The wood was dark, fog clung to the treetops above her. Kate limped, trying to ignore the pain that seared through her body. She'd been covered in wounds for moons now, and it was amazing she had managed to make it out alive. It.. had only been because of Snowblister.
The thought of the white ghosted beauty made her heart squeeze. She wouldn't see her again, she knew that. It felt like something had been torn out of her chest. Each visit, even though they had never been ideal, Kate had found herself looking forward to. She shook her head, trying to clear herself of the tormenting thoughts. Yet, that pain deep within her chest where her heart lay, it was ever present. I've lost her for good. Yet, she had saved Kate. Why? She had wondered, even as she walked into the territory she had missed... There was no relief.
Her green gaze was hallow as she struggled to go on, unsteady on her paws, breath gasping. There was still open wounds along her body. A deep scratch along her left shoulder, several ones along her face, ears, chest. Other parts of her body were patchy from areas that had once been wounded and were scarring over. She could only hope her fur would soon return.
All in all, Kate was small and malnourished, littered with wounds, and pathetic looking really. Though one wouldn't dare say it, lest she turn into the fire she had been known as. Regardless, she had been a prisoner for moons.
Not anymore. Thanks to Snowblister.

"Wow, Primal Instinct has really gone down hill," came the lazy drawl of a voice from the trees. "Here I thought I was going to have to fight for my keep. Ah, well. Better that way, I guess." A smile crossed the face of the cat as she sent herself to the floor below, landing with a soft thump a few tail lengths away. Her whiskers twitched in amusement; it was no surprise to the cats that knew her that she was being a little antagonistic. It was part of her MO - an almost detachment from reality that left her unafraid of conflict. Not that she thought this would be a conflict - the cat in front of her looked like hell, and if nothing else, Kaya was in good shape. There was not a single fur that was out of place, and her body was strong and muscular, a frame she had inherrited from her father. Her other inheritance from the tom was her eyes, the genetic, baby blues that marked her place in a long lineage of cats.
"You wouldn't happen to be someone who knows the current clan roster, would ya? I'm sort of looking for someone," she meowed, anticipating the question with an easy smile and a casualness about her that could only be found in cats who were familiar with the sinister forest that Primal Instinct called its home. "The little bugger has been quite difficult for me to locate, but my trail runs dead here, so if he's not, well, I guess I'm out of luck."
She let out a soft laugh, before straightening. "Oh, your probably wondering who I am. Silly me," she shook her head at herself. "I just get so ahead of myself sometimes. The name's Kaya," she meowed with a dip of her head, the smile not leaving her face. "I lived here a while ago, born and raised, really. You're much too young to remember me, though. I am getting up in my moons." There was an eerieness to her openness; it implicitly proclaimed her utter confidence that she had control over the situation (even if, perhaps, she didn't). Her eyes then got wide. "Not that old, though. Don't want you to think I'm some senior citizen or something. Gods, between you and me, if I live that long, I hope someone just does me a favor and puts me down." Kaya tipped her head, those ever familiar blue eyes settling on Kate. If only she knew what can of worms she was in the process of opening...

Kate spun around, attempting to keep her footing. With the limp she had, she almost fell over. She gritted her teeth in irritation at her body's response, fire spreading along her hind leg as she turned to face the cat who spoke. Her green eyes narrowed as this cat spoke, taking in the body language. It was clear she was in no condition to be fighting, and this cat obviously knew that as well. Otherwise she couldn't have imagined she would have paraded in here without being somewhat wary of who she was speaking to. The bobtailed cat remained quiet until this stranger finished speaking. Kate didn't recognize her, not a single bit. Except... the eyes.
Something gave a sharp jolt in her mind, her heart fluttering in confusion. It displayed along her facial features, but only for a moment before she let her face reside back to nothingness.
"What do you want?" She'd get straight to the point, instead of beating around the bush like this Kaya was doing. She'd been gone for over a season, and the only thing Kate wanted to do was curl back into her nest back at home. Back in Primal Instinct territory, where she could at least rest for one night without worrying of Eris or Kier beating the life from her. This cat was admittedly, getting in the way of that. She wanted to be rid of her as fast as possible.
"Hurry up." She snapped, a hiss flitting between her gritted teeth. "I'm growing impatient with your rambling."
Somewhere, a bird gave a sharp tweet, the wind cutting through their coats.

Kaya's eyes lit up with amusement. "Aww, you're no fun. I guess I should have expected that, you look like you haven't seen fun in moons. You should probably bind your paw, by the way. A stick and cobwebs would probably be the best bet, unless you think it's broken. If its broken, well that's an entirely different story. Say, is your shaman dead or something? Ain't no reason she hasn't taken a closer look at you if she's not, you're clearly in need of... something."
Kaya tipped her head, before letting out a sigh. "Like I said," she meowed, voice not annoyed but entertained, "I need a recent clan roster. Daddy's missed a few child support payments, and boy is Mama pissed off about it." She couldn't help but let out a laugh, her tail flicking back and forth. It was only a half-lie, her father did nearly abandon her mother, but her mother was dead now, and corpses were rarely angry in her experiences. "Right, right, a name would probably be helpful. Last I knew, he still went by his given name, but he did fake his death when he left Primal Instinct the first time, so maybe he wouldn't still go by his given name." She seemed to ponder that thought for a moment. "Harley's all I've got, though. He was a blue guy, baby blue eyes like yours truly. Bout ye tall," she meowed, her tail waving in the air. "Last I knew he was a hot mess, like really, truly, the man had a psychotic breakdown type of hot mess, so maybe that'll help? Do ya know him?"

Kate only felt a burning irritation as Kaya continued speaking. Her bobbed tail flicked back and fourth impatiently. Kate felt a low growl settle in chest. Her patience was running dangerously thin. Kate seemed to hardly be listening to whatever rambling that Kaya was going on about. Her eyes had narrowed to fine slits, lip twitching.
Then she felt her entire body change. Everything went hot, her body on fire and her heart rate quickening in her ears. Kate's teeth ground together so hard she tasted metallic. There was a silence that followed and the air was still. The eerie seconds that passed before a reaction came from Kate could almost feel like she'd frozen in time. Then the world exploded, at least, that's how all this seemed in Kate's mind.
She exhaled slowly before speaking.
"That's my father."
It had taken Kate some time to process this of course. Here came a cat she didn't know annoying her to no end, and suddenly this cat was her... sister? Or was she? Though, her eyes told it all. Kate had noticed them immediately, and now it made sense to her. The eyes had been so familiar, yet she hadn't been able to place them. Had it really been that long since the last time she had seen her father?
Regret slammed into her heart like a twisting claw. Kate did her best to keep her father out of her mind, as it only brought a million mixed emotions onto her at once. Ones that Kate struggled to keep hold of and got wild and out of hand. One could even see this as a weakness.

"Oh, no way! Fascinating," Kaya purred, sounding absolutely thrilled. Now, this was going to be an interesting interaction. "I had heard that he had another litter, but I guess I didn't believe it." There was a grin plastered on her face, slightly crooked but with glintingly sharp teeth all the same. Kaya had come to Primal Instinct to find her father, and she stumbled on her family instead. How cute.
"Well, in that case, sis, have you seen pops recently?" There was a sort of expectant tone in her voice, as if the fact that they had suddenly found out they were related really meant anything. She was relatively confident it didn't; she had never been much of a family girl, not after Harley had left. They were often times an ... unneccessary complication, a lesson she had learned a little too well. But, the circumstances were different than they had in the proceeding moons, and who knew, maybe a little family camraderie would prove helpful, should she decide to stay in Primal Instinct. If Harley was there, she had figured she probably would; she was quite certain that he'd approve of how she turned out. (Although, unbeknownst to her, Harley had stabilized in the last few moons of his life. He probably wouldn't have cared much for her in his later years. Perhaps that was an important difference between the two cats staring at each other. Kaya was the result of the Harley who had been reckless and moody, violent and charming, young and seemingly invincible. By the time Kate was born, Harley had mostly given up the wild freedom of his youth, and once he has effectively become a single father, he had had to finish growing up. The two sisters were of two eras.) Having an ally in this cat - her blood ? - might be useful as she readjusted to Primal Instinct life. If it was anything like it was in her youth, having an extra set of eyes was always good. But, by the look that had been in Kates eye up until she had mentioned Harley's name, Kaya could only assume that ship might have sailed.
"If you're here, I figure he's here too, right?" There was a soft hope in her voice; she was oh so close. Realizing that made her sound emotional, she quickly straightened. "Or did he get himself into some far-fetched convoluted trouble that made him need to make a quick exit from your life, too?" She followed with a laugh, but it sounded every so slightly forced.

Her sharp green eyes focused now on Kaya. Something confusing was happening inside. Emotions whirled inside her like a wind, raging and hot. Her teeth bared together as she tried to make sense of it, but her vision was red and her claws flexed in the earth below her. Kate felt her lip twitch as her ears angled towards Kaya, her supposed sister. "Kier killed him." She hissed, though her voice seemed dangerously low. The mention of her littermate made her neck furs prickle. No cat knew where he had ran off to with his sickening mate. She'd vowed to hunt him down and slit his throat, but first...
She wanted to rip Kaya apart. She didn't know why, but seeing her and hearing the way she spoke set her temper ablaze. Nothing about her looked friendly right now, and this was not something she tried to hide. "I don't really care who you are, just get out of my way. I have things to handle, and you're holding me up. So if you're planning on joining or whatever, then come on. I'm tired of wasting my time here with someone insignificant." With that she turned, trying not to limp, and started back towards the camp.

There was a moment when Kaya just stared blankly at Kate, a million emotions swirling in her baby blue gaze. Harley was... dead? "That explains why he was so hard to find," she muttered. Dead cats often were. Dead. She'd dealt with his death before, but this time, there was a stronger finality to it. Judging by the look on Kate's face, his second death was far more ... real than his staged first. She felt a pang of remorse deep in her chest, but tried to keep it from registering in her face. She'd have to mourn, but at a later date. Right now was not the time, and for once in her life, she was going to respect that there was a time and place for everything.
"And anyways, who the hell is Kier?" This time, there was a darkness in her own voice, too. Kaya was a warlord, one who enjoyed a good bloodshed as much as the next cat, and the look in her eyes suggested that just as she had tracked down her father, she would consider tracking down his murderer.
"Also, don't get too ahead of yourself. Insignificant? You'll see that that's hardly the case." Her words were a promise, met only by a flick of her tail. Kaya was anything but insignificant; she was a force to be reckoned with; their father had made sure of that. "But, fine, whatever. We'll play it your way, only because I'm quite certain that you're in no shape to play it mine." Although she offered another laugh, the bothered tone never left her voice. Harley was dead. Harley was dead. Anger, sadness, and plain fury underscored every word, even when she tried to sound as unbothered as possible. She let out a sigh, before following her, her own steps purposeful.
"How long ago did it happen?" She asked after a moment of silence befell the two as they walked to camp. She'd been looking for him for moons, first at that god foresaken barn, and now here. How late was she?
