Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Eternalstar slipped into the medicine cats den on soft paws, seeing no one within and letting some of the hidden tension within her shoulders slip away. She knew if she had seen any patients within she would have had to bite her tongue to keep herself from shooing them away. Upon her return to Springclan she had observed Fawnheart treating a cat with a thorn in his paw and felt the medicine cat was too coddling. Felt the soft, pretty she-cat babied those under her care a little to much. They needed to be healed, they did not need the medicine cat essentially cooing at them. It was what she was here to talk about after all.
"I wanted to talk about how you treat your patients." Eternalstar drawled, mismatched eyes turning intently to the medicine cat. Her tone was placid but her eyes were not, they warned the other that the following conversation might be unpleasant and filled with frustration from both sides.
"Well frankly, I think you coddle them." Eternalstar responded, wanting to get straight to the point and seeing no reason to dance around the topic. She still made her tone soft though, trying to take the edge of accusation away. "I worry that they might take advantage of your generosity and stay within your care longer than they might truly need too."
Fawnheart remained calm, "I have always treated my patients this way. And so did my mentor, Kinkedwing. If they need longer care, then so be it. My job is to heal them."
"Yes not to coddle them. You can heal them without babying them." Eternalstar pointed out, raising a brow at the medicine cat. "And just because the cat before you did it does not mean they were correct. I think Peachblush's actions as leader before me are proof enough of that."
Fawnheart looked at Eternalstar as if she had gone crazy. "Eternalstar, with all do respect, let me do my job. /I/ was chosen to be medicine cat because they thought I would be the best candidate for the job. I will not change how I treat my patients." The fur on her shoulders began to bristle slightly.
"Sometimes judgements can be marred." Eternalstar countered before shaking her head. "We have gotten of topic. I'm not saying you're not a good medicine cat. You know what you're doing and you do it well. I'm simply asking that you treat my warriors as they are; warriors."
She laid her fur flat but frustration still burned up inside her, "it is better to treat them accordingly based on their injury. If a warrior steps on a thorn, I will treat them and send them on their way. But if a cat comes down with green cough, I have to choice but to be soothing. That is the best for a full recovery. You cant push a sick cat. They will never recover."
"Alright lets talk about something else then, if you won't budge on this." Eternalstar sighed. "How is Whitepaw's training going? I was talking to Softpelt and she mentioned she gathers herbs for you at times. Why have an apprentice if you aren't going to utilize him fully. I'm sure leaving him stagnant like that will leave him in an awkward position; there are already those in the clan that doubt his position. His father among them may I remind you."
Fawnheart burned even more inside with anger but her cool composure gave nothing away. "Must I remind you that we were imprisoned for over a moon? I had nothing to work with. He is a little behind on his training but right now Im teaching him his herbs. Which is used for what."
Eternalstar stared at Fawnheart and let out a large sigh, as if the medicine cat was inconveniencing her even more. "You understand I just worry? For him and for you as well?" Shaking her head the brown and white tabby shifted on her paws as if unsure or uneasy. "I worry for us. It's because we were imprisoned for a moon I worry. There are rumors that Moonclan has fallen victim to the pride now. What if they come back for us?" That should her ease the other she-cat, expressing vulnerability; the medicine cat seemed to love that.
The scoff Eternalstar let out was disparaging and just a tinge disgusted. "That is what the weak say when they want to shore up some sort of defense against their own inadequacy." Realizing she had let slip some of her true thoughts and feelings she realized that she couldn't pretend with Fawnheart any longer. "I don't wish for us to become something new, not like Brookclan, nor do I think I should make new positions like perhaps Nightclan. I think we have to change our way of thinking... our way of living. That requires us to start with the smallest things and work outward; small things like how you treat my warriors."
"And how would you think that would turn out?" She looked back at her leader, her voice calm. "I'm sure you have seen the way Foxstar leads her clan. She is hard on her warriors and yet, she has lost many battles...and have gained many enemies."
"She has also won many battles and her clan is feared among the rest of us." Eternalstar countered. "I don't need to fight battles, I won't have to fight them if I managed to make us such a reputation that even a fight with us is feared. But to do this I have to turn us around."
"This is why I don't think we will ever agree." Eternalstar sighed suddenly seeming to give up. It was this moment that spurred her thoughts towards alternatives to her medicine cat. As she wondered if Fawnheart would ever let her die, if simply because she felt it was the right choice. Her eyes cut to the other she-cat and she measured her for a long silent moment. "Do as you will Fawnheart. You know better as you say." With that spiteful parting comment she slipped away.
The peace that was gained from her departure didn't last long though, a small shape slipping into the den after her mothers shape was out of sight. Effluentpaw's wide eyes turned to Fawnheart and then back towards where her mother left. "Was she talking about me?" She asked in slight anxiety, wondering if her mother had found out yet.
"No, dear. She wasn't. Is there something I can do for you?" Fawnheart asked sweetly as if Nothing had happened though her leader's parting words stung.
