Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
The ceremony was over, blood had been shed, and Aspenstar once again felt alive for the first time in days. The satiation of her desire for revenge wasn't enough to absolve her clanmate's of their dismal failure, but it was enough to allow the leader to relax just a little bit. Perhaps relaxing was a strange thing to do, being that now more and more cats were starting to be distrustful of her, especially as she murdered Stormreign in front of them. Of course, there were some who still agreed with the leader- after all, it wasn't... unwarranted, necessarily. He had killed her, and the few who knew exactly what that had meant for her were still at her side. Still, she was feeling more and more alone. Perhaps that was why she was starting to feel relaxed again; she was comfortable with being alone. The last six months had taught her that expecting anything from those around her was a futile effort. Perhaps it was simply better if she accepted this fact now. It wasn't like she needed them. Aspenstar needed no one.
She let out a sigh, before glancing down into the water, for a moment considering the absolute tranquility of the silence of the night.
“Well,” Kier greeted casually, padding up behind her and sitting down beside her without asking for permission; with his respect for her having grown at the meeting, he was now less intent on the prior plan of exploiting a paranoid tyrant and content to relax into what may end up being a long haul working relationship. He was in no hurry now to usurp her; he loved to serve, and serving her megalomania would be no hardship. As such, the obsequious flattery slipped a little and gave way to a more generous glimpse into Kier’s actual personality. It was a show of highest esteem, this unstudied honesty. He truly was growing to like Aspenstar. And he’d been nothing but delighted at the unexpected outburst of savagery; blood had spurted across him and it had been like a dream, nothing but euphoric, wide-eyed grins as he watched Aspenstar’s violence. A line of that blood was still scattered across his chest; he hadn’t had time to clean it off yet.
“That went well. Aside from those two Guards — I know it’s not my place to say, and no one likes someone coming into their home and commenting on the dirty laundry, but they would surely benefit from a measure of,” he looked out over the water, eyes quietly hateful, “discipline.” Those two would be his greatest challengers in NightClan, he could feel it; already they were pitted against each other and Kier, petty in his superior rank already, was eager to get rid of them.
"They've proven to be a mistake since the day their first mission," the leader agreed without pomp and circumstance, her eyes narrowed. "The entire guard is filled with failures, with cats who can't tell their tail from their nose." She didn't turn her head in his direction. Instead, the tyrant watched his reflection next to her own in the water. "I suppose that's what happens when you put your faith into cats who are just as worthless as the rest of the world thinks they are." She spoke with a level of boredom in her voice, one that covered a thick aggravation. No one, no one deserved to be on her guard. They had all failed her, and she had half a mind to demote them all. "The only reason they don't end up the way their superior did," bleeding, twitching, eyes foggy, "is strictly due to strategy. The guard is respected in NightClan. They already think that I was a little ... nefarious with my dealings; the last thing we need is for them to mutiny because I disposed of NightClan's Next Top Couple."
"It was clearly my own mistake that they ended the way they did. I knew they were promising, I should have taken them myself. I thought Larkspur would have been able to handle them on her own, but it seems that she corrupted them into guilt and morality." She laughed, before dipping her paw into the water. The blacks of her paint and the blood of Stormreign dispersed in the water. "What a waste of potential, to succumb to a sense of right and wrong. I told Larkspur at the beginning that there was no place in this life for musings about good and evil. If she just accepted that no one was good, that we all were just doing what we need to do with what we have, that there was no StarClan, no loving force meant to help us, she would still be with us today. Instead, she rejected my teachings, instead corrupting the two apprentices that showed any damn chance of being great." She let out a sigh.
"Things are going to change. You have my full permission to do whatever you please with Sagebristle and Moonblight to whip them back into shape. If you cannot, we will plan accordingly." Her tail flicked back and forth as she started to scrub her paws, more for something to do than anything else. Anger flashed behind her gaze. "As for the others, a new era of NightClan is coming. They will either rise with the tides or drown in the water, and frankly, Kier, I don't give a damn which they choose. As a lot of them, they mean absolutely nothing to me, every single life expendable. If they wish to rise to the occasion, to shed their failures, I will help them, mold them, shape them into the greatness I thought they universally had. If they don't, well..." Aspenstar let out a laugh, turning her head to him for the first time.
"If they don't, we'll just have to deal with them accordingly, mmm?"
