Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
The night air felt thick and eerie when it met Ratsneer. There was a heaviness to it all; the air, the atmosphere, the overall vibe of those around him. If it weren't so horribly drawn out it would be a good thing.
Surely everyone knew things were about to go south. Even he could feel it, of all cats. The normal bickering and fight for power surrounding him felt more desperate than ever before, there was a new fear wafting around that didn't feel so comfortable, like no one knew exactly what was about to happen but they knew something was going to happen. It wasn't the usual douchebag bullying and tantrums, it was something deeper than that. Quite frankly he felt it was something he has been waiting for.
It wasn't to say that he didn't enjoy getting to intimidate those around him; no, he liked that quite a bit. But to feel the rush of not knowing. Not knowing how many would die, who they would be, or when. There was just something irresistible about that. To be able to rush into a crowd of writhing cats and truly be at the liberty to do whatever you liked. Ratsneer knew he could handle himself in these situations, knew that he thrived in them, embodied what it stood for. The bloodlust that festered behind it all. So selfish. So desirable.
His reverie hadn't brought him far. Being so deep in thought left him barely walking at all, simply meandering along as he daydreamed of what was to come, what he longed for.
excuse me while i try to actually figure out this character <33
Caterpillarpaw could sense the unease, they could feel it in the air like a suffocating blanket had been laid over the entirety of Nightclan, but they tried to ignore it. They tried to get a close look at the captives from the League, one amongst many who attempted to peer in and goggle at them as though they were an attraction at a zoo — it was clear what the next step was, because everybody knew how important these kits were (kits? Caterpillarpaw had thought, because they were bigger, taller, possibly older, than themselves). They were among the youngest of the apprentices, promoted early simply out of negligence than anything, and they couldn't say they minded — apprenticeship beat having to deal with their rather harsh, rude nursemaid who had only taken the position to begin with because it had been pushed upon her. Often, she was harsh, angry, bitter.
For the most part, they minded their business, kept to themselves, but they weren't cold in that sense — they talked when they could, they seemed bright and chipper and stupid. They didn't mind not being in control, and they didn't ignite violence to have it, because they were content with letting other forces pull them in whatever direction was best, but it just so happened that the direction they followed wasn't welcomed in Nightclan any longer. To the clan, Starclan was dead, gone, but they kept the idea of them in the back of their mind, tried to piece together what they had heard of them to create something of a correct moral code to follow, and they knew enough to know that the correct moral code was the opposite of whatever Nightclan's, and so they settled to follow that instead. But something still felt like it was missing, because they felt they should fear the violence more, should be more opposed instead of so passive about it.
It seemed both Ratsneer and Caterpillarpaw were lost in their heads, and it seemed that it was quite the common occurrence for them both. They ran into him, face colliding with his chest before they staggered back, staring up at the much larger tom with a wide-eyed, anxious look. Everybody knew Ratsneer was not above petty violence, and everybody knew just how viscous he was. "Sorry," they said hastily, "sorry, I —" They cut themselves off with the clamping of their jaw to stop themselves from rambling.
Ratsneer hadn't even realized there was anyone around him until Caterpillerpaw collided directly into him. It quickly snapped him back into the present world and a growl bubbled in his chest as he came to a halt and looked at the culprit. Of course, Ratsneer was just as at fault as they were, he had been paying no attention to his surroundings when they met, but he didn't quite see it that way. No, the apprentice should have stayed clear out of his path. A nasty snarl formed on his face as he looked at Caterpillarpaw, blood seeming to tingle, and he raised a large paw, fully prepared to swipe them, send them tumbling to the ground as he stood over them with malice pouring from him.
"You really should keep yourself out of my path," It came out forced, between clenched teeth, and he knew he was the image of an unhinged, pent up madman. It was fitting.
You really should keep yourself out of my path. Caterpillarpaw gave a quiet, nervous titter and a wobbly, nervous smile, daring to look up at Ratsneer, though the angry fire in his eyes made them look away. When he raised a paw, prepped to strike, they skittered back, half tripping over themselves in an attempt to distance themselves from the angry tom. Everybody knew to steer clear of him, he was brooding and violent and mean, he spat venom, he was always looking for a reason to flex his claws, and nobody wanted to be in the way when he got too restless, too annoyed. Among the Inferiors, cats like Caterpillarpaw and Duskhaunting and Leveretlimp, the small apprentice that had been thrown into his claws at the trial was a consistent, looming reminder. The way he tore into them was awe-inspiring for the upper classes and terrifying for anyone below.
"Sorry — I said sorry." They stopped out of reach of his outstretched paw, looking up but not meeting his eyes. "If you don't have to use that," they nodded towards his paw with another nervous laugh, "then I will make sure to keep that in mind! Really, hah, I, uh, should pay attention more, you're right!" They didn't mention that Ratsneer hadn't been paying attention either — it would only escalate things, it would only make it worse, it would only anger him more because Caterpillarpaw was in no position to disrespect him.
