Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Midnightcomet was terrified of what he has planned. For moons now, his kits had been growing, but so had his feelings for another in the nursery. Sometimes he wondered if it was to soon. He'd just lost the love of his life when she brought their kits into the world, but on the other hand he knew she'd want him to be happy and for him to move on and find love again. It was what he'd want for her, so he hoped it was the same for Paintedturtle. Only problem was if Smallfire felt the same way. The queen had seen him at his lowest, helped him through raising his kits, and brought him back to even ground. Question was, was he willing to stay on the even ground or take a jump into the unknown and hope she's return his feelings.
The question circled through his mind, pulling up every possible outcome, while he waited for the she-cat to show up. Midnightcomet had asked her to met him at dusk at the waterfall, hoping to give the air some energy, romantic kind of course. If all went well, he's have a mate in the she-cat that had caught his eyes and entrapped his heart. Otherwise, he's lose her for sure, or at least he thought so.
Smallfire didn't really know what she was expecting out of this interaction. After all, it was still strange for her to think that a cat even wanted anything to do with her at all. Perhaps this was all new to her, the idea that maybe, just maybe, she wasn't alone in the universe. The idea still made her heart skip a beat, maybe two beats. She had always been alone in the universe, a creature that no one ever wanted much to do with. She stood for those who couldn't stand for themselves, and often times, that seemed to get her into trouble. People avoided her for this like she was the plague. No one wanted different.
Yet, he had still came to her, he had gotten close to her. He had understood the risks of such a relationship, and perhaps it was because he, too, seemed alone. Perhaps it was the lonliness of two hearts that made them so compatable for each other. However, Smallfire had worked to convince herself that he saw nothing romantic in her, that their relationship was strictly platonic. This made the soft burn in her chest, the twinkling in her eyes when he spoke to her, the smile on her lips at his thought, it all made it easier for her to think it was one sided. After all, no one would ever love her. Her father had made that clear when he excommunicated her from the family. No one will ever love you because you choose to live a life of rejects and orphans.
Still, knowing that he wanted to meet her, Smallfire had taken as many precautions as she could. Her furs, mostly black with some white, were groomed perfectly. Her eyes lacked the normal tiredness they used to carry. She had asked someone else to babysit the kittens so that she would have time to get ready for this. Was this niave of her? Probably, but she would take no chance.
She approached him with a smile. "It's beautiful here, Midnightcomet," she purred, although she found it hard to look away from him to appreciate the scenery.
Where she was preen and proper, cleaned and combed, Midnightcomet was a mess. He'd been pacing before she'd appeared, anxiety rippling through him, heart pounding like the waves of the waterfall. He was a mess, both in appearance and mentally. And she probably knew it when he nearly jumped out of his skin when she spoke. The tom hadn't bene paying attention to his surroundings, to worried about the what if's.
"Y-yes!" His fur felt flushed, though it wouldn't show through his black pelt. Midnightcomet wanted to say more, but the words were stuck in his throat. The tom may look a mess, but she was stunning as the sun that rose in the morning. Not a hair out of place, and taking his breath away. How could he think he was worthy of her? Her beauty out shown his plain appearance, her kindness shown through when he could only wonder what to do, and the way she cared for those who cared nothing for him claimed his aw and heart. It wasn't something he'd seen in any cats before. Sure he'd found love once before and others had judged him for it being outside of the clan, but this was something else, with someone he didn't know if he deserved. She deserved the sun that rose and set, the stars that hung in constellations, the breeze that carried the most amazing of scents (like her own) and yet all he could give her was himself and his kits. A life with outcasts due to the kits parentage and his previous choice in mate.
She smiled at him with her gentle smile, the kind that seemed to understand the whole world. It really didn't; most of the time Smallfire didn't know what was going on, or at least, she didn't seem to. Perhaps this was an unfair assertion. Maybe she understood it all from her strange perch in the world. Chances were, though, she understood little outside of her bubble. Which meant she didn't really understand too many of his physical body language. She picked up on no cues that he was interested in her, despite the fact that she was interested in him.
"You look a little nervous," she meowed at the slight stutter. Her statement was true; he looked a little disheveled. "I hope nothing is wrong?" Concern flickered in her soft voice, her head tilted slightly. "Is there something that I can do to help?" She reached her tail over to brush his shoulder, making it clear that if he needed something for her, the small she-cat would do as much as she could to make him feel better. "Is it the kittens? Have they been giving you trouble?"

"Nervous? Try terrified" His eyes widened when he realized he'd said that aloud. Oh, he just couldn't get this right could he. The poor tom was like an apprentice asking another to take a walk with him. He'd already passed his awkward, never-felt-right-in-his-fur days, but tell that to his mouth. Midnightcomet scrambled for words to try and not cause her any more worry. "No! Yes! I mean, no, nothing wrong with the kits! They're perfect angels, at least when your around. I truly believe that they wish to drive me to the elder's den early. But no, no, ...I.." His fur was warm under his skin, and just knew she could feel in through her tail. She knew, she had too. The poor tom had it bad and his grandfather had even been giving him a hard time for it lately, and the elder was a mellow individual with most.
Concern again flashed her gaze as it widened slightly. Terrified? That wasn't good, no, that wasn't good at all. She shifted slightly, looking as if she was going to make a mad dash right to the nursery if that was what was needed of her. When he clarified it was not about the kits, she settled slightly, but only slightly. She let out a soft laugh at the idea of kits driving them to the elder's den, before she blinked. Something wasn't right.
"Is there something I can do to make you feel any better?" she meowed, her voice its normal soft lullaby. "Maybe you should sit?"
He paused only for a moment to take a seat, his nerves on edge, fur bristled, face flushed. Mightnightcomet took a deep breathe, steeled his nerves for the moment, and, "I like you." Oh, he felt like a child. Of course she knew that. Who wouldn't like her. "No,..I love you." Now or never, flight or fight. His body was filled with adrenaline, refusing to met her eyes least she not feel the same. Every muscle in his body said to run but he knew that wouldn't do them any good. He'd still see her in the nursery, it wasn't like he could avoid her, and he'd already said it too, so there was no taking it back.
There was a moment of silence as the she-cat stared at him. There was a bit of shock in her eyes. Out of all of the things that he could have said, this was not at all what the she-cat had expected. She felt her eyes begin to water slightly, a foolish gesture. He didn't want to see her cry, but those tears that welled in the corners were not tears of displeasure. They were happy tears. Although this was unexpected, she felt her heart papatations that she had experienced this entire night cease. Her smile deepened as the corners of her eyes crinkled with it, before she tilted her head.
"Really? This can't be right. You have to be kidding?" Despite the uncertain nature of her voice, the feline found herself pressed slightly against him. "I love you too."
"I don't kid about matters of the heart, my dear." It was sacred to him that he be true when speaking of feelings, something he'd learned form his grandfather and it had yet to fail him. The old tom's words were to "live like this was your last day, least you have regrets in your soul." Eclipse was a from a far away land, one that didn't have clans but a tribe that is no more, and it was a principle that the tom had been taught there and then taught to his daughter and then her grandchildren. Midnightcomet tried to hold true to those words, in order to honor his ancestors and yet he hoped that they would approve of his chosen mate, as he'd never had the privilege to met the cats. And it seemed they may have approved because by some grace, she'd returned his feelings.
"I love you and I'll tell it o the heavens above!" He practically screamed the words, his eyes wide with joy and a smile that encompassed his face present for all to see. Midnightcomet had felt joy similar to this before with Paintedturtle, but this be far surpassed what he'd felt then.
She let out a purr in response, her body moving closer to the tom. Their pelts brushed and she entwined her tail with his. This was a strange moment in the life of Smallfire. After all, so much had happened that made her assume this would never happen. She would never have her happy ending. The first of such things was when the medicine cat had told her that she would never bare kittens of her own. It had been a curse ; every cat knew that she was barren. The information had spread quickly, and it was the first time Smallfire had every thought she would never find a feline to love her. The second time she thought the same was the night where her father kicked her out, rejected her from her family, told her that no one ever wanted someone's leftovers, that if she wanted to be so badly with felines no one wanted, then fine, she should go be with them forever. The day he told her she had brought shame onto her family was the second day that she realized there may never be love for her.
Yet, here it was. By some gift of the gods, or StarClan, or whatever she was supposed to believe in, the tom who she cared about cared for her back. The feeling in her heart was euphoria, complete euphoria. It was the first time in a long time that she felt like she belonged.
"You don't have to scream it," she mewoed into the furs of his shoulder, "as long as you're sure, you can just whisper it and I will know your word is true."
"Always, today and every day you'll have me and then even past that." Oh, he was sweet on her, had been from day one but his heart had still been mourning then. But now, he saw clearly had for some time and chose to no longer let it hold him back. Midnightcomet would give her the stars he worshiped, the moon in any of it's phases and yet nothing could ever dream of being enough for the other heart in all it's glory.
"I've been thinking about telling you how I felt for a while," she meowed quietly, a smile twitching the corner of her lips. "I was just afraid, especially afraid it was too soon. I'm glad that you told me first." She said this with a laugh. She then pulled away. "You were the first that made me feel accepted and appreciated." Her voice wavered slightly as she tried to blink away the emotion in her eye. Smallfire, you shouldn't cry. This is not a time to cry.
"I'm glad, my dear." Midnightcomet couldn't keep the grin from his muzzle, eyes shiny with tears of happiness to match hers. The dark tom brushed his pelt closer to hers, giving her comfort for the tears he could see in her own eyes.
should we maybe time skip i'm really bad with writing romance scenes LOL. we could skip a bit when smallfire brings the next litter of orphans into the family without taking to midnightcomet first or something maybe?
Same! I was struggling hardcore in that last reply lol. I good with that idea. It'd be interesting to introduce them to his other kits as their new younger siblings, that they weren't expecting. I thinking most of his kits are getting promoted this AC but I'm not sure whoich or any besides mine made teh move
that would be an interesting dynamic ! i am unsure which ones made it over too, and there's still a bit of time. is it something we should wait a bit for to start, or just like message users with as they come back?
Smallfire let out a soft sigh. Chances were, Midnightcomet would not be too entirely impressed with that. After all, it was probably something that should have been decided as a couple, now that the two were mates. However, she couldn't help herself. This was what always got her in trouble, the fact that she could never help herself when it came to helping those who didn't have cats that loved them. This was her forth litter to be adopted, and really, she had decided that she would have adopted them one way or another.
"Midnightcomet," she called, her voice a little nervous. "I, uh... I think we should go for a walk. There's something that.... uh... I should probably tell you..."
(I'll probably send a message in a bit to see what all is going on, I'll include you in on it so your not out of teh loop of what tehy say. Most of his kits hadn't made it to the page to start with, only about three or four of them, so I'm not sure how many made the switch)
Midnightcomet was a little worried. Was something wrong? Someone hurt? Her tone made him nervous, worried for all of the kits that were now his as well. He had his own litter that he worried about sure, but they were mates now and they called all of each other's litter theirs; her kits were his and his were hers. Something he'd accepted when they'd become mates. Were one of them hurt? Was SHE hurt? His worry only grew as they walked, fear starting to take hold of his heart and cloud his mind.
"Look, don't get mad at me... I know I should have talked to you first..." Her voice was sheepish as the she-cat refused to make eye contact. "So... uh..." She shifted on her paws nervously. Clearly, she wasn't aware that he was starting to worry about not only her but their large brood. She'd never had anyone worry about her, at least not in recent time. "I think we are going to have to make the den bigger?" She finally got it out before stealing a peak at him. He would know what that meant, right? She herself couldn't have kittens, at least that was what she had been told. That meant that she had taken another group of them in.
Den bigger? Why? Sure teh kits were all growing but they had plenty of room. Right? Was she seperating some of them, who was in trouble now that they needed to be seperated into different sections of the den? "Who did it?" Midnightcomet was sure it had to be some of the kits getting into each others' fur, causing trouble and needing time away from the rest of the litters to cool off or to understand what they did wrong. The tom just sighed, going through the list of kits and trying to elimante the ones he knew wouldn't be the problem kit or two in question. Most likely one of teh younger ones, but his were teh youngest, or wait was it a different litter? He was losing track of who belonged to what litter and who was born when.
(I was thinking about when parents foregt their kids name it is like "zac-no Mary, wait no, you know who you are come here" moments)
(LOL honestly it would be pretty par for the course now that they have like 435 kids if they forgot all of them)
"Uh... well.. I did?" She didn't mean it to be a question. "Oh!" she mewed, realizing what he thought had happened. "Our children are little angels. Well, that might be taking it a little too far. They aren't causing any more trouble than they normally do, though." She smiled at the thought. The den was crawling with kittens at this point, and inevitably, three or four were always causing mischief, although who those three or four were often varied. That's what happened, though, when there were what, three litters in their den, now? "I may or may not have adopted another litter. But, there's only four of them and they were so sad looking when I found them and I may or may not have told them that I would always protect them but they were scared and hungry and I just, you know how I am I just can't say no to kittens that don't have homes someone's gotta love them I thought maybe we could and I know I should have talked to you but I just they were so precious." The words spewed out of her mouth very quickly and with no pause, no period, no time for her to stop to breathe until she was done with the confession.
