She scrambled higher up the tree to the highest branch she could reach. Then, gingerly, she stepped out onto the limb. One paw then another, her weight slowly transitioned until she was sure the steady bough could hold her; then she darted along to the thin edge and peered down through the trees. Sure enough, heading down from the large lake to the north, was a strange, massive creature that walked on two legs and had barely a speck of fur on it. Otterpaw had only heard tales of the twolegs before, but a thrilled raced down her spine now to see one so close.
