Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Jetclaw | Clumps of dirt trailed through the camp in a direct path from the entrance to the medicine cat's den, where an apprentice was backing his way in. His jaws were wrapped around the base of the narrow trunk of a budding pine tree, buried in the roots that were shedding so much dirt around him, while the pine needles dragged on after him. The tree itself was very young, less than a foot tall, but that still meant it was almost as big as the young cat struggling to drag it into the den.
"Sofwpelw, I bwough you some plaws fo healwing," Pearpaw mumbled around it.
Softpelt was busy sorting through some herbs, the white she cat trying to get accustomed to the role of healer. She'd been a kittypet, a warrior, a teacher and now a healer. She was familiar with most herbs, had gone and gathered some to assist Fawnheart a few times, but now to serve as a medicine cat in her own right? It was terribly intimidating and a lot to recall.
She turned at the sound of Pearpaw's mew and blinked. "Uh... what you got there Pearpaw?" It looked like a budding tree.
“I bwough you a pwan— a pwanw— a pwaw—“ Carefully, the apprentice set it down, then turned to face her beaming. “I brought you a plant, Softpelt! For you to heal with! Do you like it? I wasn’t sure how much you needed so I brought back as much as I could,” he meowed proudly, looking over his shoulder at the tiny tree.
Softpelt considered the little pine tree, she didn't recall pine trees having any aspects useful for healing... as far as she knew... But one look at the hopeful and pleased expression on little Pearpaw's face, Softpelt's gaze softened pushing aside her confusion and uncertainty of how useful the plant was that he'd brought.
"Thank you Pearpaw! Though, uh next time, maybe don't take the whole tree." Softpelt said gently. "This tree was a little baby tree, it hasn't quite... uh reached the right size to produce what I need from it." Was Pine sap useful? It was certainly sticky, perhaps it had uses in that regards. "You did good, but next time please don't pull up the trees... at least not without asking me first."
Pearpaw beamed. Whoops! He brought it too early! Even though it registered that she was somewhat scolding him, her praise overwhelmed that, and he barely considered that he might be hurt or regretful or embarrassed. He was still a little ball of pale kit fluff with shining eyes and a quick mind that was incapable of grasping the complexities of most things. He didn't stop to dwell on most of his thoughts and failed to understand most depressing or sad things.
"Okay, Softpelt! I'll ask you then bring back the bigger trees!! I might need help, though, they're bigger than I am." He considered that, then grinned goofily. "Maybe Dewsun will help me!" His mentor was great, he would know the right trees to get!
"Uhh,,, you won't need to bring bigger trees," Softpelt said with a light mrrow of amusement. "I only need parts of plants, here..." She went over to the herb store and pulled out a dock leaf. She showed it to him setting it down on the ground, "This is a dock leaf, I only need the leaves from the plant they grow from. But I wouldn't have these leaves if we pulled up the budding plant like that one," She said gesturing to the small pine tree. "But you did your best and I appreciate it. Perhaps you'd like to help me gather some more? I can point out the parts of the plants you can grab for me if I ask you next time." She offered.
“Oh. That must make it much easier to carry! That’s so clever,” he told the medicine cat cheerfully. He gave her a certain, strict nod, like a soldier receiving his orders. “Yeah! Let’s go find herbs and then I’ll remember which ones to bring back. Maybe. I won’t bring the whole tree next time,” he promised with a giggle. Probably.
Softpelt let out a purr. "you're just trying to be helpful, and I appreciate it." She told him, gently guiding him out with her tail. "Now follow me, I'll show you some of the basic herbs and items I use daily. They're herbs that even you might need in some circumstances so it's good to have an awareness of what they look like." She said. beckoning for him to follow as she headed out of camp.
“Me, need herbs? But I’m not even a medicine cat! What if StarClan gets mad?” He marveled at the idea while he chased after her, trotting on her heels with his dark sand tail swaying behind him. He was a warrior, not a healer! It would be cool to learn how to do both, but if he was going to be the Best Warrior Ever After Pearsun, he couldn’t afford to split his time between both jobs.
