He wasn't looking forward to it. Today was Cadet Mass Training, and as Scout Superior, it was his duty to test and assess each Cadet, and then teach them to do better. I'm no mentor. Nope. Limavady disliked children... C'mon, he didn't hate them, but none of them stood out to him as anything besides absolutely annoying. And they never listened! He sighed, dragging his paws as he neared Post Echo. He would probably have to break up a fight as soon as he walked in, or insist on everybody shutting up before he could actually address the class. Cadets were always stirring trouble and breakin' the law. How dare they? Who do they think they are? His eyes blanked a split-second into oblivion.
»» We are all untamed, beasts of chaos. ««
He spontaneously combusted, screamed and cried for help, and died right then and there. Just kidding. Sometimes he prayed for it, though. Limavady turned the corner chuckling to himself. BP SAVE ME... Come to find, nobody was actually there. Not even the Cadets were waiting for him, and he thought he was the late one. What the heck man? He stood there, puzzled. Then, suddenly, he was on alert. Were they playing a trick on him? Or was this area evacuated for a reason? His face scrunched as he sniffed the air.
What was that... stench?

"UGH! Great job, you bat-brains! Now you've made it even angrier!"
On the far side of Post Echo, just out of Superior Limavady's line of sight, a group of Scout Cadets were huddled together on a ledge made up of a pile of fallen boulders. Due to the small amount of space atop the rocks, the young cats were practically squished together, with some of them even crouched down and clinging to the stone with their claws, lest they fall off the high ground and onto the Post's floor...where it was.
Cadet Primus' nose wrinkled and he made a face at the horrid smell that was wafting up to them. It smelled worse than rotten fresh-kill! The fluffy black tom hissed angrily at his post mates; clearly throwing rocks down at it wasn't helping, if the stench was any indication. With fearful golden eyes he peered over the ledge down at the monster, and a pair of beady black eyes stared right back up at him and hissed.
The creature resembled a weasel in form, with a little brown nose that stood out against its silky black pelt. But it's most outstanding feature was the snow-white stripe that ran from the top of its head, all the way down to the end of a flat, fluffy tail.

Cadet Tundra was either fearless or just stupid; both of which were needed to do what she was about to do. She had some combat training in her time spent as a Mercenary Cadet, she felt she could handle this all by herself. She jumped down from the boulders swiftly, hissing at the creature even though she barely knew what it was. She thought she looked so brave.
The skunk turned on her, lifted it's bushy tail, and shot her with a spray that singed her nostrils and made her squeal like a little kitten.

Cadet Loring and Cadet Angela stood back and watched the others get sprayed by the skunk. The two scout cadets had arrived early that morning, ready for training. However, when they scented the skunk they were quick to stand out of the way. Cadet Loring watched as Limavady rounded the corner. Great. This should be an interesting session... Being the son of Laurel and Lasha, meaning several grandparents as commanders, he was a generally poised and all-together kind of cat.
Cadet Primus repressed the urge to whack his head against the cold cavern wall as he watched Cadet Tundra foolishly attempt to fight the striped creature, only to get sprayed. But the young tom had been so preoccupied watching Tundra, that he didn't notice when Cadet Idiot had positioned himself on the ground directly in front of him. So when Idiot provoked the skunk and jumped out of the way...the cat that unfortuniately got sprayed was him. "Agggk!" Primus loudly hissed in pain as the foul spray hit him directly in the face. He struggled to get his barings of his surroundings, but his eyes were already so flooded with tears that the entire world was completely blurry. Losing his balance, he fell backwards off of the rock he was standing on, and collided with Cadet Angela as he hit the ground.

His emerald eyes were like an optical lens belonging to a sniper. He zoomed in on the skunk's strong fore-feet and long nails. It had five toes. Interesting. An extra claw. They truly were craftsmen of earth, far superior to cats at digging. Every once in a while there would be a new hallway or den within the tunnels, although skunks weren't the only excavators around these parts.
He look over the pelt: two bold, white stripes. Not that it could help you determine the gender in the first place. You couldn't guess a skunk's sex by it's looks, even though he looked like a big boy to Limavady anyway. He would whistle, as if a sarcastic cat could do that, and assume the skunks gender. If he was male, he might have more of a temper to lash out and take a bite out of one of his many, foolish cadets. The scout superior prayed that he could get this under control before anyone got truly hurt.
"Cadets! Scatter! Get away from that!" He worried feverishly - Mars would probably have his hide if anything terrible happened to them. Skunks had very few natural predators, and unfortunately, cats weren't one of them. Skunks could be vicious, skunks were omnivorous and would eat you if they were hungry enough. Considering winter and that an animal had dared to travel this far into the warning-marked post, it might be looking for a little cadet-sized snack.
Idiot spotted Limavady a few tail-lengths away. He wanted to laugh at Cadet Primus's situation, but moment at hand called for safety. When he heard Limavady call for them to scatter, his simple mind calculated a few things.
Limavady = Safety, Safety = No Smelly Spray
And with that, he dashed toward him, full speed ahead. With a one paw turn, he swung himself behind the superior, peeking out just enough to see the cadets and skunk.

Cadet Tundra, struck with unbearable embarrassment, felt the great desire to redeem herself. When the skunk was distracted by That Idiot, she completely disobeyed Limavady's orders and jumped on the skunk's back. It buckled; she dug in her claws. It hissed, turned to grab her by the fore-leg, and threw her off. Tundra yelped; the skunk shrank back, stamping it's feet and hissing out of fear and anger.

"Oh!" Cadet Angela exclaimed at Cadet Primus barrelled into her. "Are you okay?!" She asked, clearly alarmed and now stinking from the skunk. Cadet Loring moved in front of the two tangled cadets instinctively, hoping to protect them in some sort of way.
"Ugh..." Cadet Primus groaned as he pushed himself back on his feet. The fall had been disorienting, that for a moment he hadn't recognized the young she-cat he had hit. As his ears processed his question, he suddenly noticed the cream form beside him and felt a wave on panic. "Angela! Are you okay?! I'm sorry, I didn't know how far that...thing's spray could reach..." His apology fell away into a frustrated mumble. He was supposed to be the responsible one, the reliable one, the one everyone looked up to. What would his mother think, if she heard about this?

LIMAVADY He sighed heavily. You see? Morons. All of them. Aren't they being taught something, anything, by their mentors? He glanced over his shoulder to see Cadet Idiot cowering behind him. Perhaps he was the smartest one out of this whole clowder, having been the only one who had followed his orders. Idiot might be truly an idiot at times but at least he wasn't a moron. Poor fool. Why did they name him that? Is that even his real name? Limavady wasn't so certain, and yet he admitted to himself that they ought to be calling him Coward, which has got to be at least one step above Idiot, since being afraid of things held some merit. He shook his head at him, then turned his attention back to the cluster of Morons. TUNDRA The white Turkish Angora was feeling pain for the first time in her entire life. The skunk had bitten her paw and had pierced skin. The injuries weren't devastating, it could have been far worse. Still, she whimpered over it, and scrambled to her feet. It hurt to stand on her right forepaw and her shoulder felt sore from landing awkwardly on the stone floor. The skunk had earned some more of her respect, so she scrambled back and away from it. Taking a moment to lift her paw, she saw that blood had begun to seep into the white furs surrounding the punctured points. "Foxdung," she spat. Now she smelled like a nuisance and warranted a trip to The Garden. Today was turning out to be pretty terrible already.

LIMAVADY "This is training." He remarked curtly, without taking his eyes off Tundra. His expression was very serious but his demeanor remained calm as he sat down. "Some of us learn the easy way. Others have to learn the hard way."
Primus' ear twitched as he caught the Scout Superior's words, and the young cadet grit his teeth to retrain himself from snapping at Limavady. Who did that guy think he was?! That creature in front of them was powerful and dangerous; it could kill one of them, and the Superior didn't seem to give a care! And he had the gall to call this training...this skunk attack wasn't even planned! Was it?
No. Wait. The tom's eyes lit up with the realization. This was an opportunity. If he could take charge and solve the problem, everyone would have to respect him then!
"Tundra! Idiot! Get over here, I have an idea!" He quickly turned to face Cadet Loring and Cadet Angela, keeping the angry skunk in the corner of his vision. "Listen, Superior Limavady's obviously testing us with this. That thing is too strong to take on alone, we need to work together. Are you two in?"

LIMAVADY
His green, stoic gaze rested upon possibly the youngest Cadet he'd ever seen in Post Echo: Primus. He remembered the day him and his litter were born, nearly three and a half moons ago. Leaf-fall felt like only yesterday. Even so, cadets typically waited six moons before apprenticeship and he truly wasn't expecting anything out of him. Primus should be losing baby teeth instead of patches of fur. His brother Septimus had been the only one out of the litter not to be promoted early, and he wondered why that was. However, Primus might be the only one with the brain power needed to get through this obstacle. He squinted to refocus his optics on the son of Diana, black pelted with blue-fading-to-golden eyes. He'd be full-grown soon enough, and would perhaps fit into the mold of a respectable feline among the ranks of The Regiment.
He rotated one of his tall, pointed ears to Idiot, but nothing else. "What is it, do you think, that makes a great leader in this harsh world, Cadet?"
TUNDRA The white, fluffy Angora gathered herself and backed up and away further from the skunk. She was careful not to set her injured paw down too heavily on the soil, though it was numbed still by the adrenaline that pounded through her heart and didn't hurt too terribly. Her eyes narrowed with her fear as she looked to Primus. Her idea hadn't worked, so what now? "Maybe we should listen to Limavady and scatter; that thing has teeth and knows how to use them!" She whimpered and flattened her ears.

Idiot paused, thinking. "I guess, sir, that it's the willingness to lead and listen to those you do lead. Or ya know, if you look cool." He said before bounding over to Primus and Tundra.
"And?" He replied to Tundra. "If he says he's got a plan, then I guess we gotta go with it." He said and looked to Primus, almost guddy.
"And what would our mentors think? Or the older soldiers think? What would our parents think, if we just ran away with our tails in-between our legs, huh?" Cadet Primus retorted sharply to Cadet Tundra. "What would they think about us, the future of the Regime, if we can't defeat an overgrown rodent with a body odor issue?" His black, feather-like tail lashed behind him in annoyance, before turning his back on her to face the skunk, leaving the she-cat to decide for herself what she wanted to do.
He lifted a front paw and pointed towards the far wall of the Post, a good few fox-lengths behind the skunk who was currently still huddled next to the pile of boulders; eyeing the cats around it with twitchy anxiousness and agitation. "That tunnel there is the closest exit that leads to the surface. Our two options are to either force it to go back to where it came from...or kill it. We already know that one of us alone can't take it directly, but if we work together as a combined unit, we should be able either intimidate it or overpower it depending on which course we take."

LIMAVADY The Cadet's words did not reach the Scout Superior's heart. Perhaps you're just an idiot after all, he mused. The tip of his tail flicked and the fur along his spine rose slightly. His agitated train of thought continued with his brooding silence: No. The alpha does not need to listen to his pack in order to lead them. The alpha makes his own way and lives for the hunt by every means necessary, and should already know this. He is followed because he succeeds in chasing down what he dreams for to the ground. He relies merely on his purpose and his teeth, nothing but his primal instinct, and either is or isn't strong enough to keep his crown. It is that simple. In this world, you are made to fight for your title or fall in line with sheep on the food chain. If a leader should falter in his purpose, or bare no conviction at all, that is when he is no longer fit to be king. He shifted in his seat, sitting just a bit taller. However, it is better to be a lone wolf with your dignity than to obediently yield to those who'd rather you alter your purpose; your way of living is what keeps you alive. You are not the alpha if you bend so easily to the will of your flock, for they follow you because you are able to hold your ground and survive. If you are constantly abiding to the flock, you are wearing the sheepskin yourself, and it is disgusting to call yourself an alpha at all. TUNDRA
She passed her blank glance to Idiot, then back to Primus. The she-cat knew how to fight from her training as a Mercenary Cadet, but when it came to strategizing, she was nearly useless. Asking the skunk to politely leave seemed impossible to her. Besides, cats couldn't speak skunk anyway. "Well, how do you supposed we kill it?" Her yellow eyes nervously checked on the skunk, which seemed to have found its way to the fresh-kill pile. It moodily eyed her in return, greedily eating up what little prey Scouts had been able to gather. She gulped and then cursed for having not eaten yet herself. "It's all crowfood now... I won't be able to eat anything that beast has drooled over."

"Oh, it's okay! I'm okay!" Cadet Angela answered quickly and rose to her paws in a hurry. Her ears flicked up in surprise at the tom's suggestion and a wave of doubt washed over her for a second. "No, you have to be brave." The she-cat told herself, putting on the most confident face she could muster. Several members of the Regime looked down on her and her siblings because of their mother. She had to prove that they were just as able as the rest! "I'm in!"
"Wait, wait, wait." Cadet Loring piped up, feeling a bit sheepish under the gazes of the others. He too had a legacy to uphold and being one of the older cadets did not help the pressure. "I'm with Tundra. We probably should come up with a plan before simply charging at it. I'm all for getting rid of it, but we can't just charge in there all willy-nilly and expect to win."
