Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Goldengrace had been in an arranged marriage with Festeringfruit since the moment Bloodycrow had declared it so.
And admittedly despite the two not doing much together, it was clear others denoted them as so. As being Goldengrace and Festeringfruit.
That since neither had rejected it, it must be so.
Goldengrace though was tired of being stuck in limbo. She didn't feel anything for Festeringfruit, barely knew him besides that he had come off as controlling when they had to appear together during Bloodycrow's reign.
So the best way to confront the issue.
Was to march right up to him in the middle of camp and say, "We need to talk Festeringfruit, come with me," She said beckoning him to go aside.
She might be willing to make a scene and leave everyone wondering what was up, but she wasn't about to air all her grievances and address the elephant in the room in front of the whole clan.
"Whatever you say, mate," Festeringfruit replied with a lazy smirk.
He spent very little time with Goldengrace; in fact, other than taking great pleasure in calling her his mate, he did not speak to her at all. Neither of them seemed interested in the other and that suited him fine. Festeringfruit wasn't much more the pawsy, gooey, affectionate love they saw in other couples; it just amused him to know that Littlestar's daughter was his and his alone. He had a claim no other cat could rival.
He rose to his paws and shook out his fur. The dense curls on his chest had mostly regrown over the year since Weepingpaw had ruined them, though they were a shade paler than the rest of his fur.
Goldengrace shuddered but managed to put on a passingly polite smile.
She led him away, nodding to anyone they passed to be polite before coming to a stop and rounding on him once they were outside of camp and alone.
"All right, that's enough. The only reason we're mates is because Bloodycrow declared it so. Everyone just presumes since we haven't said anything against that's the way it is." Goldengrace began pelt bristling out.
"The thing is you barely so much as look at me, much less show me an ounce of affection. I'm not looking for a cat to fall at my paws like my Daddy does for Mama, but I want a cat that at least talks to me." Goldengrace said.
"I've been waiting for you to say something since it's clear you have no interest in me, and I thought I'd give you the chance to bow out, but I can't take it anymore so I'm gonna be the one to start this conversation. Now do you actually care about me or not? Because if not then it's time we go on our separate ways."
Festeringfruit looked bored. Nothing she was saying here was new. Bloodycrow did arrange them and it was sensible to presume they were still mates, because she hadn’t taken the initiative to end it either. Until now.
His head cocked. “Why care now?” he asked. “What changed?” Festeringfruit gave her only a second to answer before he went on. “I don’t care for you one bit. If you died tomorrow, I wouldn’t shed a tear. But if you wanted me to be affectionate, you should have asked. How am I supposed to read your mind?”
His tail tapped on the ground and the little tom looked vaguely annoyed. “If it ain’t broke, why fix it?”
Goldengrace huffed. "Well if you don't care for me, then why continue this farce?" She asked. "What's the point in you being affectionate if you feel nothing for me. Especially if you won't miss me when I'm gone!"
"And what do you mean if I wanted you to be affectionate. It's what mate's do! Mates are in love, we have a whole festival for that reason!" Goldengrace pointed out. "What I don't understand is if you don't love me, why not just say so and end it."
