Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
The sun was quickly coming up, and a small tortoiseshell she-kit exited the nursery. She was getting to the age now where the nursery aids didn't need to worry about her, and she desperately wanted to get out and stretch her limbs that were steadily growing lengthy and forming more muscle. Sunlight began to warm her dark pelt as she found a quiet spot to clean her pelt, and a steady purr rumbled deep within her chest as she continued the methodical lap of her tongue against her soft fur.
With the cold and snow finally melting away, Calamitykit's excitement had only grown. Small flowers and plants were beginning to sprout where previously there was nothing, and the small tom couldn't be more ecstatic about it. From the moment he had woken up, he had dashed out into the camp and began poking his head around. It didn't take too long before his nose was touching the ground, his yellow-orange eyes narrowed in focus, as he continued to walk without actually watching where he was going. And, of course, that meant he was walking straight towards Rosekit.
Head down as she pulled a small tuft of fur from between her claws, she was almost to late to give a warning shout as one of her denmates nearly crashed into her. Leaping to her paws quickly, she put a bit of distance between them due to the sudden appearance of Calamitykit that had startled her. "Watch it," she meowed, not much force to her voice, "what are you looking for, anyways?"
"I-" It was an immediate reaction for Calamitykit to begin to respond, but he paused after a single sound. His ears tilted, and soon after his head followed suit as he took in the sudden appearance of another kit. Anyone looking on would be able to see the sheer confusion in his gaze as his mind struggled to process where she had even come from. To him, it was almost as if she had just appeared out of thin air, like some sort of phantom. But that couldn't be right, could it? "Were you always standing there?" he finally asked, completely forgetting that he had even been asked a question to begin with.
The small torti frowned as she looked Calamitykit up and down, he looked as if she'd appeared out of thin air like some sort of ghost. "Um, yes?" She responded, having even forgotten that she was the one that had asked him the original question in the first place. The other kit's confusion seemed to be contagious in some way, as it was reflected in her own pale gaze as she observed him quizzically.
At the other kit's response, Calamitykit's eyes widened with the realization setting in that he was the one who nearly ran into a clanmate. On the bright side, the black kit was on the smaller side, so it wasn't likely that he could actually injure anyone, but it didn't keep away the feeling of guilt that began to gnaw at him. At least she didn't seem too upset. "Oh." Awkwardly, he shifted his paws, averting his gaze to the ground again. "I'm sor-" He stopped mid-word as his eyes settled on something on the ground: a small flower bud.
Having leaned forward slightly to hear his response, she missed whatever it was that had gained his attention - his words faltering off to nothing at all. Gaze following his, she noticed the small flower on the ground and she was vaguely reminded of her adventure out of camp with Chestnutkit. Then something occurred to her - this was her adventure partner’s brother, who seemed to share the same type of fascination with plants as the other. Interesting.
“It’s ok,” she said, having accepted the unfinished apology. “Do you like plants, too?” She meowed, the thought simply forming into words before she could stop them - her curiosity had gotten the best of her again.
"Yes!" Sparkling eyes turned from the small bud to look once more at the other kit, a large smile forming on his face. "Flowers especially are the best! They're so pretty and smell really good. Ma tells me that in SummerClan, cats wear crowns made out of them!" He looked back down at the baby flower, slowly reaching out to gently touch it with his paw. "I haven't really seen too many good flowers to try to make one myself..."
Wait, too? As usual, it seemed that Calamitykit was a bit slow in noticing things when he was around flowers. He tilted his head, turning a questioning gaze to her before echoing his thoughts, "Too?" Was there someone else around that shared his love of flowers? If so, he would need to find them! Perhaps they would know a great spot to find flowers for this crown!
The thought of cats weaving flowers into crowns was actually a very interesting idea, and Rosekit had a mental image of wearing one herself full of beautiful flowers like her namesake. Pushing back that thought for a moment, she nodded her head with a small grin. "When I went exploring with your sister she had to stop and look at every plant we came across," the small torti meowed.
"She taught me about some of them, but I'm afraid I don't remember much," she added with a small shrug of her shoulders.
A small from formed on Calamitykit's face. "My sister? You must mean Chestnutkit!" There was only one other kit that he knew of that could talk about plants like that. Honestly, Calamitykit didn't actually know all that much about them outside of names, unlike his sister, but he could definitely appreciate their beauty more than she could.
"She knows so much, I can't expect anyone to keep up with it," he said, giving a slight nod. Then, he glanced back down at the little flower bud at his paws and asked, "Did you happen to find any really pretty flowers while out?"
Nodding in confirmation, Rosekit let her mind wander back to the day that they had ventured far into the territory. There were so many different things that had flooded her senses on that trip. She remembered that Chestnutkit had plucked some herbs by that creepy den, but she couldn't exactly recall any flowers in particular.
"She found herbs, but there weren't any flowers that we picked. I think I remember scenting some, though!"
At this point, Calamitykit was positively beaming with excitement. Perhaps his dream of crafting a crown of flowers wasn't that far away! "Where? Is it close?" he asked, his words now coming much quicker. Behind him, his tail flicked, as if he was doing his best to not just dash away and out of camp right that very moment. Being raised as he was, he had yet to fully understand that kits shouldn't be leaving camp, but at least he had some sort of adult figure with him every time he had so far. Of course, that could only last so long, especially when flowers were involved.
Rosekit couldn't hide the grin that quickly worked its way upon her maw. Glancing around, she noticed that no one was around to pay attention to them. After all, everyone was busy now that the weather had grown so much nicer recently. "Follow me!" she whispered, flicking her tail towards the edge of camp where she had previously escaped into the outside world.
For a moment, Calamitykit stood still, staring after Rosekit in confusion. Where was she going? The camp entrance was the other way; if she was leaving camp, wasn't that the way to go? He glanced at the bramble archways that marked the main entrance, noticing how busy it seemed to be this time of day. With a shrug, he decided to follow Rosekit anyway, and dashed off after her. What could go wrong? She appeared to know exactly what she was doing! "Right behind you!" he whisper-shouted, although he was a little distance off since he hadn't followed immediately.
When she hadn't heard his paw steps following her immediately, she was about to turn to look back when she heard him hurrying after her. Not wanting to draw any more attention to them, she simply nodded and quickly glanced around one more time before sneaking into the shadows of the edge of the camp where the smallest of escapes was possible. "This way," she motioned with her multi-colored tail. "You go through the hole first and I will follow!"
For just a moment, Calamitykit thought that he had lost sight of his new friend, so he continued forward hesitantly, expecting to suddenly run into a wall when he approached the shadows. Luckily, he quickly caught sight of Rosekit again. He paused for only a few seconds, nodding along as she gave him instructions, and looked to the hole. It was a good thing that Calamitykit was the smallest one of his litter, for it was rather easy for him to slip through and escape.
"It's clear," he whispered back out, looking around. He was actually unsure if warriors were supposed to be out this way, but he trusted Rosekit.
