To keep up appearance the tom acted as if he was just as shaken by their predicament as everyone else; that if he could have been back home in an instant he would have been. And to be fair, it wasn't completely an act. He did miss Sunclan, and the sense of having an actual, stable home. But there was still another part of him, an insatiable curioisity and a desire to travel and experience something other than the monotony of typical day to day clan life, that made this temporary stay something of an adventure. And the Regime was so totally and completely different than Dayclan, with their seperations of jobs and their completely subteranean life-style. It was all so new and so completely foreign, and Hartribbon was intent on getting his fill of it before their eventual departure.
The tom had decided that day to visit the guiders, perhaps the concept of the Regime most fascinating to the warrior. In Sunclan, as in most clans, working and memorizing herbs was was the specialty of medicine cats and their apprentices, and to meddle around with them as anything other than a cat of their station was seen as odd at best and pointless and a waste of time at worst. Hartribbon was unfortunately well acquainted with this mentality, the tom had taken a keen interest in herbs and their medical uses at an early age, only to be steered off of messing around with them much as it was became clear that any chance of the tom becoming a medicine cat apprentice had mostly dissipated with his advancing age.
Even still, Hartribbon was always eager to learn a little more and brush up on his knowledge when the oppertunity arose, and the concept of farming for herbs was absolutely novel. As the tom walk into the garden, the epicenter of guider life in the Regime, the tom tried his best to keep up formal airs, as if he was above it all, only here to aid because it was the right thing to do as the Regime had been so kind to take Sunclan in during their time of need. But even as the tom tried so hard to keep up the facade, there was a small, eager spark in his eyes that betrayed his excitment to any insightfulness onlooker.
Guider Kers Wintervale had been stubborn when The Regime changed what cats could be Guiders. The she-cat had dug her heels kicking and screaming to keep her position as a Guider. Her herbs, the garden all of it was her life. She was completely content farming herbs and other plants that could be used to lure starving prey into traps. The young Guider was curious about the Sunclan cats. She had caught several of them sneaking into the gardens to take a peak.
So when Hartribbon waltz into the Regime Gardens. The silver tabby took it as her opportunity to put the Sunclan cat to work or kick them out before they trampled on one of the Regime’s precious plants. She attempted to brush the dirt that clung to her fur with her tail but failed miserably in her efforts. Her fur was almost permanently stained shades of earthy tones from her work day to day as a Guider. She padded up to the tom seeing the small spark of eagerness in his eyes. “See something interesting?”
The question caught the tom a bit off gaurd, perhaps because he wasn't used to being read quite so easily. Facades had, and would likely always be, a fundamental part of the tom's life. But perhaps unlike other cats who worked hard to fine tune an image for himself, it didn't bother Hartribbon too much to have a part of it so easily pulled down. If anything, that only ramped up his curiosity.
Still, he bothered to keep up the act, at least for now, because to quit before he had already spoken a word was too defeatest for his liking. Although part of him wanted to act like a kid in a candy store and bother the poor guider like crazy with an infinite series of questions about how this place worked, the warrior held his tongue, instead only expressing any amount of his inward energy with a small, constant flick of his tail and a slightly stiff dip of his head in polite greeting.
"I guess you could say that. I've never seen anything like this place -- it's just called the Garden, isn't it? We don't really grow plants in Sunclan, so I guess by the very virtue of it being so different - yes, it's interesting." Hartribbon admitted, his tone warm if not a bit reserved.
