Silver paws landed lightly on a warm desert rock. Wolfpaw settled into place, tucking his bushy tail around his paws. The sun was warm against his pelt, and he couldn't help but close his eyes and turn his head up to it. Nature was truly amazing. Today was one of those days where he felt as if he didn't quite belong. He just needed to get away and find resolve for his thoughts just as he always did on these kind of days.
He just needed a little solace away from the rest of his clanmates to clear his head and choke out his self-doubt. He knew he was good enough and that this was the life that he wanted more than anything, but sometimes, he couldn't shake the unease about it all. He truly felt like he was free from his kittypet past, but he knew that it would never truly be gone in the minds of others.
Sometimes something his sisters would say would trigger him. Sometimes, as much as he hated to admit it, he did miss the easier lifestyle. He missed being petted, coddled, and brushed. However, he couldn't deny that the taste of fresh-kill was way better than the kibble his family had always kept to the brim of his bowl. It was the little things that he sometimes longed for. Sometimes he missed how he could perch at the top of his fence and converse casually with his sisters throughout the day. It had been too easy. All of it sickeningly easy.
Sitting out here like this reminded Wolfpaw just how much his heart was truly in this. Out here, he was answering the calls of his heart. He was free, wild, and roaming. Of all the things that he enjoyed about SunClan, today he longed for and sought after loneliness. He wanted silence so that he could hear the rustle of the desert sand. He wanted to take note of how the heat bounced around from surface to surface. He wanted to admire how life sprouted vibrantly in the oasis. Reconnecting with the nature that he had watched and longed for from his kittypet fence was the greatest medicine. Not a soul around to influence him or disrupt the peace that had began to drift into his thoughts.
Large blue eyes gazed at the apprentice. The feline observed him for some time. Oceaneyes had been out exploring their new territory, as she did many days that she too, wanted to be alone. However, she'd managed to find an apprentice of SunClan that seemed to be a but down. If she recalled correctly, this cat was a bit newer to the clan, once a kitty pet...
Oceaneyes was unsure how she felt about that type of lifestyle. She'd been a warrior her entire life, so she had never known what it would be like to have everything right at your paws and simply be comfortable and lazy... It must have been a rather hard lifestyle change for the young cat.
After a few more moments, she then made her way towards the tom. Her paw steps giving small taps onto the warm earth below them. She didn't want to sneak up on him or startle him, of course.

Her approach, despite her efforts, had gone unnoticed by the tom. He startled slightly when she spoke his name, fur bristling slightly with a skipped heartbeat. Once he recognized the clanmate, he settled once more with a sigh.
"Oceaneyes," he greeted sheepishly at his embarrassment.
"I'm sorry. You just startled me. I needed a little bit of space to clear my head." His voice was soft, laced with a mixture of unsatisfied emotion. It wasn't clan life at all that had him so distracted or down. It was the pressure from his own thoughts that he sought silence from. How was one supposed to truly appreciate the things right in front of themselves with the constant nagging of memories and thoughts that would be better choked away?
"Were you looking for me? Do I need to come back to camp?" He was fully ready to return to his true home if needed. Whenever his clan called, it was obvious where his loyalties laid.
Her large blue eyes blinked at the tom, studying him carefully. The feline finally swept her tail and came to sit next to him, shaking her head. "No, you do not need to come to camp." Oceaneyes assured the tom softly, letting her gaze move across the canyon area. The dark shades of red rock and the trees that dotted here and there, the soft sound of the trailing water.
"It is peaceful out here. I like to think that we are safe here..." She mewed lightly. "I feel safe here. Do you, Wolfpaw?"

The tom perked up at her statement. Good. It was too soon to return to camp; it created visible relief in the tom as he settled back down and turned his eyes to look at her as she gazed out at the red rock and sparse trees. "I don't think that I've ever felt more safe anywhere in my life!" He agreed.
It was true. Even confined within twoleg walls and fences, he'd never felt as secure and comfortable as he did out here. Perhaps his wild heart had always made him uneasy and unsettled in the much easier way of life. Somehow, no matter what he'd done to entertain himself, nothing about his past life had been fulfilling. Nothing he'd ever done could scratch the itch–the call of the wild.
"It sounds like you're settling in well." She commented softly. "I am glad to hear that. I won't lie to you, Wolfpaw... I was a bit skeptical. I was afraid that you wouldn't enjoy the life of a clancat. I know nothing of cats who are kittypets. I was taught to stay away from that lifestyle... Yet, your eyes held a look in them that said nothing of what I would imagine a clan cat to look like." Oceaneyes came to stand in front of him, merely a tail length away.
