With the recent suicide of her niece, Vera E'tani was tasked with something particularly difficult: selecting one of Xithymia's daughters to succeed her. Not only deciding which one would be competent enough to become the league's next healer, but to also then figure out how to train them. Vera had no formal medical training; anything she knew was offhand knowledge from watching her late sister, Raelynn, work. Now that the league was moved to the Isle, there was no chance of outsourcing a medicine cat from another clan to train them. For the time being, Primal Instinct had no healer. The Nemesis had, however, narrowed down the list of competitors to two: Ravenna-chan, and Sable-chan.
Her expression was one of stone as the bengal empress sat upon the rocky beach, watching the calm waters wash over the beach, the golden orb of the sun rising slowly over the horizon. It was an unforgettable sight, the serenity of the sunrise. The Isle wasn't a horrible place; not by any stretch of the imagination. But, they might never survive the journey back without someone trained in medical knowledge.
Vera E'tani waited, her posture devoid of patience.
Her paws barely made a sound as she moved silently upon the rocks. She couldn't remember the last time she had seen her mother clearly. The 'initiation' process that Xithymia had planned for her and her sisters had been excruciatingly long, and the last thing she could remember seeing her mother do. The tryouts were cut short by Hilo's passing; as it were, her father had not made it through the toxins, and now they both laid dead in their graves.
Ravenna was, by no means, an immature cat. She was young but she was able to pick up on things quickly. However, the death of her father and the subsequent suicide of her mother had left her shaking in her core. It was perhaps too psychological of a subject for Ravenna to grasp immediately, but she still could feel an empty void in her stomach were her childhood innocence once lay. And yet she kept asking herself why she cared as much as she did. Her father was a splendid cat, but Xithymia? The former Shaman wasn't abusive to her, but was so emotionally distant that half the time Reva felt like she was talking to a cat that was barely related to her. Her heart weighed heavily in her chest, her mind filling with thoughts that taunted her, told her she was pathetic for being so sensitive. It seemed that in Primal Instinct those who got too carried away with their emotions usually were dealt the bad cards.
The white cloaked bengal spotted Vera E'tani, the feline that summoned her and another she-cat, sitting by herself on the beath of the Isle. She approached her with only one emotion in her eyes; curiosity. The golden light of the sun caressed her slightly fuzzy fur as she curled her tail around her paws and sat on a rock near the water.
The shadow sneezed and rubbed her tiny nose. The black soot ball that sat off to the side was Sable-chan. The little fuzz ball with legs moved out from the darkness covered in more kitten fur than likely any cat in the leagues history. Traditionally cats with long fur like hers would mature into slick shimmery furred cats, but while she was a kitten she hardly possessed any features that even closely resembled her family members. The light pitter patter of her paw steps made her way over to the two before giggling nervously immediately followed by her shoulders rolling back with a serious this is important expression.
Her eyes looked powerful staring up at Vera E'tani. They seemed to blossom first with tangerine shades and finally blooming at the pupil to dark orange hues. If eyes truly were windows to the soul then hers were beautiful. She stood up a little taller at her mothers presence, but there was only so much she could do about that.
