(So begins the overly complicated love triangle that leads to all out war. cx)
She knew what she was doing was wrong. She had known for a long time that this was wrong. She was mated to Limavady and he treated her well as far as she could tell. He had never given her any reason to dislike him or to betray his trust like she had. At first she and Fjord had just been friends. She had felt sorry for him and felt like he might need a bit of company. After all, her brother was getting a lot of attention as the Regime's new commander so it was easy to look over what had happened to cause Fjord to step down in the first place. Then she had quickly found that she enjoyed the time she spent with Fjord. She could be herself. She was able to relax more than she had been able to in the moons since she had become Limavady's mate. She knew this probably made her a terrible person, but she had begun to realize just how unhappy she was with her mate and so she had found herself spending more and more time with Fjord until she had come to this moment.
She was sitting in front of Fjord now in one of the unused tunnels. She had asked him to come out here with her so that they could talk. She was sitting close to him so that she could be sure that he would hear her and she had just informed him that she was expecting tykes and that she honestly didn't know if they were his or Limavady's. Now, Limavady should have been the first one she told, but her paws had taken her to Fjord and so that was who she had spoken to. Now, her green eyes were locked on him as she searched for answers. Surely he would have some idea of what to do.

He had not meant to grow so fond of the black and white she-cat in front of him. At first, she was just his caretaker. After being deafened and his left hip crushed by the tunnel collapse, Fjord had to step down and needed a raiser to stay with him and help him adjust to the life change. Venus was that raiser. She had made him feel peace after the world literally came crashing down on him, and at first he thought he was simply grateful. However, over time he came to love her presence in his life. He started longing for the moments that he got to spend by her side, even if he did feel a bit helpless. Now, he regained his strength and got used to being mostly deaf thanks to her help.
He purred as she stood close to him, not minding the whole being deaf thing at the moment. His purr was cut short, though, as her words entered his ears. In fact, he wasn't completely sure if he had heard her right. She was expecting tykes? A blur of emotions whizzed through his whole being from nose to tail-tip. He felt elated, yet concerned. He felt choked with the emotion as the realization of being a possible father washed over him in sheets. Either way, he wanted to be there for these tykes. If they were Limavady's then they were bound to have a strained life. Fjord saw the way the Scout Superior manipulated Venus... Realizing she was probably waiting for his response, Fjord couldn't help but press his cheek against hers. "It will all be okay. We will work this out somehow." He told her gently then added, "Does Limavady know?"
His question sent a quiver of fear through her. "No...I haven't told him yet." Her ears flattened. What would he think of her then? Her appearance was going to change after all and she was going to have to shift her attention to taking care of herself. She wasn't sure how Limavady would react. He was good to her. He hadn't ever given her a reason to be unhappy right? Even so, she found herself wishing that Fjord was the only one she had to tell, that she had never entered into a relationship with Limavady to begin with. She couldn't leave him now though. What would everyone say? They would look down on her for cheating. They would know that she had ruined Limavady's trust in her and brought shame to both families.
When Fjord told her it would be alright however, she felt all of her worries begin to melt away. She actually believed him. Unlike when she was with Limavady, she felt special with Fjord, like he actually valued her company even when they were alone. "I will tell him soon. I just wanted some time to collect my thoughts." After all, if these tykes were Fjord's then Limavady would most likely realize that she had an affair.

Fjord nodded slowly, understanding her hesitation. He definitely did not want anyone to look down on her or their family. He wrapped his tail around her side and met her gaze with his own blue and amber. "That is alright. I just wanted to make sure." He reassured her. His mind drifted over all the possibilities of Limavady finding out. They couldn't just tell him or he may react harshly. It would be no secret, though, if the tykes were Fjord's. Heterochromia and bright white fur ran strong through his family. He also worried how the tom would treat Venus once he figured out. The thought made his veins burn, but he knew Venus did not see Limavady in the same light. He silently wondered if Mars noticed, also. Would it be worth it to speak to him before Limavady? And what if the tykes were the scout superior's? "Either way, they will be loved by me." He resolved with himself.
Warmth spread through Venus at his words. He would love these tykes even if Limavady was their father? She knew that the same probably couldn't be said of Limavady. He would be furious. Even she knew that. He would have a good reason to be though. She would give him that at least. She shifted so that she was sitting beside him and pressed her pelt against his. She knew they would have to return shortly. These moments never lasted long enough. She had to keep them short so that no one truly suspected what was going on. "We need to go back...Maybe we can speak more tonight?" It was easier to speak when their comrades were asleep after all. No one would be awake to listen in on their conversation.

He was always there when you least expected it. Limavady rounded the corner, having followed Venus' scent with his keen nose, and stopped in the framework of the tunnel. He spied Fjord alone with his lady, and a hot wave of jealousy flushed over him. "Hi, what are you guys doing?" His words held a bit of anger, and his green eyes narrowed at Fjord aggressively. He'd better have a good excuse. He didn't like it when Venus talked to any tomcat, and didn't believe in friendship between those of the opposite sex.
Venus jumped slightly when Limavady spoke and she quickly shifted away from Fjord. He looked upset. Did he know? There was no way he could know is there? "Limavady! We were taking a walk and just stopped for a rest. I was assigned to look after Fjord after his injuries remember?" It was a good enough excuse for now since she had been his caretaker for the past couple moons and with Fjord's injuries, it made sense to stop for a rest every now and then. "Were you looking for me?" She was still nervous. He looked angry. Would he try to fight Fjord? If he did, what would she do? Would he be mad if she tried to stop him? Without even realizing it, she looked to Fjord, hoping he would have a more suitable answer. Her usually confident demeanor was hard to come by these days, especially when she was around Limavady.

Sure. Reasonable. His ears pricked as he listened to her words, but his green eyes skeptically surveyed her posture. "Yes," he replied tentatively, "I remember." and I don't like it at all. He took a calming breath, leaned up against the frame, and crossed his front paws. He could sense her nervousness. Why was she nervous? He could tell the difference between this she-cat who was timid and the one who usually had her back straightened. Something felt odd here. Limavady was intuitive, his narrowed eyes caught the finer details; that was why they had promoted him in the first place. His ability to read the minds of other animals was what made him a supreme hunter. He knew to trust his instincts; they were what had kept him alive all these years. He could smell the discomfort lingering in the air. It made him uncomfortable and angry. His glare seemed to pass straight through them momentarily. Venus is cheating on me. That look - why does she look at Fjord like that? I hate it. I HATE IT! A few passing notions crossed his mind, as if they were interrupting his train of thought.
→ Fjord is out to destroy you. He is going to steal your lady. Just kill him now! You know you'd like to! ← Nonsense! Fjord hasn't done anything wrong. Surely, he's a nice guy. Besides, I couldn't do that in front of Venus. Her heart couldn't handle it. → Fool! You're blinding yourself here... Venus is weak-minded. She is untrustworthy. Kill her, too. ← Now that's completely asinine. She is my lover. I would never. → You could do better than this. You could do great things. Kill them all. ←
His nose crinkled, but then he relaxed and blinked slowly. How terrible. What were these feelings? He usually never thought of murdering in cold blood over something so petty as jealousy. Venus wouldn't cheat on him, anyway. He had faith in her, like any good mate would. Give the benefit of the doubt, right? You've got to believe in true love. There's no reason she would, I mean, I'm the best, after all. Venus was among the nicest, most innocent creatures he knew. She did everything he asked and without any attitude; she was a good mate as far as he was concerned. He looked away from them for a moment, as if he was trying to remember something, and then evenly made eye contact with Venus. "I was hoping you'd meet me in Post Echo later tonight. Cadet Tundra caught her first pheasant, and offered it to me as tribute for teaching her how to hunt them... I want to share it with you."
A sharp pain seized him, as if acting civil stabbed a sharp claw into his gut. He furrowed his brow and squinted at Fjord. "Once you're done babysitting, I'll be waiting for you." The desire to attack overwhelmed him, but instead, he fought against it, and casually turned around to leave. His tail ticked irritably as he disappeared into the shadows.

Alarm surged through Fjord, almost making him jump. He was not expecting Limavady just to appear. Still, the white tom had a knack for putting on a calm appearance. His heterochromic eyes turned towards the Scout Superior and narrowed. If he was still commander, would this tom be in his role? That question buzzed in his mind like a bunch of bees. He felt a bristle rise along his spine at the tom's last comment. Boy, did this prove how much mature and likable Lakota was to Fjord than this crazy furball. It wasn't like Fjord commanded respect because of his former title, but you would think someone would have the decency to at least be polite. Still, he rose to his feet and placed a smile that could kill on his maw. "I apologize Limavady, I could not hear what she was saying so I leaned in closer to listen. It's unfortunate these circumstances, but I hope you can understand." He explained with such emotional poise that you would think he could calm rocky waters with his tongue. The lie felt hot and guilty under his tongue, but his dislike for the other tom made it worth it.

Fjord's words rang in his ears as Limavady walked down the hall. He over-analyzed every word. His emotions twisted his phrases from what Fjord said to what Limavady felt he meant. He went straight for the top!soil and would find himself killing prey to relieve his stress.
"I apologize, Mr. Mouse, I could not hear what you are saying so I have to lean in closer to listen."
The mouse was petrified, so much so that it couldn't move in such a frozen state of fear. Limavady growled in his mockery and distaste.
"It's unfortunate these circumstances, but I hope you can understand."
Venus visibly relaxed once Limavady left. He suspected her. She was sure of it. She could see that much in his eyes. Yes she felt guilty for deceiving him, but she just didn't have the courage to truly end things with him. What would happen to her? What would he do? He wouldn't hurt her. She knew that much, but she knew that he would most likely do something to get even. "I will have to join him tonight. He'll be upset if I don't. Perhaps if we meet a bit earlier than usual..." She really just wanted a bit of time to compose herself before she joined Limavady in the evening. She sighed. "Perhaps...Perhaps I should just end things with him once and for all. It's not right for me to be leading him on like this, but..." She shook her head. She was still afraid. She would have to gather her courage if she was to do something like that.

Fjord rested his head on hers and let out a sigh, feeling the tension starting to wear off yet not completely. That was a super close call... She was right; they really couldn't hide it for much longer. "We can meet earlier tonight. Limavady will probably need to know. Maybe we can both talk to him tonight? I don't want you facing him alone." Fjord responded, not happy with his answer. He wish he had the ability to take away all her worry and rid her of that tom. Everything in him screamed to keep hiding it for her own sake, but what would happen if he discovered later? Would the consequences be worse for Venus? The thought made his blood boil.
"Perhaps...It isn't going to go well. Limavady....Well he is very proud and this is something that will damage his appearance, especially if..." She trailed off. If the rest of the Regime knew the truth, they wouldn't look at Limavady the same. They couldn't. That was why she was going to try to keep it a secret. This was all her fault right? She was the one that had been unfaithful and in the end, she had fallen in love with Fjord, more so than she loved Limavady. "We will meet an hour before I'm supposed to meet with Limavady. That should give us enough time to figure something out about how to tell him about the tykes."
(Perhaps we should skip to the evening now when everything starts?)
