Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Foxstar blinked a few times, looking at the cats who had gathered around him. This was his first ceremony, and he was intensely proud of the cats that were going to be promoted. With five new apprentices, the teams had to be mixed up slightly, and he truly looked forward to seeing how the groups worked out. Would it be like it was in NightClan, where the apprentices would become practically one with each other? Were groups of three too much to have that level of solidarity? Foxstar would be lying if he said he wasn't interested to see what was in store for the young cats.
"I've gathered you together tonight to celebrate the changing of ages. This evening, six cats will be promoted to their new roles. The first cat I have the honor of promoting is Pantherclaw," he meowed as he closed the distance between he and the older cat. "After many moons of dedicated service to the clan, it is my absolute privilege to promote you to elder. You have done so much for the clan, and we seek to honor you as your warrior journey ends." He smiled a warm smile, reaching to touch the newly-promoted elder's nose with his own.
He then pulled away, letting his gaze drift to the four younger cats who also stood in line. "And as you all may know, our nursery has gotten quite crowded recently. So crowded that some of our oldest kittens staged a protest to take over the apprentice den," Foxstar's silver eyes glimmered with amusement as he spoke, and he couldn't help but chuckling. "These four have paid their dues in the nursery, and I'm excited to promote each of you. Sunrisekit, Midnightkit, Monsterkit, Buffalokit, and Zebrakit, please step forward." As they did, the leader's smile only grew.
"First, the twins. Sunrisekit, the kitten who believes herself to be the ringleader. May you bring your charisma to your new role. Midnightkit, please do not think for a moment that you have gone overlooked. May your willingness to stand up for yourself never fade. If they were here right now, I know that Uncle Crow and Aunt Orchid would be so proud of the both of you. From this point on, you will now be referred to as Sunrisepaw and Midnightpaw. Welcome to the apprentices." He gave each of his cousin's a touch with his nose, although he wanted to embarass the two of them by affectionately licking their head. He didn't, though. Instead, he simply offered them a proud nod.
"Now, Monsterkit, Zebrakit and Buffalokit, please step forward. Although the three of you have come to SummerClan in unexpected ways, we have been so happy for you to join us. Monsterkit, your confidence will take you great places. Buffalokit, your heart is the only thing as large as you. Zebrakit, your ability to convince others is incredible, and it will serve you well. From this day forward, we will refer to you as Monsterpaw, Buffalopaw and Zebrapaw. Congratulations." As he said their names, he tapped his nose on their heads, a smile on his face.
"Because we have so many new apprentices, we have had to shuffle our apprentice teams slightly. Our first team will be led by Howlingheart, and will be composed of Spongepaw, Midnightpaw, and Brackenpaw. Our second team will be led by Bubblechaser, and will be composed of Turtlepaw, Cometpaw and Zebrapaw. Our third team will be led by myself, and will consist of Sharkpaw, Buffalopaw, and Vixenpaw. Which leads us to our last team."
When he glanced over to Sunrisepaw, he could already see her fur start to rise as she realized what that meant. He was almost certain that he would get an earful from the apprentice at some point - his cousin was never one to hide her emotions. "Ravenmask will lead Monsterpaw and Sunrisepaw," his words were strong, and he glanced between the two apprentices, his silver eyes daring an objection. "I imagine the two of you will be quite the handful, so for now, you will work as a duo."
He then took a step back, once again addressing the clan. "Please, join me in celebrating everyone who has been promoted today."
Finally, was all Monsterkit could think the moment Foxstar — their new leader, small and scrawny and much less annoying then he remembered Sunstar to have been — called the clan meeting. Finally, he would no longer be stuck in the nursery, finally he could actually do something, be something. While Foxstar dawdled on with some elder (he thought everybody cared too much about retirement, surely there were better things to worry about), Monsterkit found a place at the front of the crowd, paws fiddling and pressing onto each other where he sat. He hadn't bothered to smooth out his perpetually ruffled fur, mottled black and gold and scruffy enough to give him a wild look, and neither did he care about being presentable in any capacity. He was practically vibrating where he sat.
And as you all may know, our nursery has gotten quite crowded recently. Before Foxstar even had the chance to call him up properly, Monsterkit had leapt to his paws and took a few long, prideful strides over, matching the leader's smile with a wide, toothy grin of his own. It held only youthful excitement and joy, almost misplaced on his usually scowling face or antagonistic impression. He was overjoyed, freedom was finally in his grasp, and yet he felt a small pull, a tiny sense of grief. He would have loved to see his mother's face in the crowd, or have her fuss over his fur or his presentation (even if she hadn't really cared before), just like he heard a mother was supposed to do — truthfully, he wanted somebody to be proud of him.
When the twins were addressed first, Monsterkit couldn't help but roll his eye, smile twitching downwards in a displace of impatience and annoyance. Idly, he shuffled closer to Foxstar. And then, finally, his name was spoken — in his excitement, he didn't feel the need to snappishly bring up the fact that he had always been there, and that he didn't want to be put in the same category as those weirdos who had just shown up one day and never left — and his new name was bestowed upon him: Monsterpaw. His fur rose in excitement, and he stood up with a bounce, forepaw wiggling in his enthusiasm. The teams were a little less exciting — Monsterpaw wasn't very good at working with others, and he especially didn't like being told what to do, but it still held that same sense of new, fresh excitement, of freedom from the nursery and from being seen as too small, too young, too weak.
Ravenmask will lead Monsterpaw and Sunrisepaw, I imagine the two of you will be quite the handful, so for now, you will work as a duo.
Everything seemed to grey immediately, and the smile on his face fell swift and sharp. He snapped his head towards Sunrisepaw, horror and anger clear in his expression, in the way his shoulders tensed and his fur bristled. "No, no, no!" He groaned, close to yelling the words out then and there, though he kept them quieter. His head tilted to the sky like he was asking Starclan instead (was he? He wasn't sure), "why her? Nothing can ever go right, can it?" He snorted, humourless and agitated, turning his back to Foxstar and the other apprentices and stalking into the cheering crowd.
Apprenticeship be damned, he was not working with Sunrisepaw.

While Midnightpaw was excited for her long-awaited promotion, there was a certain trepidation that ran through her all the same; she was finally an apprentice, which meant one step closer to having to have her life figured out. She was glad really, that she was no longer stuck with some of the other kits in the nursery, but she had hoped to be put on the same team as Buffaloki-Buffalopaw now. He was perhaps the one cat she could call a friend in the nursery after all, but as Foxstar ratted off the names of the teams, she couldn't help but feel both relieved that she wasn't stuck with Monsterpaw, and her eyes flashed with a sympathy when she found out her sister certainly was.
Oh StarClan, she thought, Sunrisepaw was never going to let that down for sure.
She hated Monsterpaw for all of his roughhousing but he knew the two of them would certainly drive their mentor up the wall; there was no possible way that they'd both survive apprenticeship in one piece. In her opinion, she was definitely rooting for her sister at this point; she'd tear that stupid tom into pieces, her lips twitched in a smug satisfaction.
She turned to Brackenpaw, the apprentice they had tackled during their little apprentice den raid, with a smug smirk. "I guess I'll see you on the training grounds," she tried to sound as confident as she could.
