Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Ottermystique tilted her head towards the sun, her eyes squinting slightly. Despite the brutal cold, everything seemed particularly bright today. Perhaps that was a good sign, a sign that thing would shape up. StarClan had sent several signs in the last few days. Of course, the she-cat didn't think that this change would be immediate. No change ever was. Yet, for the first time since Sandtail had died, she felt hope rise in her chest.
Ottermystique considered this as she continued her trek through the camp towards the leader's den. It was odd to think that her sister-in-law now owned the den, but, afterall, it was she who saw the violet. There was no denial that it was meant to be from the brown she-cat. "Violete-," she started, before cursing under her breathe at the mistake. "Violetstar. Are you in there?"
It was often she found herself thinking upon the painful memories of the past few moons. Loosing Sandtail had been hard, but loosing his daughter had been even harder. Her eyes were closed as she remembered he lifeless kitten she had named Lavenderkit. Her breath suddenly caught in her chest as she remembered the lives that were given to her from the both of them. Her claws slid out, scraping the hard rock as she tried to keep the world from spinning.
Suddenly a voice broke through her memories.
“Yes.” She straightened, trying to wipe the hurt from her features.
This may or may not have been an invitation to enter the den, but Ottermystique had a tendency of doing what she wanted anyways. Her sleek body slid in, and she took a seat immediately once her body had entered it. It was odd, being in this den in particular. She had never imagined that she would be in it. After all, it wasn't like she had been particularly close to any leaer, nor had she expected to be.
"You alright? You haven't come out since you got back 'n I was worried. Did the ceremony go alright?" She left little time to answer the actual questions, but that was just another quirk of the cat; she wasn't good at focusing at one thing at once.
She watched as the warrior made her way into the den. She pushed herself in a seated position and straightened. As much as she wanted to confide in her friend, she knew she couldn’t. The leader’s ceremony was sacred and she was not allowed to tell the details. Violetstar gazed at Ottermystique, her eyes glazed slightly. She reminded her of Sandtail. “Yes, it went just as we all hoped it would. I received my lives and am the rightful leader of WaterClan.”
There was a relief that flooded into her eyes. "Good," was all she could muster for a moment as she let out a sigh that seemed to lift ten pounds of weight off of her shoulders. Although she had been quite positive of the sign and what it meant, there had been a small voice in her head that had wondered if she was incorrect. After all, she was no medicine cat, nor a leader. She wasn't the cat who would normally get an omen from StarClan. "When you didn't come out, I had worried that things might have..." Her voice trailed.
"Not that I don't expect that if anyone can put the pieces of this mess back together, it's you." Her clarification was genuine, and Violetstar would have known by this point had it not been. "I have faith in you, kiddo." She smiled, before flicking her ear.
"I uh probably should have brought food with me, but..." Her voice trailed again. Violetstar already knew the situation; it wasn't worth reiterating. "But I didn't, so there's that." She laughed a bit, before sighing. "Is that what I'm supposed to do, now that you're leader? Bring you food and bow every time you walk by?"
Violetstar gazed at her friend. They’d been through so much together, more than she would have ever wished to go through with any cat. It was amazing she was still smiling and carrying on. A small sigh, and then a slight laugh. “I am more than capable to get my own prey, but thank you. You needent treat me any differently than the rest. I am still the same cat as I was before, two nights prior.” She reminded Ottermystique.
Ottermystique let out a grin. "You know, you say that now, but in about two weeks time when you're busy running this joint, you might have wished you hadn't," she teased gently. She hoped that Violetstar was right, though, and that nothing would change that hadn't already changed. She would understand and accept it if it did, but she wouldn't like it much. Her friend was one of the only cats she had left.
"So, it doesn't feel any different now that you're top boss?"
She chuckled softly at her friend’s jokes. Her eyes giving a slight sparkle as she caught once more, the resemblance of her past lover. Ignoring the ache in her chest, she let her smile fade a bit before responding. “”I feel as if there is a large weight on my shoulders.” She admitted softly, eyes casting away from Ottermystique.
