She was supposed to relax. Scales had a long life so far, it was amazing she had made it through what she had. The feline was respected, had earned the right to become a veteran and relax. It was hard though, feeling useless. At least, her beloved had made it this long with her. Her and Leo had only had one litter, but those little ones, not so little anymore, had been enough of a pawful for the two. Her blue green eyes had become a little more on the dull side with age. A soft sigh expelled her lips, but the feline was quiet, listening to the soft snores of her mate, despite it being so late in the day.
"How are you feeling today?" Despite how busy Mars tended to be now that he was the commander, he still tried to make time to visit and speak with his grandparents every now and then just as he had his father when his mind had begun to fail him. Family had always been important to the large tom after all and now that both of his parents were gone, it seemed that much more important to visit Scales and Leo while they were still with him.
Her eyes turned to Mars. Ah, her grandson was a commander, how amazing was that? He looked so much like Slawn. Love shone brightly in her eyes as she gazed at him, a small purr pulling from her lips. “My bones are sore, but my heart is full.” She purred, and couldn’t help but give a soft laugh at Leo. “Mars has come to see us.” She told him.
"I am glad to hear that." He looked over at Leo and chuckled lightly. "I hope I didn't startle you. I just had a bit of spare time so I thought I would come to visit." Honestly, visiting this place made him think of his father. He had always been so close to Slawn. He had always been trying to do his best so that his father would be proud of him. His mind had not been his own at the end of his life, but he knew now that he was happy with Mars's mother once again. Things hadn't been easy since then, but he still tried to do his best.
Scales smiled. “I miss him too.” It wasn’t hard to tell where his mind was. Slawn had been here for a while, and she knew that Mars had visited his father here often. “I imagine he visited you once, yes?” Scales didn’t wait for an answer, seeming as if it were a rhetorical question. “He’s proud of you, as am I, dear.”

LEO The black-pelted tomcat picked himself up and stretched. "This old dog needs a walk," his heterochromic eyes twinkled at his grandson, "Or are you too busy with work?"
"Father is happy now. He is with mother again. The two of them were inseparable when I was a tyke. Even though mother was sickly, he was always there." He looked over at Leo when he said he needed a walk. "I'm not too busy." Even if he was, it could wait. His grandparents were getting old after all so it was important that he spend time with them while he could. Besides that, he had yet to share the news with them that Momi was now expecting his tykes. It would be his second litter with his first having been raised with the help of his sister since their mother had practically abandoned them. "Is there anywhere you would like to go?" He then glanced back at Scales. "And will you be coming with us?"
It was a question to ponder for a moment. Though, she really didn’t need to. She gave a small smile as she pushed herself to her paws. “Mm..” she murmured softly feeling the way her muscles ached. She was not as young as she once was... “yes of course. Give me a chance to stretch my legs..”
Scales brushed her tail against his side. “Come on now, Leo. We go out there more often than that.” Her mate, such an over exaggerater. However, she was smiling. Her retired life was full of love and happiness, and she couldn’t ask for more.
"Lets go then." Mars of course set a slower pace than he normally would have for the older cats. He honestly didn't go above ground all that often anymore. There was always something to do in the tunnels and there was usually someone chasing him down to speak with him or ask him something. Honestly, he thought it would be nice for him to be able to get above ground for a little while.
Mars nodded and turned to head away from Post Delta. He had heard that it was getting warm outside so he was hoping for a nice sunny day that the three of them could enjoy. "Did you know that Venus is expecting tykes of her own now? She says she's almost certain it's going to be a large litter." While he wasn't sure if he approved of her choice of mate, he would not judge her as long as she was happy. Besides that, more tykes were always good news as it promised a strong future for the Regime.
“Ah, I remember when Slawn was just a small tyke.” Scales mused her memories aloud, her eyes squinting as she remembered. He had been so full of life. A sigh slipped her lips. “We were once so young...”
(Fun fact, Mars looks identical to Slawn. He's just a lot bigger than Slawn was. Apparently I unknowingly used the same picture for him that gidgetjoy used for Slawn cx)
"You may be older now, but that is not a bad thing." Things sure had changed though. He had thought that he would have his father here with him when he became commander, but that had unfortunately not been the case. He missed him everyday honestly, but he had to keep moving forward because he knew the Regime needed him. "Perhaps we can go and visit Venus when we get back from our walk. She would probably enjoy that actually." She had been a bit down lately so he figured that seeing family might be just what she needed to cheer up and it would be good for his grandparents as well he suspected.

Leo cast a long face at the ground. Parents weren't supposed to out-live their kids. He wondered for a moment, as they walked to the surface, if there should have been anything he could've done. The mention of Venus brought him back. Her tykes would bring him new joy, and he told himself to look forward to it.
Scales pressed her side against Leo’s. Her blue-green eyes shifted across his features. Mars may have looked just like Slawn, but Scales had a look alike too. His aunt, Roon. Scales nuzzled against her mate before giving a small nod. “I think we should. We probably don’t have very many moons left...”
