Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
This was certainly not a date. Absolutely in no way was it a date, even if he'd heard Sunrisepaw gossiping that it was as he exited camp. Aww, look at him, he looks so handsome, his younger cousin had teased just loud enough that he'd hear as he passed her. I told you he was meeting his someone special . Foxstar had opted to mostly ignore this, although he did shoot her one, single, pleading glare. He'd then carried on and made his way to the rocks just southwest of the North Sea. It was a generally quiet location, one where they would have some privacy, just like if it was a date. It wasn't a date! Their time together would have two purposes. First, he wanted to check in with her. Since his promotion, the amount of time they could spend with each other truly alone had significantly decreased. It wasn't that they weren't often with each other - their busy schedules often overlapped - it was just that there was almost always at least one other cat with them. Having some time, just Sunveins and he, would be good. It was easier to talk when it was just the two of them, and it would be good to spend quality time with her. He also, fortunately for plausible deniability but unfortunately for the two of them, also had a business-related affair to talk to her about. Radiantcosmo was gone, just like Sunstar, off on her own journey. Once again, it was just the two of them - or, the three of them, if you counted Cypresspaw - kids running a clan. (It was ironic that the stepping down of his deputy was his second priority, but he chose to ignore that irony.)
He'd arrived a bit earlier than he had told her to meet him there, and had spent the little bit of time he had making the rocks look a little more... homey than they normally did. (It was totally normal that he wanted a good atmosphere for he and his best friend!) He'd brought a fish to share if she was hungry, and once he was satisfied that the location was presentable, he relaxed into a seated position.

It had been a while since Sunveins had seen Foxstar on his own. It felt like moons since they had talked so casually like the night under the stars; things had been busy since. There were so many things to be doing, and she had found herself a little lost in her responsibilities. In a way, she was almost glad that Foxstar had requested her presence. On one hand, she had wondered whether this was something fun, or whether something was wrong.
With Radiantcosmos gone already, Sunveins was concerned about the tom. Was he stressed out about it? Would this somehow affect his health? She was a little nervous, but there was a part of her that hoped this wasn't about anything serious, that she'd have some time to just relax with her best friend again. They were just two kids, thrown into responsibilities that were meant for older cats. Pretending to be adults, really.
As she appeared from the bracken, her eyes drifted along the rocks, before spotting the ginger tom with a bright-eyed look. She immediately waved at him with a smile on her face. "Foxstar!" she greeted with a purr, eyes drifting along his form as if he could tell whether this was a business talk or something else. Everything looked...nice actually. The fish at his paws made her smile. She might not like the ocean at all, but fish was a good meal. Her chest felt warm at the thought.
"Sorry I'm late," she chuckled sheepishly, "how are you? I feel like we haven't seen each other in forever...at least, outside of the camp, you know?"
"Sunveins!" he greeted, a large, lopsidded grin crossing his face. As soon as she arrived, Foxstar let out a soft purr. He couldn't help it, really. Sunveins lit up any space they occupied together. "Late schmate," he meowed with a chuckle. "A guy like me's just lucky that you're willing to carve out some time for him." He nudged her shoulder playfully before offering a nod. "Kinda sucks, if we're being honest," he admitted with a slight frown. "-which is why we're gonna have a really good time today. Gotta enjoy every second of it, right?" There was an eagerness in his voice, although he was pretty sure he would enjoy every second with her even if they had a time that was, objectively, not good. They could be abducted by aliens and as long as they were together, he would be happy.
(That was totally a friend thought!)
When she asked him how he had been, he offered a shrug. "Oh, you know how it goes. Things get normal and I adjust and then suddenly normal changes again. I'm sort of used to the bit at this point." He let out an awkward chuckle, before blinking. "Really, though, I've been okay." Foxstar wasn't sure that he wasn't lying. "And you? How have you been?"

She laughed, feeling a little embarrassed for how time seemed to slip away from her. He was right, they were just so busy recently that they barely had the time to talk. She missed it, missed having every opportunity to just be young again, to live a life with less responsibility, less chaos...it wasn't to say she didn't enjoy being a medicine cat, but sometimes, the pressure of keeping an entire clan safe and healthy felt like a lot. She missed this. She missed this a lot.
"Yeah," she gave him a smile, her eyes crinkled in a look, as if she couldn't stop grinning at just how perfect it was, that in a way, the two of them were on the same page. It was perhaps one of the best things about working with her best friend, that they just instinctively knew each other...in a platonic way, right? Sunveins felt her cheeks turn pink at the sudden thought of what things might've been if they weren't just platonic best friends. Oh, she was glad Foxstar couldn't read her thoughts; it'd be embarrassing to admit any of that out loud.
"I've been okay," she replied softly, as she padded over and sat down, wrapping her tail by her paws, "I mean, this summer's been cooler than usual, so we haven't had too many herbs dry out. It's been a good harvest, Cypresspaw's been helping me grab herbs almost ever day, I think I tire the poor kid out." It was clear she was very fond of her apprentice. She glanced upwards to Foxstar, nudging his chin with her nose. "How have you been, seriously? Don't act like I don't know you well enough to notice you've been sleeping less."
He nodded along as she spoke, his tail twitching at the tip. "I've been quite surprised, really. It's my first summer here, and, well, for being SummerClan..." He grinned as he trailed off. "It's good to hear that it's made your life easier, though. And, anyways, it's good for him," he meowed with a hint of amusement in his voice. Foxstar had always been fond of Cypresspaw, right from the first day they met and he had used the few skills he had learned from Ahava to bind his foot. He was a sweet cat, and his slight awkwardness put him right at home with the leader. "Builds character." He couldn't help but laugh this time, a soft noise that was slightly higher than one would expect out of a tom.
When she nudged him, he felt a rush of warmth spread through him. He let out a soft sigh, leaning into her slightly for a moment. "What, have you got eyes on the back of your head now? I thought I was getting more careful about my late night strolls," he meowed. He should have known, though, that Sunveins would catch wind of his excursions, though. No matter what, it seemed like she always did.
"Alright, alright, you caught me," he then meowed, a slight sheepishness. "Ever since we found those kittens," he frowned slightly at the memory of the festival being disrupted, "something's been... off. I've been having nightmares again," he admitted, his gaze shifting off into the distance. Although he managed himself better than some of his peers (he thought of the absence behind Eveninglily's eyes that would never go away), the last year of his life had been traumatizing, and they were coming up on the aniversary of what started it all. "I'm sure everything will be fine, I just..." his voice trailed off again. "I'm okay, I promise."

She laughed, nodding in agreement. They had been keeping the clan together for a while now, and after Radiantcosmos' disappearance, it felt more and more evident that the clan was kept together by warriors that were barely older than the apprentices that stood with their chests puffed out. Sure, it had been a while now since she had been the medicine cat, but frankly, she still felt new to this position as if she had just been promoted yesterday. Being a mentor to Cypresspaw felt like being a parent to a cat the same age as her; she had no idea what it was like to be a mentor. She was just grateful he hadn't said anything yet.
Her worried gaze never left his, despite it softening with empathy. She knew exactly what he was talking about. The event. The invasion. The thought of it still made the fur of her tail puff out. It was something she hoped would never happen again, and yet the thought that anything could happen despite her efforts always held that seed of hopelessness that threatened to bud. Her forehead nudged his chin again. "It's okay to not feel okay about it," she reminded him gently, "no one expects you to ignore everything that happened...I think out of all of us, you were hit the hardest, you know? I can't imagine if..." she hesitated, before changing her mind, "everyone feels for you, Foxstar. Any of us would be more than upset about it."
Her eyes met his again, a soft look in them. "I'm always here," she murmured quietly, "even if you just need someone to talk to."
Gradually, Foxstar had added supporting staff that made the weight of the world less strongly forced on the three of their shoulders. Brin, his new soldier general, the pirate who provided some regiment to their otherwise wayward group. Charcaolgoat, but he was mostly confined to the nursery. Still, the three of them had had to grow up fast in the last few moons. There was a small part of him that resented it, only a tiny bit. He wanted to be lounging on a beach somewhere, a Sherlie Temple in his paw, not a care in the world. He wanted to be a kid who could still do kid things. But, he wasn't. He was anything but that, really; the moons of illness, premature responsibility, pain, by now, whether he was ready to be or not, he was an adult.
He sighed, regaining control of his drifting thoughts as she responded to him. As she spoke, he tensed slightly. He couldn't help but think that her words were not exactly true. Many sympathized with him, sure. But there were still some.... NightClan sympathizer! Traitor! Turncoat! Plant! Not everyone wanted to give him a chance, wanted to extend any good will to him. Still, he didn't want to contradict her. She was trying to make him feel better, and in a lot of ways, she was. But his anxiety (realism?) still made him doubt. He sighed again.
"Thank you, I appreciate you," he meowed after a beat of silence. His voice sounded tired. "I know you are, and that's why I lo-" Foxstar immediately froze in his tracks, as if his brain processed a moment too late what his subconcious wanted him to say. His eyes widened slightly, before he let out an awkward chuckle - a high pitched, squeaky noise. "-ove spending time with you I know you've always got my back," he meowed, his words strewn together as fast as possible. Embarrassment lingered in his cheeks, a little too warm for his own liking.
He let out another one of those forced laughs, before taking a bite of the fish below them. As he chewed, he gestured to her. "You should really try some," he meowed, not recovering from what he almost said very well. "It's a new recipe, you've gotta let me know what you think."
