Large fluffy snowflakes fell gently down on an already snow covered ground as Fisherpounce awaited the arrival of Racoonpaw and Soulpaw in the training hollow. This was the first time he had been asked to train apprentices and he was excited. This should be fun! he thought as he batted at flake that had drifted close to his face. He stopped and looked around to see if any cat had seen him acting like a kit. I should be serious now that I'm a mentor. Two more flakes floated nearby tempting him to chase them. "Aw, so what!" he mewed as he chased after them.
Soulpaw and his brother, Netherpaw, definitely had to be the oldest apprentices at this point. The silver bengal had been made an apprentice nearly 12 moons ago, and he was beginning to get bored of it. At first, he had missed many of his training sessions; being hard to find made him more mysterious, didn't it? Like some sort of ghost! But now, he just wanted to be promoted. There was nothing cool about being an apprentice for this long, and he felt like others were looking down on him now.
When Soulpaw approached the training hollow, he did so with what he believed to be cool aloofness. This was his third - or fourth? He lost track - mentor, and he wanted to make an impression. He would be quiet, only look at his mentor from the side, and, most importantly, he would-
"What are you doing?" he asked, freezing in his steps as he saw Fisherpounce chasing snowflakes.

Mouse-dung! Fisherpounce hissed to himself. Ever since he was a kit and helped to head up a war against the 'falling sky ants' with Sunkit, now Sunstar, he's been drawn to keep chasing them. And by doing so, it kept him battle ready. Ah! There's my answer!
He turned to face his new apprentice. "Chasing snowflakes is an excellent way to help keep your battling skills sharp. They come at you from all directions and varying speeds much like real opponents." He then demonstrated a few attacks against these relentless pieces of frozen water that would astonish even a ninja master had one been around to witness the feat. "Strike hard, strike fast using all four paws if necessary and then move onto your next opponent."
Of course, Soulpaw couldn't quite bring himself to believe a single word that was coming out of Fisherpounce's mouth, and it showed. The silver bengal stood still, his thoughts written all over his face. His mentor was a weirdo. He could only hope that the other tom wouldn't have him start attacking snowflakes - he would look absolutely ridiculous! He might as well give up his entire personality that he made of being mysterious, since such an act would shatter everyone's perception of him!
Slowly, Soulpaw nodded. "Riight," he drew out the word far longer than he needed to as he collected his thoughts. "If this were a battle, I think you would have lost already." With a swish of his tail, Soulpaw motioned at the snow coating Fisherpounce's pelt.

"True," Fisherpounce replied as he shook the snow his coat. "But but enemies aren't usually this small." He sensed Soulpaw didn't either believe him or take him seriously - or maybe both but he decided not to discuss the matter further. Actions speak louder than words. And also the recently healing scratches he wore on his side from the fight with NightClan bore testimony to his aggressiveness in battle. He had given good account of himself as well. Many NightClan cats wore marks left by his claws and teeth.
"Why don't you show me what battle moves you know already while we wait for Racoonpaw to arrive," he said casting a glance toward the entrance to see if the other apprentice was coming. "That way I'll know where to pick up your lessons." He moved the the center of the clearing. "Attack me."
