Cannalily was once more having a weak day. She could barely pull herself up to her feet as she got out of her nest in the Warrior's Den. She winced, her body aching, protesting, begging her not to move more than she had to. But she had to get up. There were no two ways about it. She made herself over to the freshkill pile and picked up her ration. She turned to go back to her den, but it felt so far away to her aching body.
Should she go to the Medicine Cat's den? Was there really anything Turbulentsea and Brightleaf could do for her at the moment? Her mind sort of fogged up for a moment as she stood out in the cold with a mouse in her mouth. Which was closer? The Medicine Cat's den, the Warrior's den, or...?
She couldn't think on an empty stomach. She went to the closest shelter she could think of; the Nursery. She managed to get in and out of the cold and sat down to eat. Then she could decide what to do, once warm and full.

Specklekit, sprawled on his back with his spotted belly stretched skyward, blinked sleepily as heard someone else enter the den. His head tilted back until his ears brushed the floor, and he stared upside-down at the she-cat with a vacant expression until he finally processed they had a visitor.
"Oh! Uh, hi! Are you new?" His head titled and he rolled over to get a better look at her. Was she going to have kits? He didn't know anyone new was moving in, but nobody ever told him anything.

"O-Oh!" Cannalily sort of realized where she was. "N-No, I wouldn't say I'm new. I'm around. You know, I'm a Warrior and all. Been here my whole life." She dropped the mouse as she spoke, watching the kit tilt and roll. It brought a smile to her face.

"Oh!" Cannalily said. This was going to be a sore point for her. Something Cannalily had wanted was her own litter of kits someday. With how sick she constantly was, that goal was long dead in her mind.
"Unfortunately not... I'm sorry..." Her tail lied flat on the ground, and her body language sank low. She really wanted kits but...
Specklekit tilted his head. There was something in her body language that confused him; she seemed sad, almost, but why would she be sad? They were the ones that were disappointed. "It's crowded in here anyway. We've got plenty of playmates," the young tomkit assured her. "Isn't that right, Shadekit?"
Shadekit nodded, "Yeah all of Burningstar's kits are really big, and Soaringbird's are almost full grown too. There's barely any room! The bigger kits take all the good sleeping spots!" Shadekit said with a huff.

“I... I suppose but....” Cannalily went quiet. They were kits. It wouldn’t be right to drop her emotional baggage on them. She tried to put on a convincing smile. “At least you have playmates, right? That must be fun...”
Shadekit shrugged, "Yeah it is pretty fun," He agreed. "Some of them are nicer or better playmates than others, but all in all it's pleasant." He said with aflick of his tail. "But why are you looking all sad? Isn't being a warrior fun?" He asked lifting his hind paw to scratch at his ear.

Uh oh, she was put on the spot there.
"I mean... Yes, it is very fun. You get to patrol, hunt, and do other things to take care of the Clan." She explained. "But..." Her tail wrapped around her feet. "I've just... Always wanted kits, you know?"
"No." Specklekit stared at her blankly. "I don't want kits. They're all noisy and bossy and mean." He still remembered all too clearly how the others had reacted them he accidentally -- well, okay, purposefully -- destroyed their nest.

"Oh, but they can be sweet and loving and caring too." Cannalily said. "They can make you feel whole and so many wonderful things. Motherhood is something I've always wanted to experience, so I can pass down the same kind of love my mother gave me."
Specklekit stared at her for a moment, then cracked up. "That's a good one! That's now how kits make you feel, trust me," he assured her, "you're better off this way."

Cannalily felt a little hurt at Specklekit's complete shut down of Cannalily's desires, but she relented a bit. "I suppose things will go as things go...."
He didn't notice her hurt and just nodded importantly, glad to have helped. "Yep, I guess so. You can't stop things from going!" He smiled widely at his sage advice.
