Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
[NPC's are allowed to participate in this thread. If you don't have a Mercenary Cadet, feel free to make up a name and jump in!]
"Training begins at noon tomorrow, on the surface right outside Post Alpha. I expect that none of you will be late."
Those were the instructions that Mercenary Superior Gardenia had given the cadets just the previous night, before dismissing them of their duties to get some well-deserved sleep. Hopefully they didn't waste it; they would be needing all the energy they could get for this training session. Being the chosen head of the Mercenaries, Gardenia thought it would be best if she arrived at the meeting spot quite a bit early, and had since spent the free time resting in the shade, attempting to ease her shaky nerves. This would be her first mass training session; messing up wasn't an option. The blonde she-cat sighed to herself, her golden eyes looking out into the quiet forest. At least it was a nice day for training...
Her ear twitched at the sound of kicked rocks behind her, and Gardenia stood, turning with a soft smile to greet the first Cadet to arrive.
Cadet Phobia bounded up on exuberant steps, overjoyed to take part in her first mass training. The curled tufts on top of her ears were perked forward and her long fur groomed to perfection. The young she-cat having spent the morning obsessively grooming, not wanting to show up too early. As she drew closer though she realized she was still the first to arrive, but that wasn't too bad. It gave her time to pester Gardenia on what their tasks for the day were. "Hello!" She chirped dipping her head once she was right in front of the Mercenary Superior.
Cadet Decimus was slow to follow cadet Phobia. This would be his first mass training since he had been promoted so he was a bit nervous. What if he messed up? If word got back to his mother that he had failed during his very first mass training session, she wouldn't be happy. She had always pushed him and his brothers to be better than the average cat. It had instilled a good work ethic in the young tom at least. Once he did reach his superior, he dipped his head. "Hello Superior Gardenia." He dipped his head as well. Would they be starting soon? He hoped so. Even if he was nervous, he'd rather start and get this over with.
Superior Gardenia felt a purr of amusement rumble in her throat as she watched Cadet Phobia exuberantly bounding towards her full of energy, and then spotting Cadet Decimus quite a bit behind, slinking over to the meeting spot with obvious nervousness. "Greetings Phobia," she answered in an even tone - she couldn't be too friendly, this was training after all - and curled her large fluffy tail around her paws as she patiently waited for the Commander's nephew to make his way to them as well. "And greetings to you as well, Decimus. You both are right on time; a good habit for soldiers of any vocation in the Regime. I'll be sure to pass on a good word to your mentors about that."
and your mother, she silently added as she glanced at the anxious young tom in front of her. Her gaze then drifted back up to the tunnel's entrance. It was difficult to say if any of the others would be showing up. Other members of the Regime had a tendency to borrow cadets for any sort of chores no matter what job the cadet might have planned. There was always the possibility that group training could just be these two. "Tell me, do either of you have any questions before we begin?"
Decimus's expression brightened at Gardenia's words. Perhaps this wouldn't be so bad after all. The young tom shook his head when she asked if there were any questions. He was really just curious to see what they were going to be doing.

*she's a scout, but for this thread, she's a merc, mk? kthankz
Cadet Tundra ran up in a hurry; she was always running this way or that. I was only when she was a few fox-lengths away that she slowed down. Panting, throbbing paws, pacing heart. Am I late?
Superior Gardenia smiled in understanding as she noticed the obvious fear and exhaustion on the newcomer's face; she must have really hustled to make it there. "You're right on time, Cadet," she meowed encouragingly, allowing the young she-cat a few moments to catch her breath. Cadet Tundra. She was a bit of an interesting case, from what she'd heard; having been seen spending a lot of time in Post Echo around the Scouts, probably second-guessing her choice of profession. This very training session would most likely be the deciding factor in whether Tundra would live the life of a Mercenary or of a Scout.
"Well," she continued, glancing at all three cadets. "It appears that this will be all of us for today. Cadet Tundra. Cadet Phobia. No questions from either of you, I assume?"
"What sort of training are we doing today? Is it a test?" Decimus was curious. What did they do in mass training? This was usually how their superior assessed their skills right? He had to show Gardenia that he was competent even though he was still a fairly new cadet.

TUNDRA It took her perhaps three seconds to regain her energy. She had an endless supply of it, somehow. "Let me guess..." She slyly eyed Decimus, slid her yellow gaze over to Phobia, then shot a side-glance at Gardenia. "WE FIGHT TO THE DEATH!" She hit both Cadets on the shoulder playfully, then ran in a circle. "I can take you both on at once! Watch me!"
Decimus tensed, imagining what would have been said to him if he did something like that right before training. His mother had begun training him and his brothers with basic skills when they were four moons old. She hadn't been particularly hard on them, but she had wanted to be sure they had a head start since she wanted them to be the best of the best. "Umm....Training is about to begin though. Shouldn't we be listening to Superior Gardenia?"
Superior Gardenia's voice was stern, but she looked more exasperated by the eager young she-cat than angry. Rising to her paws, she gestured with her tail for the trio of Cadets to follow her outside of the cave, stepping into the bright sunlight where an open field lay in front of them; the treeline that marked the forest several fox length's away. "Before I get into any real training with you three," she began, "I'd like to see for myself how far you've progressed in your training. We will have a short sparing session here; no claws and no teeth unless you're looking for severe reprimanding, but don't hold back either. Now, spread out and back up five or so steps."
Once the Cadets had done so, Mercenary Superior Gardenia turned quickly on her feet to face them, her honey fur billowing like clouds with the movement.
"Really?" He almost felt like this was a trick, but an order was still an order so Decimus took a step forward. She was bigger than him so charging in wouldn't do much. Instead he would need to use his mind. Maybe if he came in from the side... The young tom darted forward, waiting until the last moment to veer to the left. His paw stretched out in an attempt to swipe her paws out from under her.

Tundra laughed sheepishly when Decimus spoke to her. Boy... He was serious, huh? Hmm... No fun! She labeled him Party Pooper immediately. But oh my god, Party Pooper is about to show me up. Gotta get in on this action. As soon as he took off sprinting, she sprang ahead as well. She went for Gardenia's hind leg, hoping to get there before Decimus to take her down first.
So, they were thinking out possible strategies from the start, rather than just blindly rushing in and hoping for the best. Good. However...glancing at the pair of Cadets that were sprinting towards her, it was obvious Cadet Tundra was trying to outclass Decimus, instead of assisting him. Neither of them would get anything done acting like that.
Superior Gardenia leaped sideways out of range from both attacks on her legs, before swerving around to smack Cadet Decimus upside the head, pushing him directly into Cadet Tundra. "Tsk tsk," she playfully chided as the pair collided in a heap. "May I remind you both that this isn't a competition? A Regime soldier should be strong and intelligent on their own merit, but they will never enter a battlefield by themselves."
Decimus sat up and shook his head while casting a slightly annoyed glare at Tundra. He hadn't been trying to show anyone up. He had been trying to strategize the best way to take down someone who was bigger and more experienced than he was and then she had decided to turn it into a competition. He really wasn't one to start an argument though so in the end he just dipped his head and decided to try again. Now she would be expecting that tactic though so he would have to try something else. Should he try to work with Tundra? He glanced at the other she cat. She sort of made him nervous honestly. She had way too much energy for his liking.
