POST DELTA CODENAME: THE GARDEN
LAKOTA OF RENEGADE REGIME
former Mercenary, recently promoted to Guider
The skylight was both a blessing and a curse for The Regiment. It is how plants in the garden flourish, but it is also how the tunnels become flooded. It would be perhaps two more leaf-bare seasons before Renegade Regime could finish their toiling in the dirt. With her paws on the muddy ground, Lakota's blue eyes looked up to check the sky. The rain had ceased for now. A gloomy fog blocked the rising sun and the mist clung to her pelt uncomfortably.
Life is never comfortable for a feral cat. Most starve, and winter is coming. Lakota knew nothing about the life of a kittypet. This animal has never even seen a human. They exist in stories told by Veterans, and out here in the cold, they seem terrifying. "Giants," they say. "With only two legs!" Her haven in the tunnels made her feel safe. It was the darkness that welcomed her home. Pools of water lay in every direction, and any attempt at organizing at this point was futile. Gone were the days of Egyptian Cats who had not a single worry in the world.
So she sat, dropping her eyes to her post-mates. Water dripped from the cave ceiling, resounding with each drop. "We must prepare for Greencough." She is direct with her words, as if to strike the enemy first. She looks to her team, searching for the same sense of urgency in their eyes. "Winter is coming."
MISSION: Join Lakota in her search for medicinal plants. Without them, many in the Regiment will die this winter. It is our duty as guiders to prepare ourselves for the worst and we cannot do it without you. So wolf down your breakfast and be on the lookout for these following plants! We might need to venture into the unknown to find them... Risks are necessary to protect those we love. May the shadows stick to you.
Catmint
Chickweed
Tansy
A leafy and delicious-smelling plant. Has gray-green leaves, stem is hairy, and has purple flowers. Is easily killed by frost. Looks like nettles, but doesn't sting.Best remedy for green-cough. Can also be used for white-cough. Can be considered dangerous in extremely high dosages. Extremely rare. Can be found in two-leg gardens.
Tall-stemmed plant with fat, almond-shaped leaves. Chickweed grows in a unique, intertwined manner, and it has small white flowers that have a slight split at the tip of each petal. It typically blooms in early to mid spring.Cures green-cough, though it is not as effective as Catmint.
The tansy plant has round, yellow leaves, and has a very sweet and strong scent, making it good for disguising a cat's scent. Cures coughs. Can be used to cure wounds and poisons. Prevents one from getting green-cough. Soothes throats. Can be extremely dangerous to pregnant cats.
Mercenary Gardenia In the far back of the crowd of Guiders, hidden within one of the connecting tunnels of the Garden, a scarred bombshell blonde she-cat listened to Lakota's warning with silent interest. As one of the youngest, newly promoted soldiers of the Regime, Winter only existed as a vague memory in the far edges of her mind, back when she was safe and warm in the comfort of Post Kilo. Nevertheless, if it was spoken of with such fear by all of the Regime's healers, then surely it must be a hardship all feral cats must suffer through. She dug her claws deep into the still-damp soil, gritting her teeth in determination; her siblings were still young, she couldn't allow them to fall victim to such a horrible danger.
"I'll accompany you, Lakota." Her voice echoed across the quiet cavern, and several cats turned to stare at her, surprised by the Mercenary's intrusion. "It isn't yet Leaf-Fall, so many predators are still roaming the surface freely. If something happens, you need me there to help protect you and your precious herbs."
