Flickerpaw sighed sitting and looking out over camp. He'd had to get reassigned mentors so many times now... and he still hadn't finished his training. At this rate he'd never be a warrior.
He sighed and then got to his paws giving himself a shake. No. Thinking like that would get him nowhere he had to focus his attention elsewhere. Find something better to focus on.
Wildpaw sat back, looking over his nest with a satisfied nod. He'd had to expand it and add some more feathers to make it more comfortable now that he was bigger, but he was finally content with how it had turned out. Anything was better than the prison he'd spent his last few moons in, anyway - he just wanted something soft to relax in after each hard day of trying to catch up on his training left him sore and exhausted.
The fluffy white tom slipped from the den and glanced around, his gaze catching on Flickerpaw just as he stood up. "Headed anywhere I can tag along to?" he called over with a friendly smile. He was dying to get back out of camp. Training was exhausting, but if he wanted to be a warrior sometime soon, he couldn't stop and rest too long.
"Oh, uh. Sure, I wasn't thinking of heading out, but we could go check the MoonClan border. Maybe even go snoop around MoonClan. Since we technically rule them with DayClan and SunClan," Flickerpaw meowed words slow and uncertain, the little tom still not sure how to feel about the fact that three clans had seized control of MoonClan and had claimed it as their own.
His expression flickered with uncertainty. He had not heard that yet and it was a startling idea. He wasn’t convinced how he felt about it, but he would never turn down an adventure. His mother would scold him for thinking about it, even if it was allowed; but she wasn’t here anymore, was she?
His grin was back in a heartbeat as he quieted his thoughts. “That sounds like a great plan,” he agreed. “Have you been there yet?”
"No not yet, Burningstar doesn't send apprentices to MoonClan, she sends warriors and some of the Black Hand members actually," Flickerpaw said with a sigh. "Apparently she'd like to keep relations with MoonClan somewhat peaceful, though some aren't particularly kind to our colony." He muttered.
The Black Hand. Though it was in pursuit of that group he and the others had ventured to WinterClan in the first place, he couldn't say he felt inclined to join them now; even then, he had wanted the adventure and rebellion more than the position itself. Wildpaw preferred to fawn over others, not be responsible for their safety.
"Walking around their territory is an interesting way to keep them peaceful," he noted, "but I suppose if we're benevolent rules they might appreciate the aid."
(I have let this slide but no longer!) "I dunno if we're all super benevolent... Have you seen Frozenfire? She just radiates maliciousness." Flickerpaw muttered. "And it's mostly her scent heading over into MoonClan's territory from what I've heard." He sighed as they walked along. "But hopefully with Newleaf coming in we'll be leaving them alone. Since it was mostly to help DayClan cope with Leafbare."
Wildpaw nodded sympathetically as he listened. He wouldn’t be thrilled to have any cat trespass in NightClan land, but a bitter attitude would just make the slight that much worse. “We should thank them for the help, then. Even if it wasn’t their choice, it might help smooth things over a bit,” he suggested. The apprentice knew most cats would scoff at his hope of avoiding conflict, but he had never been much for fighting, and preferred to avoid it when he could. It was a good rush of adrenaline but not worth the cost of hurting others.
"Maybe we'll bring them some prey or something?" Flickerpaw said tail flicking. But that would be taking from his fellow NightClan members... "Or I dunno, it sounds like a good idea, but I don't know how much they've really suffered. Oh! We can use this opportunity to get a feeling for how they are! find out what the best way to thank them would be."
The white tom considered that, his head tipped to the side and blue eyes thoughtful. If they got permission from their leader, bringing over prey wouldn’t be a bad idea, though he didn’t want to give the other clan the wrong idea and imply they were in need of extra prey. That wouldn’t make things any easier. His eyes brightened as Flickerpaw went on and he nodded. “That’s a great plan,” he purred admiringly.
