The rising suns light cut through the thick forest to light the shadows that should have hidden the devil currently walking earth. His green and blue eyes cut to the silent general beside him, sharks grin stretching across his features. "Send the message along to my lovely daughter. Let her know I have sent a present her way." Like a marionette who's strings had been cut the stone guard burst into motion, hurrying away to find an old familiar face.
White toes painted red the small boogeyman slipped away, leaving behind the nightmares that would haunt those connected for years to come.
It was the smell that hit them first, the coppery tang of blood coating the roofs of their mouths and bringing forth gags. The clinging scent of death crawling across their guardians scent and suffocating it. As they drew closer red drew their eye, so much red where there should have been greens and browns. The earth was drowning in it. What would haunt them for moons though, the sight that would flash behind closed eyes was the massacre that laid in-front of them.
There once peaceful den now a picture of destruction. Her father was laid slightly outside, having striven to be his mates protector until the very end. His body bore the signs of being played with, tormented in his own inferiority. Cuts that weren't lethal, broken bones; it had not been a clean kill or a peaceful death. His beautiful mate was further back in the den, blood from her cut neck still draining out into the packed dirt and moss nests. Glassy eyes staring in forever trapped horror towards something unseen.
Faunus stood on the edge of it all, staring in blank shock, reeling back two steps as his wide green eyes stared at the dead bodies of those who had saved him. Taken him in when he had been left for dead and nursed him back to health. Raised him alongside their own daughter and treated him just as well. Now dead, stolen from the world in a gruesome manner. The sound of a cracking twig had him jerking to the side, into his companion as wide eyes looked around widely.
Stricken by the thought that maybe the killers were still around. "We have to go." He blurted in panic.
1 i apologize for not replying; i had lost the message 2 was she supposed to have a particular name i cannot remember
There was something about moments like this that almost made life feel like it was going in slow motion. It was a tangible slowness, one that could only be crafted by true horror. These moments were sinking moments, moments where it seemed as if the world was going to collapse; perhaps it was because the world did collapse. All at once, the life that she knew came down around her. She felt the devistation creep into her body, the kind of devistation that only could be prompted by death. Her heart sank to her paws and then sank further, collapsing and shattering when it hit the earth.
There was a moment that she was frozen in her footsteps, before all of the energy that had ever been in her body sent her flying towards her parents. Wet tears began to fill her eyes. The streams they made down her face were not pleasant, rather signs of an impending breakdown. She found herself at the foot of her father, her paws becoming bloody by the undried gore. "Daddy, daddy wake up," came the desperate meows of the pretty creature as she shook the corpse. There was a part of her that knew such shaking meant nothing; it would do nothing. It would not change the fact that her father was dead, her mother too. Yet, she still couldn't stop herself from shaking. "Daddy it's time to wake up," she pleaded again, her voice breaking as it exited her lips.
Faunus might have well been dead too; she paid him no mind. She didn't hear his panicked voice; she was too focused on trying to find a pulse. Trying to shake herself awake. She had to be dreaming, right? This couldn't be real! Yet, there was a sinking feeling in her stomach that told her it was, that everything she had once known was now gone.
I had forgotten all about this so no worries. And no set name for her.
The toms heart broke for her, but now was not a time for kindness, as much as it would pain him to have to be cruel in such a moment for her. "We have to go." He reiterated, hurried steps following her and reaching out to clamp his jaws on her scruff. Trying to pull her away from her parents corpses, trying to ignore the sticky feeling of blood as it sank between his toes and got into his fur. If he ignored it he could hold off the inevitable break down for a bit.
He needed to be strong for her, for them, for her parents. They would not have wanted to die and have their daughter join them soon after. So he needed to bring them away from there, and away from whatever monster had killed the two older cats. Hearing another step his eyes whipped around and he gave a harsher tug to the other, yanking her roughly away just as his eyes met a mismatched pair within the undergrowth.
Blindly shoving his shoulder into her he barked out a sharp command, "run, run now!" He had no idea who it was watching them. It could just be a curious loner for all he knew not involved at all. But the eyes spoke of malice and nightmares. They held too much glee as hey met his own and Faunus just knew, they didn't want to let the owner of the eyes come out and meet them.
Auberine felt her body being pulled away from her parents. She didn't want to move, though. She wanted to curl up between the corpses. The earth could reclaim her body as it reclaimed everything else. Yet, when he pulled her away, she found her body reacting differently than her mind. Although the concious part of her brain begged her to stay, to please wake up her parents, there was another part of her that understood that that was suicide. One might call it survival instinct, but perhaps it would not have existed had he not pulled her away. Her paws began to move without her permission, faster and faster, until she was sprinting through the forest. Still, her eyes were wet, the giant water droplets marring her otherwise perfect buff furs. They pooled at her chin, before each dropped to the earth. With each teardrop, a part of her continued to fracture...
Still, the duo made it out of the general vicinity of the crime, far enough that the part of her that had propelled her forward no longer sensed urgency. Once they were far enough from the eyes that he had seen, her body collapsed into the dirt, her sides heaving from the run. Sobs wracked her body. It was a heartbreaking noise, the sobs that echoed through her chest. Auberine was so small, and the noises were so large, almost too large to possibly be able to come out of her mouth. Oh, god, why? She could barely breathe. They hadn't been gone that long... How could this happen?
Faunus could only watch her break, could only recall the pain of his own parents deaths. Compare his adoptive parents sudden and brutal ends to his birth parents slow and ugly ends. Was it better to have time to come to terms with it before they passed or did it hurt more. Would he rather have preferred his adoptive parents wasted away in front of him as his birth parents had. No, no he didn't think so. But he also didn't think he liked this end either. Felt it cruel they were dead, it seemed surreal, not yet something his brain could accept. Their sudden death would change everything in their lives. What were he and Auberine meant to do now? Where would they go? Would they fend for themselves, or more apt would Faunus have to fend for them until she pulled herself together.
The words of comfort he scrambled to find where no where to be seen. Unattainable as he himself still felt numb, no tears to cry like her. Would they come later or never at all? Would she resent him for his lack of tears and outward pain? Should he try and put his complex feelings on the outside so she would know he was just as affected? But could he be truly as affected as she herself was when her parents weren't his by blood, but instead through adoption.
Heavy silence settled across them, broken only by her distraught wails and mutterings. Faunus a statue as he tried to sort out his thoughts and feelings, as he fretted about what they would do next, as he worried about why they were killed and if he and Auberine would get involved.
