faeish for ratpaw and lilacpaw! sorry it took me forever
"You! Get over here and come with me!" Lilacpaw had picked an apprentice at random, the pretty yellow eyes on that particular one he had called out had caught his attention initially then their sour expression had only further cemented his choice. He enjoyed being able to boss around others with this new authority Kier had given him as the medicine cat apprentice. He enjoyed it even more knowing that without his new title he would just barley be out of the nursery and struggled to work his way to the top of the hierarchy.
As it stood now he was able to make ridiculous statements and demands with the assurance that Kier would back him as long as he didn't cross the line in the sand. Where that line lay he wasn't sure as he hadn't found it yet. "Well! Come on or Snowblister and Kier will be hearing about your disobedience." With that he twirled away and started stalking from camp. Now a little angered that he still had to invoke his seniors names to get things done, a completely 180 from his earlier thinking.
The sound of shouting spun his head towards the sound, one side of his mouth pulling up in a subtle snarl. With even more disdain Ratpaw realized that it was in fact him that the medicine cat apprentice was demanding around. He had half a mind to turn right back around and ignore him completely- until the mentions of Kier and Snowblister entered into the equation. It wasn't necessarily fear that drove him begrudgingly to his paws, though that was certainly present, but respect for his superiors. The callous apprentice quite enjoyed the sadism that followed them and intended to implant himself within the chaos -- in a good way of course.
With a grunt he stood and followed Lilacpaw, still frustrated the younger apprentice was ordering him around so forcefully. Though it would be nice to have a small excursion out of camp for... whatever it is he was wanting.
Lilacpaw stalked forward with the exuberance of an angry ram, head down and shoulders tense. He disliked having an unfamiliar apprentice at his back but he hated going out to collect herbs with Twilightdance even more; all she did was lecture him the whole time and try to talk about his feelings. "I need to go to the abandoned twoleg cottage for herbs. You'll be the pack mule."
He didn't even turn his head to look towards the other as he gave out stern direction, doing his best to channel Snowblister. He'd channel Kier but Kier was often playing that he wasn't a tyrant which meant that Lilacpaw would have to pretend to be nice if he wanted to emulate Kier. It was easy to just try and be Snowblister. Never did it occur to him to try and act like himself.
Once more a huff escaped the apprentice at Lilacpaw's words. He supposed he would rather be among Kier or Snowblister at that moment, weaseling himself into their crowd by doing their deeds. Though he supposed the medicine cat apprentice may be a good start. After all, you can't very well start at the top, can you..?
He shook his head clear of his thoughts of ambition and followed the other apprentice in silence for some moments. Admittedly Ratpaw wasn't one to make friendly conversation; in fact, quite the opposite. The tom didn't tend to find much entertainment in it. And usually the topics he would be entertained by were not met with like-mindedness. This tom seemed to have no problem acting like himself, and due to this, he was a cat few cared to be around. So rather than attempt to start polite conversation, Ratpaw simply remained quiet and bore a hole in the back of Lilacpaw's head with his gaze.
As the silence dragged on Lilacpaw felt the fur on his pelt rising in uneasiness; he hated silence, could chatter on and on for what seemed like days. Often Kier would threaten him with harm after Lilacpaw followed him around nattering about every little thing that occurred to him or ranting about every grievance he felt he had suffered that day. So as time drew on and not a word was spoken he started getting annoyed, "do you not know common manners? You should at-least introduce yourself." He spit, tossing a condescending look over his shoulder.
He said this words with misplaced confidence, as if they would not be interpreted negatively, as if he himself hadn't introduced himself or even bothered asking the others name or if he was too busy to help him. "It's like your daft."
Ratpaw felt his own fur rising along his spine as the better-than-thou apprentice began spitting at him. His claws outstretched and sank into the earth with each pawstep as his imagination fluttered to the beautiful blood Lilacpaw would produce, if it could be spilled. He couldn't help but see that despite the medicine cat apprentice implying he were mannerless, it was in fact Lilacpaw that had ordered him around and spit on him without even considering what his name was. "My name is Ratpaw. Don't bother with yours. I don't care and it truly doesn't matter anyway."
"It's like your daft." The fury beneath his skin began to boil at this, more so that Ratpaw wasn't quite sure just what daft meant. He refused to indulge the arrogant apprentice and decided to keep silent after his introduction, tail lashing indignantly.
"If you don't know it you're in the wrong not myself." Lilacpaw snorted in reply, lips quirking up at Ratpaws name. So appropriate to name them after a creature that scurrying around in the dark, a disgusting scavenger. He hoped the stupid thing came into the medicine cat den one day so Lilacpaw could turn him away as he had decided he was going to do with Bumblebeepaw from now on as well.
As he spotted the abandoned twoleg den he paused and turned to Ratpaw, "you can wait here and I'll pick herbs and make a pile then we can carry them back once I have everything gathered." Taking a moment he considered the other and narrowed his eyes, "or you could explore inside I suppose." is paranoia didn't like the idea of taking his eyes off someone he wasn't sure wouldn't slit his throat.
Ratpaw couldn't deny that the cat in front of him was far better at infuriating him than any other he had met thus far and containing his anger was quite a difficult task. If only this cat was someone other than a medicine cat, perhaps then he could let his fantasies run rampant out here in this isolated den. Instead he approached the closest tree and ripped at it with his claws a few times until the boiling subsided.
He listened to Lilacpaw as he once more ordered him around but let it fly over his head this time. He supposed the other apprentice was probably attempting to play himself off as something he was not - if Ratpaw had any empathy perhaps he would pity the other cat at this revelation. Without a word he decided to brush past Lilacpaw and enter the abandoned den; a place he'd never explored before and had begun to get curious about.
Blinking in surprise Lilacpaw watched him before letting out an annoyed grunt and stalking around the side of the den. He didn't know much about herbs and he in truth cared very little to know more at all. But he figured it would be best to just grab some things and hope the appeased Twilightdance and eased her nagging back down to a more dismissable level.
Not to say he was careful about how he ripped up plants and carelessly tossed them into a pile on the side, in truth they would et very little worth out of the trip. But the lilac point tom wasn't worried; Kier would dismiss all of Twilightdance's objections and he would be free to do as he pleased once more with her chased off his back.
