Adders weren’t common prey back in the old territory, but the Badlands were teeming with them. The Isle was strange, but Cyder was quickly adjusting. He stretched, glancing down at the dead snake at his paws. He wondered if it would taste any good.
”Go put that behind the nursery, see how many kits you can scare before their mothers tear your ears off,” Rainin suggested as he passed by, spotting the adder at his paws.

“Maybe I should feed it to them instead, to figure out if it’s venenous,” he responded without missing a beat, shrugging nonchalantly. The copper-eyed tom didn’t recognize Rainin, regarding him with equal parts indifference and wariness.
”Hm. Might cause more trouble that way,” Raijin observed. He knew it was a joke – or he hoped it was – but it still sent a shiver of unease through him.

“Isn’t that the point?” Cyder questioned with a leer, his fangs glinting wickedly in the light. For a father, one might think he would be more compassionate towards the lives of kits. Clearly not.
The blue tom looked puzzled. “Not if your purpose was just to see if the prey was poisonous. That’s almost altruistic,” he noted, with a little bit of a tease in his voice.

Cyder matched his expression, his grin growing slightly. “You’re right,” he responded coolly, then proceeded to nudge the corpse towards him. “You should eat it, then.”
His ear flicked in amusement. “You’re the charitable one, not me. Besides, it was your catch; the honor is yours.” He bowed his head deeply in mock recognition.

“Your cowardice is understandable,” Cyder stalled, maintaining his expression of amusement, “but alas, I suppose I’m as ready to die as ever. Here goes,” he continued, eventually giving a shrug, bending his neck, and taking a bite. The flesh was chewy and rough; Cyder didn’t quite care for the taste.
”I’ll take cowardice over death any day,” Raijin agreed. He was comfortable in life and saw no reason to end it – especially for a good cause like figuring out if a snake was poisoned. Someone else could handle that.

“Fairly sure that’s the definition of cowardice,” Cyder responded as he swallowed the bite. He didn’t care to take another. Tilting his head, he waited for a moment, before giving a shrug. “I guess today’s my lucky day,” he prompted.
”Or it just takes a while to take you down,” he replied, flicking his tail. “Well, you didn’t eat much; maybe you’ll survive and just get sick. Better hope nobody chooses to put you out of your misery.”

"There's gotta be a first time for everything, no?" Cyder responded with a half-smile, eyeing him through a sideways glance. "Maybe you could go down in history."

Cyder matched him with a wide grin, shaking his head, "if this adder turns out to be poisonous, I would argue you on the most brutal of deaths," he chided.

"I guess I don't mind sharing," Cyder smirked, stretching. "What else do you have planned for the day? Maybe we could take a trip back to the Verdency and do some hunting."
