South hadn't been the same since the day of the explosion. Watching her brother disappear under the rubble, save for his paw. How it twisted and reached for her, before falling still. Being roughly torn away from the last part of Eastpaw that remained as the tunnel began collapsing around them. The whole thing had been her fault, if she had just listened to him instead of worrying about the mud he wouldn't have died. It had only been a moment's hesitation but it was enough... Since then she refused to speak, simply following commands like a shell instead of her normal sasiness. She didn't even bother cleaning her pelt, the only reason it was taken care of at all was her Prince Illius who had made it his mission to try and cheer her up. @ian

"You look rough, kid," meowed the Sentinel as she padded up, her tail flicking casually across the ground. "Hell, I thought I looked rough," she paused to look down at herself. Even Gossamer had become a little too depressed to obsessively clean herself, and there were precisely four clumps of disgusting dirt in her chest furs. "But, I gotta say, you take the cake." Her gaze shifted back to the cadet. She felt badly for her, she really did. She couldn't imagine what it felt like to be South right now, nor did she really want to. But, at the same time, feeling bad for her wasn't going to help. South didn't need the pity; she probably pitied herself enough already. "But, rough or not, we've got work to do. Come on, kid, you're with me today." Without waiting for a response, the sentinel turned, fully expecting South to follow without further prompting.

The white apprentice hardly even acknowledged the older cat's presence, her blue eyes focused on her paws below. It was only the minor twitch of her ear and the fact that she rose to her paws to follow after the Sentinel, that showed she had even heard her at all. Her paws dragged across the ground and she walked, fluffy tail hanging low enough to brush against the ground. Before she would have argued about being ordered around like that, but her spirit was broken. She simply followed the command without question, that was what her grandmother had wanted from her for so long anyway... Where they were going? She supposed she would find out when the two of them arrived.

"Not even a ruffle of your fur, wow, you really have gone down hill," she commented with a blink. No one said she had any social graces. This would be the second cadet she'd have to cheer up, something she might have been resentful for in another life. After all, when did she become a babysitter? When had she cared to cheer cats up? She was trying to tell herself that it wasn't that she had grown soft, but because the Regime needed a healthy work force that didn't look like they were about to nose dive off a waterfall. This was strictly business, she didn't actually care, right? She had a small suspicion that this was not right at all. "You're not going to give me the silent treatment this whole time, you hear? Even if I have to be real annoying, you'll talk. Trust me, I can be that annoying. Ask your grannie. So why don't you just make this easier on me, say a few words, and then we don't have to go on a Life Changing Adventure and we could just... I don't know. go hunt a bird or something."

The little white she-cat gave her a weak nod, but that was the extent of her response. She had no plans on breaking her silence for Goss, nor anyone else for that matter. Everytime she opened her mouth it only got her in trouble, it was far easier to just say silent. Her ears fell back against her her head that hung low as the walked.
