Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Lark had spent the last week adjusting to her newfound responsibilities, but she was adjusting well. She was less hands-on with the tykes, which gave her more freedom than before, and more supervisory, which she handled surprisingly well. She now sat by the entrance to Post Kilo, watching fondly as the Raisers put the tykes down for an afternoon nap. The calico heard someone approaching from the tunnels, and turned to greet the newcomer.
"It was odd that she would be the one reporting to her superior on this when she was usually the one advising other soldiers on how best to do this. She supposed others might be beginning to guess by now since she had started growing in size rather quickly. It made her think that she might be in store for a larger litter. She supposed that made sense all things considered. "Superior Lark, may I have a moment?" Venus had come up behind her now. She dipped her head respectfully before she continued. "I'll be needing to take time away from my duties for the time being. I'm expecting tykes myself you see." On the outside, she was beaming, the picture of happiness.
(For the record, at the moment most will assume her tykes are Scout Superior Limavady's cx)
Lark turned to Venus at her initial greeting, listening as she verbalized her request. She had begun to suspect it herself, having been well trained to recognize the signs of tykes on the way, and she reached out to press her nose to Venus' shoulder. "Congratulations, that's so wonderful!" Lark purred, her amber eyes locking on the other Raiser's. "Of course you can have the time off, you understand the importance of good pre-birth care. I would be glad to attend to you, since I'm not directly responsible for any tykes."
"That is very kind of you Superior Lark." It was unexpected, Venus did appreciate that her superior was kind enough to take an interest in her and her tykes. She had lived through many superiors in her life to this point, but she had not spoken to many of them unless they had something they needed her to do. Perhaps things would be different this time around. "I feel like this is going to be a bigger litter. I know I can't be that far along, but I am already starting to gain weight." It worried her honestly. She had spent her entire life raising tykes for the Regime, but this would be the first litter she had birthed herself. She honestly wasn't sure if she would be able to do everything properly.
"That is a fair guess, if you're so early along. The first thing to do is start eating three borage leaves daily, for nutrition for the tykes- you know that, though." Lark stood and made her way to their herb stash that they replenished every so often from the Guiders in the Garden. She had taken care to move it to a more hidden location, away from the tykes. Reaching her calico paw in, she moved out a clump of the leaves and pushed it towards Venus. "Keep those with you. Will you be sleeping in Post Kilo still?"
Venus nodded. While she disliked the idea of taking borage every day, if she was having a big litter, it would be necessary. "Yes, I would feel out of place anywhere else really. I would rather just keep my own nest." She assumed that some expecting she cats might prefer to sleep beside their mates or something of that nature, but due to her complicated situation, it was best for her to stay right where she was.
"Of course." Lark checked to make sure there was enough leaves in the pile, glancing back at the she-cat with a smile. "I'm so happy for you. Do you need anything else from me? Are you nervous about anything?" A pang of fear struck her as she spoke, a brief flashback to her own stillborn litter crossing her mind. She shook it aside- Venus' litter would be fine. She would make sure of that.
Nervous was an understatement really. There was so much on her mind at the moment she couldn't think straight. But she also couldn't vent all of this to her superior. Instead, She gave her a fake smile. It was a smile she was getting used to. She had to put on a face for the crowd, play perfect family with Limavady while things were very different in all actuality. "I suppose I'm a bit nervous. Having my own tykes is quite different than caring for the tykes of others." This was true, but that was not really something that was on her mind at the moment. It was just a comment she'd heard other raisers say when they were expecting so it might help others to assume that whatever worry she was feeling was related to that.
“It definitely is.” Lark said absently, her tail flicking slightly. She managed another smile and nuzzles Venus’ shoulder. “Well if you need anything please let me know! Don’t forget to rest and eat your borage leaves and get some fresh air from time to time.”
(I would rather them bond at this point since we wanted them to become friends right? Venus is still pretty early on cx)
"I'll try. I never traveled up to the surface much to begin with, but I suppose I could try. I really do need a change of pace. After all, everything that's happening right now is a bit much." She didn't want to go into detail, but perhaps spending a bit of time in the fresh air would do her a bit of good.
(gotcha! we can also do deeper convos further along when they're better friends, just let me know c:)
"We could go now, if you have some spare time. It looks like it will be a quiet afternoon for me, so I could escort you. Though I'm not a very good bodyguard, admittedly." Lark chuckled faintly, a bit chagrined at her lack of fighting prowess. "It's been a few weeks since I last went to the surface."
"Alright then. We should be fine though. I think Mars is just being a bit overly cautious and even if we do run into trouble, there are a few secret entrances to the tunnels above ground from what I've heard. We should be able to find one of those quick enough." She wasn't too worried about running into trouble as long as they stayed away from the borders.
