Hello everyone! I wanted to discuss what you all would like to see out the Of the Month/Of the Year awards in the future. I'll go ahead and list out ideas I have had and you can expand on those or voice your own. Note that as much as I would love to use every idea, this is mostly to gauge what the most popular ideas are and see how much I can implement into our awards <3 I'm going to try and implement as much as I can without them getting overwhelming! I look forward to hear what you all come up with.
Ideas I have had:
Revamp the categories if needed. I mostly want to get an idea of how you all are liking the categories we have so far.
Additional awards for OTY like a character drawing, layout, special discord color and title, etc.
Announce OTYs in a mass message to make it more grand
Give that user a more noticeable change to their profile or something so people can see that they won the OTM
Announce OTM winners in the monthly newsletter

I think it would be fun if you made little medals or trophies or banners or something that people can display on their profiles! A free character drawing for those who have cats that win would be fun too!!

(If more than one, separate them out so I don't accidentally miss one) I think having a record page like Jet mentioned before and maybe having cute art or banners or something would be nice! I remember we used to get lil gif icons or like, simple graphics as rewards for things ♥

I like what Klee said! A drawing of the character(s) for character otm, couple otm, and/or pair otm could be really fun! Plus, we already have the system in place for the same couple/character/pair etc. not to be nominated twice in a row, so I think that’d be a fair and fun reward! Doing buttons that are like, in gold or something? Could be fun for the other awards too, like theme the buttons year round for OTM around holidays or something, but OTY could be like… flashy~

I’ve also really liked the idea of unique buttons for Classic awards. Like how you can put those button pins on backpacks and stuff? Make it like that, but for the award! We could even theme them after whatever holiday or fun thing is happening that month!

I think they’re ran pretty well as is tbh! Altho… I personally think it’d be more fair if we made it where users can’t nominate themselves and can’t vote for their own characters or whatnot. Just ‘cuz I think it’d yield more fair results, but. I dunno, I don’t think we have a big problem with that
What are your ideas for revamping the Of the Year awards to be more exciting? More unique prizes would be great! Art is always a wonderful prize, though it does take a lot of effort.

I mentioned this to you before, but I like the idea of the winners being sent out in a message! Either their own message, or being added on to the monthly newsletter that the CM sends out. I'm blind and easily miss when the section is updated oop.
Perhaps making the awards section more obvious? I often forget that there's a button in everyone's mini profile that you can click and see what they've won (though I do wish that it also listed when and what characters, if applicable). I'm sure that there's a ton of people who don't even know that's a thing, too.

(If more than one, separate them out so I don't accidentally miss one) -I don't need it to be more exciting so much as I'd like to just be able to go back and see the trends from before. I often go back and look at my awards and wonder... 'wait which pairing won?' the awards are nice but it just tells me I won an award, when I'd like to reflect back on what won the award.
What is something you would change about the way Of the Month/Of the Year awards are ran? -Show the winners at the end of the nomination thread so a record of them exists easily found -Perhaps make a specified board for OTM and OTY so it can be easy to refer back to. Too often I want to go back and see what quotes won only to have to go to the nomination thread and play matching to find the winning quote. It'd be nice to have a compilation of the winners so we can look back at it. Like how in a yearbook you can still flip back to see who was marked as what for that year.
not exactly to do with OTM/Y, but in the same vein — if we continue with prom king and queen, which i assume we will, it would be nice for them to have their own award on the winners’ profiles as well. right now, as soon as the forum wrapper is updated, all record of who the winners were disappears, so it would be nice to have it immortalised the same as any other award! this could include retroactively adding it to the profiles of all previous winners from 2021 to at least 2018 when we moved to PB c:
otherwise, i love all of jet’s ideas especially! being able to click on the award icons and see a list of which of your pairings/character/quote/clan/etc it was that won would be wonderful, both for your own memory and for everyone else’s, and i like the idea of a compilation of winners that each new one is added to. all in all just making it less ‘you won, the end’ and more ‘you’ve been added to classic’s history and are now a part of it!’
a specific page or board could definitely help that. also, for ‘clan of the month’, it could be good for that award to say on the user’s profile that they got that award because THEY were leader of that clan at the time and which clan it was - it’s a really good feeling for leaders <3 same for things like, which month/year did someone win new member of the month? it’ll be a big job to sift through the old awards threads and match names to dates, but i’d love to help!
and if we can’t make it like, a little hover/pop-up box over the award icon, it could just be as simple as listing the winning character/etc below them - it would take up space but i think it’s more than worth it c:
and tying into jet’s yearbook idea, maybe we could do an end of year ‘most likely to…’ series! with fun, different categories suggested by users each year! just a silly, celebratory way to end the year, a lil class party of jokes and bonding c: it could be fun to do it for characters, but it might be even nicer to do it for just users, to really appreciate them as people and as our friends.
