Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
She couldn't keep her eyes off of them, even though the two small kits cuddled to her were only sleeping. She had went through so much to bring them into the world, she feared that if she looked away they might just fade away.
The day before still didn't seem real, more like a nightmare. She knew it had happened, but it felt so far away. Perhaps it was her way of dealing with the immense pain of the birthing, or perhaps she just didn't want to aknowledge that three of her kits and Leatherstar were really gone. She had chosen Skipstep, but that didn't make sending Leatherstar away any easier. She had loved him one, and feelings like that didn't just disappear. Her heart still ached for him, but her love for Skipstep and these kits far outweighed her need to see him. She had to do what was best for them, and growing up with their hearts divided between WinterClan and SUnClan like she had was not what she wanted for them. They deserved to be happy, with two parents the loved them.
“Hey Littlebird,” Jetclaw said carrying a mouse over to her. “Got you some food!” She said. “Skipstep’s hoping he can come back tonight, but in the meanwhile I got all my hunting and patrolling done for the day. So you’ve got me to hang around you now.”
Despite still be weakened, Jetclaw's apperance made her smile. There was just something about her that made her feel more cheerful, even when she was in a dark mood. "Thank you JetClaw" she purred, tearing her gaze from the two little ones at her side.
All three of them were still critical, having Foxstar and Mountainside checking on them every few hours. With most of her litter having already passed and Littlebird being so weak, she had been put on stirct bed rest until she regained her strength. She wished that Skipstep could have been here, but he was already pushing himself to hard. Skipstep had spent all night watching over them, only leaving when he had to attend to his duties. "Hopefully Foxstar is not working him to hard"
"Nah, if she was, Skipstep knows he can have me pick up some of the less confidential tasks," Jetclaw assured her with a purr. "Anything that requires the secrecy of the Janus he doesn't let me pick up though." She set down the mouse down by Littlebird looking at the two kits. "How you all doing?" She asked expression softening as she moved to sit down, lowering her voice to not disturb the little ones.
"They are both doing really well. My milk has come in better than they thought it would, so they are both getting plenty to eat. Mountainsound said that they are not out of the woods yet, but are looking stronger every time she comes to check on them" She gazed down upon the two kits who had managed to make it. Honestly it was a miracle that any of them had lived, and even though she was still bitter about her loss she still thanked the Sun God for saving them.
"I'm not allowed to move for a while. Mountainsound wants me to send someone to fetch her if I even need to switch sides" she sighed. She had bled so much that everyone feared the slightest movements could cause the bleeding to return.
Jetclaw nodded. "Well you won't have to worry about that then. You can just rest and let me and my brother get you whatever you need." She said with a purr giving her sister in law a friendly lick. "And I'm sure they'll be fine, they've got your genes, even if they're combined with that stinky WinterClan leader." She said with a sniff. Then she paused. REcalling something Leatherstar had said. "What did he mean by you being connected?" She asked lowering her voice.
She wasn't really sure how to answer the question. She wanted to be honest, but at the same time she wasn't sure she even understood the concept herself. When he had asked her to form the bond, she thought it was simply symbolic. He had asked in such a way, that she was afraid that had she not accepted he would have shattered.
"I... I'm not sure I really understand it either" she admitted, trying to figure out how to word what had transpired between them. "When I tried to end things with him, he asked if he could give me a present. He said that it was a symbol of all that we had been through and so that we would always be connected... He was determined, and if I said no I thought he would shatter and never let me go... So I agreed. He said some words that I didn't understand, and then our blood was mixed. I don't know exactly how it works, but no whenever I am in pain he feels it as if it were his own. I believe that is why he strode right into our camp... He thought I was dying"
Jetclaw straightened up. "That's terrible!" She cried, voice dropping into a hiss when she saw the wriggling kits and reminded herself to keep her volume in check.
Continuing in a hiss she said, "What are we going to do if he tries anything?! Anything we do to him would hurt you as well." Jetclaw's blue eyes stretched wide in fear. "What if he threatens to hurt himself so you'll be hurt if you don't do as he asks?" She asked.
She shook her head "No, I don't I feel his pain the way he does mine" her tail gently moved to still the kits that had begun to squirm at the loud sound. "He has gotten hurt before now, and the only thing that I felt was like a strange feeling. He hurt his leg, and I knew something was wrong but I didn't really hurt.. not the way he did last night"
It didn't make a lot of sense to her, and it was something that she would rather not many cats to know about. She knew that there would be more questions than answers she could give. The anguish on his face had been real, mirroring her own. "I'm more worried that someone will use me to get to him..." as much as she respected Foxstar, she wouldn't put it past her to inflict pain upon her to draw Leatherstar into some sort of trap.
