was different... but how long could he use that excuse? He glanced over at the SpringClan border, wistful, and nearly jumped out of his fur when he spotted another cat there.
A delicately arched neck curved as she peered over towards the warrior on their border, head cocking like a bird as she peered towards him. Humming she dipped her head in acknowledgement, "hello." The young cat purred softly in greeting. She almost recognized him she thought but couldn't be completely sure. "Do I know you?" She wondered aloud as she peered at him, leaning forward if that would somehow help refresh her memory. Sniffing deeply she almost thought she caught the stale scent of Springclan from him but it could be her imagination, or their proximity to the border.
He hesitated, unsure if he should admit the truth or not. It was shameful to think of his exile from his home, but hadn't he come here to show off, just a bit? His lean chest puffed out and he nodded once, settling his expression into something he hoped resembled a smug pride. "You ought to. I was a SpringClan cat not too long ago," he told her. "Now I'm in FallClan. Name's Mandarinstep." He paused, glancing over his shoulder, as if he expected his angry clan to appear and scold him from speaking to her. They didn't.
Relaxing, he turned back and offered her a little smile. "I.... I wasn't that important back then."
"No one is important in Springclan these days unless they are Eternalstar herself, or one of the few she trusts." Empirical-ete hummed with some deep seated bitterness wrapped within her words. Thinking towards the leader who had promised salvation only to bring her to a new home to be used in new ways. Her worth judged by how much she could offer and punished in subtle ways when she couldn't offer the leader enough. "I'm Empirical." She added once she realized she had gotten caught up in her own thoughts and forgotten to return the introduction.
"I hope Fallclan is treating you better then." It was an extension of an olive branch, a sign that she held no resentment that he might fear she would hold being from his old clan.
His head tilted, picking up on the venom in her tone. Did she not like the leader either? That was a little surprising, but secretly he was glad to know someone in the clan was angry over how they had all been treated. His family had been strong contributing members to the clan before they were driven out because they were old and lame (and him, but that exile made more sense). It felt good to know everyone didn't just accept it and roll over.
"It is. They're all very kind here, and patient with me," he purred. He didn't know what he had done to deserve such a kind and welcoming home, but he was grateful for the support. "I hope I won't let them down."
"I'm sure you won't." She purred, knowing that due to his past the other young cat would most likely forever now be the sort to work himself to the bone and refuse to accept anything less than perfection. Or something as close to perfection as he could get. "Perhaps I should come join you one day, it seems much more relaxed than my current arrangement."
(want to do a timeskip to the day after springclans battle and he's waiting to meet her and she comes hurt having fled Cicero. And he had to 'rescue' her in a sense which is really just convincing her to stay in fall or at-least come and get treatment)
