The silver tom stalked through the undergrowth. There were plans to be made in the dead of night; his green eyes gleamed in the moonlight, its silver splashing across the world, everything like a black and white film. There were only few he met in the darkness, his assassin often being one of them. He had half expected her to show up first, in their usual spot at the marsh, yet when footsteps approached, it certainly wasn't the steps of Elizabeth. No, it was someone else, how intriguing.
His eyes flashed as he looked towards the bushes from which the slight rustle came from. He was sitting still, ears perked, tail draped across his paws. "Are you following me?" he asked, both curious and holding that distaste on his tongue, the look he often held for most cats.

A smirk befell the feline's lips. It only took her a moment to bring herself from the hidden shadows of the undergrowth. Before him stood Katie's granddaughter, Kate. Daughter to Harley and Rhiannon. The feline gazed at him with curious eyes, yet her expression did not hold the same. "Perhaps." She mewed first, her little tail nub twitching behind her.

The cat was young, a trainee or someone recently graduated, he was sure. He knew her face around, the rumours about how the Katie line continued to exist. Two cats born from a lineage of old, so tied up in its strings yet desperate to prove that their past didn't hold them back. Bermondsey had never been familiar with her father nor her grandmother.
The only other cat from her lineage he had known was the cat his father cheated on his mother with.
His green eyes narrowed. "What do you want?" his voice was curt, holding both authority and a certain irritation that some unknown cat decided to bother him at an ungodly hour like this, "I don't have all evening if you're only here to be a distraction."

In reality, she wanted his attention. She needed his attention. Kate needed to be noticed, she wanted to prove her worth. What cat could simply do this for her, it would be him, of course. Kate had been thinking long and hard about these things, her training could only do so much. The cat found herself walking up to him, before casually sitting and letting her sharp hued eyes land upon the tom.
Kate gave a half smile which seemed to be laced with something hidden. "Were you expecting someone else?"

The tom could feel the challenge, ever so slight like a bitterness of dark chocolate upon his tongue, and his green eyes narrowed ever so slightly, whether in contempt or something else, no one could be sure. "I was expecting someone more useful to me," he replied almost dismissively, his flat expression turned towards her, as if challenging her to prove herself if she wanted to, "what does a trainee have any use to me?"

"I can be of more use than you realize." Mewed Kate, as if she truly had something that he could benefit from. A slight smile flitted along her lips as her eyes once more shifted along the tom. Kate lifted a paw, running her tongue over her pad before she cleaned her whiskers casually, her eyes now focused on her task. The calico feline then looked up, her sharp pine-hued eyes gazing towards the tom.
Kate had confidence. There was a point in time where Kate had went through a hard depression. Without her father she'd been almost useless cat. Luckily, the two had fixed the bond that had broken so hard. Now, she had her father back, and she'd come back to herself. The strong feline who bested many of the other trainees. Her fighting skills were impressive. She was an average hunter that had a keen mind, and a rather out of the box thinker. The better she was at something, the more her attitude seemed to grow.
The bob tail cat knew she was of value, no matter who wanted to admit it or not.
All she had to do was prove that. Her ambition and drive was almost a call for applause. She had spunk, and Kate was going to go places. She would make sure of it.
"After all, a cat like me is one in a million."
She paused.
"Name your task." As if to say,I'll show you my use. I'll do whatever it takes to show you.

His lips twitched into a brief smirk; confidence, that was always the make or break with every cat. He'd know better; it was the proof of his brother's rise to power, and proof of his father's downfall.
"Every cat starts out thinking they're the needle in the haystack," he replied smoothly, "and yet, there are few who make it to the top. Are you so certain you don't see the possibility of failure?"
Still, a cat so eager to offer herself to his service; surely there was something to it too. "If you find some information that can further the league's place in this forest, something I haven't heard before, I'll reward you handsomely," he spoke, eyes glittering. It was clear what the assignment was. A strategy, or perhaps, a secret within the forest that could be used against someone.
There was no worth in trading food in this land, only secrets and knowledge.

Kate put her paw down, and let her eyes shift up to meet his, her expression serious. "If I do fail, I learn from my mistakes. However.." She paused. "I will not fail in this, that I assure you, E'tan." Her promise slid from her lips with fluidity, each word she carefully spoke. The feline dipped her head slightly, then let a smile slide along her lips.
"Very well."
She'd done it. She'd at least managed to catch his attention. That was all Kate needed, she could prove herself.

Limping. Kate found herself limping back into camp, her paw was bleeding from the torn claw, but that was the only injury that she seemed to have. The calico feline ignored the cats that seemed to gather around her, wondering what had just happened. She gave a sharp hiss, shoving one out of the way and said,"Get out of my way." Confused, they backed off from the cat, and watched as she made her way to the Nemesis' den.
"I have that information you asked for." She called, waiting on permission to enter. Her eyes seemed clouded over, and her fur was frazzled. However, there was an air about her, that seemed to call for murder. Something was different about Kate, and Bermondsey was about to figure out just what it was.

Bermondsey hadn't expected her to really go for it; she was young, willing to prove herself yes, but many cats talked that talk without ever walking the walk, and he had half expected her to try to a degree, but it was clear that whatever she had found, something was different about her. Something was off.
His eyes narrowed. "Come in," he replied, his tail wrapped nearly around his paws as he sat in wait.

She moved to sit with him, alone, in his den. She'd never been in this place before. It was something new for her, to be in here. However, she was unfocused on that, instead, she met his gaze. Her paw was sore, but Kate sat as if nothing of the physical sort bothered her. Truly, she was young, however, she was the age that most cats became hunters. She was growing older, filling out in her body. Her short legs remained as so, but her shoulders had filled out. Kate was beautiful, yet... Not as beautiful as most felines. She didn't have a graceful air about her, she had a strong air. An air that seemed to almost demand that cats see her as strength, not girly.
Green eyes flashed in the den as she seemed to hesitate in speaking. Something was hurting her, something deeply. Clearing her throat, she lifted her chin slightly as she tried to make her voice unwavering. "Kier has killed... Harley. He now seems to hold some power in NightClan. His mate, who is expecting kits... I found her in league territory. She smelled heavily of him and the clans, it was almost easy to gather from the way she spoke. Kier is the leader of NightClan." Kate paused. It had sounded gravely when she spoke of her father, a sharp pain struck her all over again as she struggled to keep herself together.
Harley had been everything to her, and her brother had taken him away. Forever.
"I can tell you, that Kier being a leader of anything... is unwise. He is unstable. It will cause a war. He wants power, because he is weak."

Harley. The name didn't register a face for Bermondsey, but he had a good memory for things. Harley, Kate's father, was it? He was one of Katie's, the one the cat in front of him was named after, no? It was strange, how matricide and patricide seemed to be a reoccurring thing in the league's blood, and yet, as much as this cat in front of him seemed so eager to prove herself as some sort of killing machine, he could see it in her posture, the way her eyes seemed so hollow, that as much as she pretended that nothing affected her...
She was mourning.
Kier. He could remember the name, remember a face to it too. Bat-like little cat, snuck around a lot. He had never thought of the cat as dangerous. "Do you know what happened to Aspenstar?" Of course, Bermondsey knew. He had been the one to take her life, though he wasn't sure whether it was her last, but he was curious as to what the rumours were.

"Dead." She replied. It was a short reply, but her head was pounding. She found herself wanting to escape and get away from the Nemesis. Kate wanted to break down, but she couldn't do that around anyone. She had to do it alone, as she was not one to let others find her weak. Her green eyes lifted as she set them on the tom. They were empty, yet raging with emotion.
"I know you see me and my siblings as nearly useless. We are young, but we have something that others don't." A pause, her expression was serious. This wasn't something she were joking about, and she knew that others did not take this very seriously. However, Kate knew the weight blood held. Especially in a place like this.
"Katie and Jynx were both really powerful cats, who had really extraordinary lines. I would never underestimate any of us." It was almost like a foreshadow.
The thing about Katie's line, is that most of her offspring and so forth, were promised tragic lives. Yet, tragic lives of power. Each one of them had made something out of themselves, had made their names known in some way. It was unfortunate for Harley, that he died so young. He'd had more to give to the world, and more to teach his children. Especially Kier, who so desperately needed guidance.
Kate was named after Katie. It was her destiny to be great like her, hell, she even looked so much like Katie. She had gotten her calico coat, her build. Her fur was not long, and her eyes were not brown, but to any of the cats that had knew her... They'd say that Kate definitely was her granddaughter.
"Kier may seem like nothing... He's just a ticking time bomb, ready to go off. How he gained control over NightClan is beyond me, but he did. Don't take this lightly." Though clancats were never to the level that league cats were... They had more in number. Always had.

She was dead? He blinked, for a moment, an expression of surprise crossed his face. He had expected her to be out for a bit, but truly dead...he didn't expect that at all. His expression changed to a somewhat troubled one, his brow furrowing. His one uncalculated move did have...other consequences, after all.
He wasn't unaware of her lineage, but he knew what lineages brought along with them. After all, his own had been cursed, no? He knew Eshek didn't believe in the curse, and his own fixating concern had slowly dissipated to a low-level anxiety that rarely reared its head. "Don't rely too much on blood," he replied knowingly, with a glint in his eye, "blood rarely carries blessings, only curses. Even with a strong bloodline, nothing's promised in life."
After all, he had been born a prince, on a thrown gilded in gold and silver, and it took only an argument between his sister and his mother to set everything in flames. Still, he didn't make the mistake of underestimating Kier, at least not twice. The cat was a smooth talker, and had an ability to weasel in and out of things, it seemed.
"Thanks for the information," he spoke, though the glint in his eyes expressed how pleased he was with this information, "tell me more about your brother Kier. What's he like? What does he care about?"

Kate mentally shook her head. She refrained from doing so physically, but she could feel the lack of belief in her line. He'd believe eventually, Kate was sure of it. The calico feline breathed in slowly, and took note of the pleased look in his features. She was quiet for a moment, having not expected him then to be asking questions about Kier. There was nothing more she wanted than to leave his den now, and get away from his prying eyes. Kate was exhausted, and her adrenaline was beginning to fade away.
What's he like? What does he care about? The question flitted around in her mind for a few moments. She let the silence build, until finally answering. Her voice seemed oddly monotone, as if it were taking a lot out of her just to be speaking. Her dad's face seemed to linger behind the nemesis, and she found it hard to keep on.
"He is sly and is in no way a fair fighter. He will do anything to get what he wants, no matter who he has to betray or hurt. He's weak, but seems to be able to manipulate things in his favor. I do not know how he managed to gain control of NightClan, but it can't of been good either way. Kier is nothing short of a snake. Pathetic."

He could feel the anger, the disgust, the rage that hid in her words, and he took note of it all, filing it away for later. A snake, huh? He knew the kind of cat she spoke about. A cat in which the only thing you can trust is how you can't trust them, a cat that reeked of desperation for whatever they desired. Never trust a cat who knows what they want, he'd hear over and over again, because they'll make sure to do whatever they can to get it.
His gaze narrowed at Kate. She was a vulnerable cat, even with the facade of toughness written across her face. There too, was something about her that wanted to prove itself. There was something that made her dangerous in a different way; the conviction in her would either burn like a wildfire or fizzle out like a firework.
"You're dismissed, the information is well appreciated," he spoke, though the gleam in his eyes told her enough. After a moment of hesitation, he spoke again. "Don't let your rage blind you," he murmured, "wait your turn and you'll eventually get your revenge."

Her green eyes lingered on the nemesis for a few moments. She met his gaze full force in those seconds, and finally she found herself dipping her head to his advice. Instead of responding any further, she left it at that. His words echoing in her mind as she turned and limped slightly from the den. Her mind heavy, heart heavy. She felt anxious for what was to come, but could not tell the future in it. Kate ground her teeth together as she made her way to her nest, attempting to hold it all together.
