Ravenstone's footsteps grew more and more nervous as they neared the moon creek. For this trip, she had only brought Greythorn along with her as she was too worried to spare her deputy or a single warrior or apprentice. It was vital the camp was protected right now, although she doubted any other clans would make a move now of all times. The sleek black she-cat did not know what expect, only that the ceremony was secret and she could speak of it to none except her medicine cat.
drip drip drop drip drip drop
She felt like it was all she could hear as the deputy stared into the starry depths of the moonpool. Once she touched the eerily smooth and calm water, she would never be the same. Life would be different as leader, she could already sense that. She would no longer sleep in the nest that she had once shared with her dead mate, Dragonrage, and she would have less time to spend with her friends and kits. But, they were all sacrifices she was willing to make for her clan to keep it together.
Ravenstone glanced at Greythorn, looking to the younger cat almost for words of comfort or anything to ease her anxiety. She had been to the mooncreek with Angelstar many seasons ago but had never actually touched it.

Graythorn padded along quietly as he traveled with Ravenstone to the Moon Creek. It wasn't all that long ago he had made the trip with Frostcloud. Life sure has some unexpected turns, he thought. When he reached the water, it had a strange, calming effect on him. He was noticing this more and more as he came here. He looked over at Ravenstone and sensed unease in her spirit. Not unlike how I felt when I came here with Frostcloud, he mused. Being through a nine lives ceremony, he now knew what to expect. "You're going to be honored by our ancestors," he said hoping to encourage her. "And the time we'll spend with StarClan will seem to pass by very quickly." The gray tabby flashed her a rare smile. "Just think, soon you'll have nine lives to give in service for SummerClan."

She stared at him for a few moments, grey eyes filled with unease and nervousness. His words did soothe her somewhat and she nodded gratefully. Ravenstone lay beside the pool the way she had seen both of her previous leaders do and touched her nose to the chilling surface. There was a strange, cold burning that spread throughout her entire body that seemed to last forever but finally it ebbed away and she opened her eyes with a gasp.
She was surrounded by landscape that wasn't quite real and the cats around her had stars in their pelts. It was beautiful unlike any sight she had ever seen before and they all seemed to shift and move in unison with one another. She did not speak, but waited for the ceremony to start unsure of what she should expect other than living with nine lives and her new name.

Taking a lap of water, Graythorn laid down next to Ravestone facing the creek with his front legs neatly tucked under his chest. Within a few seconds he too was transported to the realm of StarClan. This was not new to him anymore but the experience still gave him a sense of awe. As he looked, he saw lots of cats, all with fur that glittered like stars. Some he recognized from having meeting them before in StarClan on his previous visits during the half moon gatherings but there were many more he did not know. "They're waiting for all the cats who will be giving you a life to arrive," he whispered softly to Ravenstone. "All these others are SummerClan ancestors who will witness the ceremony."
A gray tabby tom with four white feet moved a little bit closer than the others and sat down opposite the living cats but still a good distance away. He had an air of authority that surrounded him and he held his head erect. Piercing green eyes that seemed to glitter with starlight fixed on Ravenstone and Graythorn but the eyes were tempered by a gentle smile.
There were several, long moments of silence, allowing for Ravenstone to take in the sight of the star-covered spirits that surrounded her, until finally, a sole figure stepped forward out of the crowd towards the new leader. "Greetings, Ravenstone. Welcome to Starclan. I hope you found your way alright."
A sleek, silver tabby she-cat padded across the small distance between the crowd and the two living cats, her soft, moss-green gaze meeting the leader's as she walked. When she finally stopped, the starry feline was only a breath away from the new leader, and the Starclan warrior smiled gently. "My name is Beautifulgift," she purred introduction. "I've been granted the honor of presenting you with your first life. Long before you, or any of your generation were even born, I was the only one of my litter that survived a brutal sickness, one that also took the life of my father. From apprenticehood, I dedicated every moment of my life into caring for my elderly mother, to the point of pushing my own personal happiness aside. When my mother finally died, I didn't know what to do with myself. I felt like I had failed my mother, so I left Summerclan, never to return." A shadow of sadness crossed her face at that, and Beautifulgift glanced back towards the crowd, where a fluffy, snow-white she-cat smiled encougingly at her. Beautifulgift's own smile returned, and she leaned forward to touch her nose to Ravenstone's forehead.
"With this life I give you Loyalty. Learn from my mistake; don't obsessively devote yourself to just one cat, but dedicate yourself to the good of every member of your clan. Summerclan is a family that extends far beyond blood, and the loyalty that you give to them will be returned in full. Even in the darkest and bleakest of times, they will support you, and you will stand together as one."
With that, Beautifullgift beamed at Ravenstone one last time before walking back to the crowd, nuzzling her mother before taking a seat beside her.

Ravenstone watched Beautiful gift approach and the Starclan cats were even more amazing up close. Something was certainly ethereal about them and she could not remove her eyes for even a second. As the she-cat touched her forehead, she felt a warm but sharp feeling spread throughout her body. A determination if you will and a knowing that she had always been and would always be loyal to her clan. She could feel the love and the strength behind the unfamiliar she-cat's life and Ravenstone reveled in the feeling, understanding to an extent what it was like to focus too much on one thing.
As she stepped away, Ravenstone wanted to say something and began to open her mouth, but quickly shut it. This wasn't the time and place for her to try and talk to each of these cats. Instead, she dipped her head gratefully and waited for the next cat. Already, something about her felt different from when she first arrived.

The gray tabby with white feet watched Beautifulgift retake her place among the other StarClan cats. Then with grace, he rose to his paws and padded regally over to the two SummerClan cats. He gave Graythorn a smile then looked at Ravenstone. "Greetings. We've been watching you long before you stepped into the role of leadership and are pleased with what we've seen. I'm Graystar," the famous leader continued. "You will be a great leader, long remembered by future generations of SummerClan cats." He moved in closer to Ravenstone then stopped a mouse length from her. "There is coming a time when you'll need to see what is now hidden from your eyes, the intents of other cats' hearts, the truth that is veiled. With this life, I give you the gift of discernment." Graystar then leaned forward and touched his nose to Ravenstone's nose and instantly he felt a surge of power rush from him to her.
He backed away with a smile on his face, feeling good at the choice of the cat who has become Summerclan's new leader. In his heart too was pride that someone from his lineage was chosen to be a medicine cat. He cast another quick smile at Graythorn before he sat down again with the others.

Ravenstar was surprised by the sudden and intense rush passing through her. It started in her nose where her and Graystar had touched and began to grow in strength as it passed through her before fading towards the beginning of her tail and then disappearing all together. She was amazed by the sudden clarity within her mind as if the life had lifted a veil of confusion and grogginess. She dipped her head respectfully to the previous leader of Summerclan before standing tall once again, grey eyes filled with curiosity and also pride. Beyond the life he gifted her, his words had also filled her with a great sense of pride and determination to do good by her ancestors looking down upon her. She noticed the smile to graythorn and smiled herself, there must be some sort of connection there and she was pleased to know it.

The starry calico molly grinned as she watched the other past leader step back, rising onto her light paws. The heart shaped patch on her chest glowed fiercely, the center of the pricks of light that made constellations on her pelt. She neared Ravenstar, the smile present in her eyes. She dipped her head, as if she too wasnt a leader at some point. "My name is Pyrostar, a forgotten leader. I lived my life with my heart visible to all, friend or foe, and I lost the ability to tell one from another. Eventually it killed me in the end, but given the chance after death I would not harm my killer. I will entrust you with this life of mercy, which I granted my killer that day, in hopes that you may use it to decide when you may need to strike and when you may need to show some heart of your own." Touching her nose to the other she-cats she churred, a light and happy sound, before prancing back to her spot among the others.

The sleek black she-cat was surprised by Pyrostar dipping her head towards her but merely dipped her head in return. She smiled as the calico she-cat spoke, knowing that mercy was not an easy feat. She had never experienced death the way these cats had and had never been forced to forgive another for something so horrendous - at least not a cat that she could remember. She received the life with a gasp of shock, there was a flash of great pain and then a strange piece she had never felt before. She was shaking a bit from the pain but it slowly faded and she stood normally, grey eyes sparkling as the past leader retreated.

A small black she-cat barely out of apprenticeship pranced on the mist of stars swirling around her feet. Taking a small break from her seeming fawnlike game she padded over to her once clan mate. "Hey Ravenstone!" She exclaimed as she came nose to nose with the new leader. "Oh sorry I mean Ravenstar." she gave a silly giggle. If Snapdragon had made it more than a few moons into her warrior life she would be a senior warrior by now. But dying in her youth she maintained her young spirit. "I died far too young to understand the world you now lead in." she meowed softly an more serious but light mood settling in. "I give you the life of joy. Because a leader who cant learn to find the happiness in the most terrible times with bring her clan down with her. Seek out joy Ravenstar. Don't let them get you down." she reached up on her tip toes to gently touch her muzzle to her head.

Ravenstone had to bend down to receive this life from the young warrior, smiling. She could see why the young warrior was giving her a life of joy, her presence alone brought a smile onto her face and warmth in her heart. She was reminded of when she brought her first litter into the world, the happiness her mate and kits brought her, the joy of a hunt, the camaraderie of patrolling and spending time with her clan. She remembered almost every moment where she had been pleased and joyful or found it in her activities. She dipped her head to the she-cat with a purr.
Slender as a shadow, she separated herself quietly from the crowd to greet her mother. She looked younger than she was when she died - like a newly promoted warrior once more, her green eyes shy and her svelte frame silky. "Hi," she mewed softly to Ravenstone, hesitant, lacking so much of her certainty from later in life. Her mate had given her confidence, but he had made her blind to his faults, and now that she was aware she could not trust her own self.
"This life is for protection," she began, touching her muzzle to the deputy's. "Nurture your clan, and protect them. Treat your warriors like they are your kits, and you shall never worry their courage or support will lapse." Demonfringe smiled, then, feeling a rush of pride in her mother.

Ravenstone's grey eyes looked at her daughter with a longing and a sadness in them. Her daughter looked so young and beautiful and reminded her of the day when she watched her first litter become warriors. This life reminded her of a fierceness that she had felt many times before. For her kits, her mates, her clan... it was exceedingly fierce and painful even. She held that pain close to her though and never took her eyes off of Demonfringe. "I'm so sorry I could not protect you." She whispered, touching her nose to her daughter's muzzle once again. If anything, this made everything worth it because she got to see her one more time. Ravenstone had one surviving kit and she would not fail him or Snowkit again. She had already lost an entire litter to stress and malnutrition, after all. "Hunt well in the stars." She added before Demonfringe stepped away and her eyes watched her move wistfully.
Something changed. A cat came from the group, and silence befell the others. Her pawsteps were slow, but yet... something was off about her. Green eyes flashed slightly, and the feline finally reached Ravenstone. “So you are to be the next leader.” Her eyes seemed to glaze over as she felt her own rush of emotions follow through her pale and almost clear spirit. Almost forgotten... that is what happened to cats whenever they were no longer told of in stories.
“I am Turtlestar.” Her voice was oddly smooth, yet at the same time held a hint of harshness in her tone. “I did not have an easy leadership. My lives ceremony was interrupted by the dark forest cats. Cats with dark hearts, looking to wipe SummerClan out entirely. They cursed me with a dark life, and in the end... it drove me mad. I was not myself for so long, even up until my death came. I drove SummerClan through hard times, and my clan mistrusted me. With great reason...” Her eyes shifted away for a moment, shame clearly pooling from her. Then she met the cat’s eyes once more,”I pray that you never have to go through what I did. To know that you are not yourself, and are only dooming your clan...”
“With this life, I give you hardship. You must know how to handle the hardships when you make mistakes, and suddenly your clan mistrusts you. You must never let another influence your decisions, and must know the hardship of living sometimes... without friends. Without family.” Turtlestar’s life went a little deeper than some, and it became clear by the look in her eyes that she was giving a life that was more of a curse than a blessing.
“You will learn from this.” She leaned forward and touched the cat’s forehead, a surge of light piercing the area, and her own memories flowing into Ravenstone, forcing the warrior to live them, as if she herself were Turtlestar. It would give her an unimaginable pain, and heart break, knowing how hard it was to control herself when something else compelled her to do dark things.

Ravenstone had sensed the change in the air. It was not filled with peace or excitement anymore, but rather there was almost a tangible tensity and electricity around her that caused her to shudder. Whether it was fear or anticipation she couldn't say but she looked upon Turtlestar with caution in her grey eyes. As she spoke, fear crept through her. Was this normal? She had been told that these lives would be gifts and blessings from Starclan to help aid her lead Summerclan but this was a curse and she felt every once of it as it entered her body. The pain was so much more fierce and intense than anything she had ever experienced. Many memories and images flashed through her mind so fast she could barely catch on to what was happening in them. The black she-cat crouched as it continued and she struggled to fight the pain coursing within her when, finally, it dissipated.
"Why?" She asked, looking up at the past leader with horror in her eyes. What would this mean for her? For Summerclan? It couldn't be good, that much she was sure of.
The tom that walked forward was faded like thin clouds on a clear blue sky. On one half of his body he looked to be a dashing blond tom with crystalline blue eyes, but as he faced Ravenstone completely she could see the grotesque nature of how he died. His eyeball was hanging on by the socket, the skin loose enough that one small breeze could snap it off. He let out a cough that made the loose eyeball blink. It was one of those moments where the sound could be heard before the disturbance. The sound of sludge spilling from his neck and onto the grass. A thick wound hung over his neck like a noose and she could see the black inky realm that swirled inside of the toms body, it was like he was made of internally.
"I am Commissioner Ashley, what you would call a deputy. My life was cut short when I died protecting my love, she was what you would call a medicine cat. For if you are willing to die for someone, you surely will. It is why you are being given nine lives for such a fate. So in a way... My life to you is a promise that all nine lives will be used up, but only in the most loving of ways. With this life I give you eternal love, let it not burn in you like a flame, but instead sink like ice in your veins. Let it be like ice caps where if your love were to melt it would devastate the whole world."
There was nothing. No pain, no warmth, there was no feeling. It was like she hadn't received a life at all.
Ashley leaned in close and whispered in her ear, the frost that came from his breath visible as he spoke, "Be very careful when you lose this wife, because darling it hurts when you lose eternal love."
Ravenstone could feel the cold spread throughout her entire body until it dissolved into a frosty numbness and then nothing again.
Ashley stepped back, his head craned distantly in another direction, longingly staring at something else that Ravenstone could not see.

She was surprised as her last life was abruptly cut short and her attention was drawn towards the blonde tom with a more shocking appearance than she had initially expected. It was truly a gruesome and unusual sight. What cruel life had this tom lived to be cursed with such an appearance even in death, forever to be accompanied with an eye that didn't quite sit right and his side slick and gooey with the remnants of death.
She shivered as he leaned forward and whispered in her ear, there was something extra chilling about the fact that she had felt absolutely nothing when receiving this life in comparison to the others along with his warning. It was clear he was no cat of Starclan and so she was left with more questions than answers, mouth agape with shock. What was happening? Wasn't she supposed to receive gifts of life from Starclan to help her clan? Was this their way of cursing her? She could not know for sure and her mind was spinning with shock, rendering her unable to speak and ask him her biggest question - why?

Like a breath of fresh air against the two previous lives, a chestnut-colored tom stepped forward. His coat was short with sprays of white here and there and full of starlight. His airy blue eyes were full of warmth and rest as he stepped towards the leader. He was tall and graceful, like an elk, and behind him was a much smaller she-cat with a shimmering smile. It was clear the two cats were siblings, but one only made it to an apprentice before she died. He motioned for the smaller cat to remain where she was and strode towards Ravenstar with a soft, friendly smile on his muzzle.
"Greetings. My name is Onelight. Not long before you were born, I was a proud warrior of Summerclan. My sister, Sweetpaw, and I were adopted into the clan as kits after escaping from rogues. I will always be grateful for the clan's acceptance of us." He started, glancing back at all of the cats assembled. "Now, as you have heard, in this life there will be hard times and trouble. You will have to stand strong when the rest of the clan cannot find the light. With this life, I give you resilience. May you always lift your head against the shadows and find that inner strength to carry on. Remember, we will be here to guide you."
He leaned forward and touched his nose to her head. The life that he gave brought the feeling of triumph. In it, she would be able to feel the hardship that he and the blind Sweetpaw went through as they grew up in the clan. Not only that, but she would feel that inner push to keep going. It was uplifting, yet left the stinging feeling of dried tears. The tears served as proof that the hardship was there, but the fact that you overcame it.
Onelight gave her a small wink after she received the life, and it was followed by a cheery giggle from Sweetpaw. He stepped back into the cluster of cats and waited for the last life to be given.

The feeling of triumph and soaring spirits helped quench the fear and anxiety that had gripped her after the previous two lives, even if for just a brief moment as the life washed over her body. It was certainly a breath of fresh air and her airways seemed to clear again and allowed her to reassess the situation around her. The jet black she-cat's grey eyes followed Onelight as he stepped back and she understood the place in which he came from. She had not been born to Summerclan and she remembered vividly the deaths of her mother and father and often relieved those moments in her dreams. Summerclan had taken her in and had been very warm and welcoming and raised her to be the warm cat and future leader that stood before Starclan today.
"Thank you." She whispered gently, dipping her head towards both him and Sweetpaw.
