Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Sean had run off on a suicide mission to get Snowy and hadn't returned. Which meant he died. Like, he was just dead.
Dusky had set up a camp for those who had run off with him, but it was late and his mind was stirring with thoughts. Getting up he looked to Lex wondering if he had to even nudge his dad awake, "Are you awake?" Dusky whispered. The night was heavy in the sky.
Lex couldn't sleep. Not necessarily for not being tired, more so worry about Dusky. After all, this was a big change. "I'm awake." He confirmed, turning to face his son. "What did you want to talk about?"
"I don't know..." Dusky said, there was a long pause, "I guess I really don't know," He said with a slight chuckle at the awkward silence, "I feel like I've gone through more clans than I should though right? Regime, SunClan, DayClan, Regime again... Starting to get the feeling the Regime isn't working out," He said rubbing the back of his brown head.
"Wherever you go, I go, you know. We can make a home anywhere you like." Lex pointed out. "Just the two of us, maybe get your sister and brother to visit."
"Do you really not mind?" Dusky asked with a worried expression, "I Know you love me and that's what a parent is supposed to do, be supportive, but I feel like ever since I was born I basically uprooted your life and sort of... Ruined everything in a weird sense?" He said with an uncertain grin.
"Home for me is wherever you are. I had no home before SunClan and you kits came along. I don't mind traveling to the ends of the earth if it means finding a place you're happy." Lex answered honestly.
"Really? You seemed so happy in SunClan, you never urged any of us to leave. I thought that was the place you were happiest in and then mom and I were too honest and told you it was a cult and then ruined your fantasy of a perfect god loving clan," Dusky said sheepishly.
"And you saved me from a cult in the end. Is a happy fantasy better than a harsh reality?" He questioned. "I think I'd rather reality than be disillusioned. Even if it's not as pretty."
"I do like..." He paused wondering if he'd mean if he said he liked harsh realities, but when he peered over to camp he realized he meant it and nodded along with his dad. Things were hard, but they were real, they weren't fake like what Foxstar setup. It felt right.
"I guess I just wanted to talk to you about anything on my mind if that's okay? Is that too selfish to ask you to stay away talking? If you'd rather sleep I understand."
"Without all the Regime's hard labor, I have extra energy anyway. And I'll always have the energy to listen to you. We haven't spent time like this together in moons." He missed this, honestly. Being able to just spend time with Dusky talking about anything or nothing.
Dusky felt a guilty knot in his stomach, they really hadn't talked a lot. He hadn't noticed it, but when he joined the Regime his mom had pushed him to focus on her family, not Lex. "Oh, yeah that's true, I'm just glad we can talk now then," He smiled, "Um. Phew, where do I begin... So. That was crazy today," He said with a shy little smirk.
Lex laughed. "I'll say. You have a habit of getting yourself into all kinds of trouble. I think it's Glowstar's genetics. You definitely didn't get it from me."
"I just didn't want to tell her the herbs!" He said, tipping his head back in laughter, pressing a paw up to his forehead, "Like seriously, the way she was asking me she was obviously going to use it to be all evil. I was like, no, and she was all like," He switched to a decrepit evil voice, "TRUUUST ME DUSKYYY, I'm the one you should TRUUST!" He emphasized over dramatically. But couldn't help but laugh at the end.
Lex laughed with Dusky about the silliness of it all. "Seems a trend, herbs ruining your life. Twice now it's herbs' fault that you're away from Shule, isn't it? Though I can't complain about the first time too much, after all, that's how I got you."
Dusky touched his nose to Lex in affection before nuzzling in closer to his fathers side, "That's true, I'm happy I met you. I don't think I'd want to be friends with the person I would have become if Sean and Shule raised me," He said and caught him in surprise that he hadn't called Shule mom. He supposed it just felt confusing all over again. No one really felt entirely like a mom, but also, maybe that was kind of the thing. Glow and Shule's efforts sort of made a well balanced mom. "But I like how you raised me and wish you raised Cinnamon too, maybe he wouldn't be so annoying if you did!"
Lex gave Dusky a lick across the ears as he scooted closer. "I'm not sure I'd want to be friends with the me that didn't raise you, either. Of all the potential versions of ourselves that could have existed, I think we ended up as the ones we were meant to. As for Cinnamon. Annoying as he might be, I'm sure he still cares about you. Even if he won't admit it."
"I hope so, I do like playing with him, although I don't know if he knows I'm playing with him?" He tried to explain, "Okay, so it's more like he yells and calls me something like a SunClan follower and then I pretend to be a lunatic villain. And he might think that that's exactly how I am? We have a complicated friendship. But that's okay right?" He asked looking to his dad for approval.
"Not the worst sibling relationship I've seen. But it might go far to show you care on occasion. Maybe get him nuggets, that will definitely put him in a good mood." Lex mused. "I like seeing you have fun, but I'd hate for you to end up accidental enemies over a misunderstanding, you know. It's been a while since all you kids hung out together." He commented in a foreshadowing voice.
"Oh god, why'd you say it like that?" The ever observant Dusky said with cautious laughter, "But uh yeah, we haven't really hung out. I mean they're both kind of crazy, I just don't understand what their deal is. They act like they want nothing to do with me and then want to hangout with me. Did you have siblings? Is that just a normal thing?"
"Call it fatherly intuition." Lex stated vaguely, smiling to himself. "I had siblings, but they all died in SunClan. My littermates all failed initiation and were killed. I was the only one to pass. My younger siblings passed or disappeared from SunClan one by one." His voice had less emotion than it should have, as if he'd locked away his feelings about the even long ago, and were commenting on the situation as a casual observer.
