The city was his prowling ground. Surely it was no garden of Eden, but to Edom, this was the city of sin, the city to indulge in all of his vices. The city took in all its poor, its weak, its hungry, and he was the kingpin, the devil in disguise, dressed in a tuxedo of black and white. He sat upon his gilded throne atop a stone plinth by a dark fence, on the crossroads between the city and the suburbs where the cats searched for food, amusement on his gaze as he brought food to those who were loyal to him, eyes glittering like a guardian angel standing above the few cats who traded information for his goods, only to see an unfamiliar cat, stalking over to his crowd.
A wild cat, he could tell from the moment he saw her. He loved a good conversation with the wild ones; they were always so...deluded. Interesting. Confused. He chuckled as he leaped down, the others making way for him to walk, as he sauntered to the new face. "Good evening," he greeted with a low purr, "I haven't seen you around."

It irritated Kate that so many cats were here and around. Yet, why? Her eyes shifted along the cats, like they were gathered for something. Or rather, someone. It was then that a cat suddenly jumped down, right in front of her. Kate did not jump, instead, she raised her head a little taller, twitched her whiskers as if she were unamused. "Nor have I you." She retorted back hotly, hazel eyes unflinching as she met this tom's gaze.
Who was he, and what could he even want with her? And all these other cats...? Of course, Kate was curious, alarmed? Not exactly. It would take a lot to really get underneath her skin.

He gave her a laugh. "Oh, I suppose it's usually a mutual thing huh?" he grinned, before giving her a little bow, a smile on his face. This cat surely was one of those forest cats; he recognized the attitude all the same. "Let me introduce myself, my name is Edom," he hummed, "and yours? Are you here for something to eat, or something to exchange?"

The way he carried himself set Kate on edge. Her body language was almost impossible to control, and if one looked close enough they could see the twitching of her stubbed tail. A flash of anger slid momentarily along her features as she realized that this tom was managing to intimidate her. It was a bit confusing, as Kate hadn't felt that way about very many cats she'd encountered.
"Kate."
Her voice was level as she could make it, and her eyes followed his every move carefully. His confidence twisted her stomach, all the eyes on her made it feel like she had fleas crawling in her pelt. This place was not something Kate was used to, but this is what she got when she left camp alone. Restless, explorative, she ran her paws right into trouble. Trouble went by another name, Edom, apparently.
"So you trade things, then?" She mewed, glancing around at his guests.

The tom didn't seem to notice the rise of her hackles or the twitch of her tail, or even if he did, he hadn't reacted to it. "Kate," he spoke, repeating her name. Not the sort of name of those forest-dwelling groups, sure, but he had met other cats with normal names who dwelled in the forest too. Surely she hadn't been the only one, he figured. He flashed her a smile, the kind of smile an old man at a park would give a lost child as he tried to find the child's mother, perhaps, yet a little less pitying and sympathetic, and a little more amused.
Trade things? "I suppose I do," he shrugged, turning to her, "you're not a city cat." He didn't leave room for argument. "You seem like you're new to this place, but the city's different from the forest; you don't have groups of cats that share things. Here, it's every cat for himself, and let's just say if you want something, you've got to have something to offer back. City wouldn't run properly otherwise, you know. So, miss Kate, what do you have to offer around here? Or are you just taking a look around, browsing for a new home?"

She observed the tom rather carefully. She had this deep embedded feeling that he would have some sort of impact on her life. Regardless of how or why. Her instincts told her to get away from him, she knew deep in the pit of her stomach that he was pure trouble. Nothing good could come of this.
However... Kate was afraid of nothing. And rebellious... was an understatement.
"I'm quite fine with the home I'm in." She stated, her chest puffing out a bit, and her eyes shifting along his form. His vibe radiated power here. A power she craved so deeply at home. "I'm nothing close to a city cat." She responded dryly, her stubby tail wiggling again. "Perhaps... I simply wanted to see what this place... held."

He gave her a smile, one that held a silent question. Are you? Still, it didn't matter to him what she felt of her home; he had deemed her more a visitor than a stray looking for a home. She was right, after all; she was nothing like a city cat. "So you want to see this place," he hummed, looking out to the streets of the city already. "How about I make you a deal? I'll show you some of the places around here where the local cats hang about, and you'll answer the questions I have of the forest?"
He gave her a smile, soft and sweet and nothing poisonous at all. "I've never been into the forest; I've always been curious of it."

His proposal made her ear flick, as if she were thinking on this. The hair on the back of her neck stood up further as her instincts tried to drive her away from this tom, but she felt compelled to dive deeper into this trap. Kate was still young, and a bit foolish... reckless even. Her sharp eyes shifted along his form before she felt a smile pull along her lips. "Deal."
She'd made a deal with the devil, and she'd find that out later...

He gave a grin. "Deal," he purred, as he sauntered towards the streetlamps that headed into the city. He hummed to himself. "Well, I suppose the park is a must for every newcomer," he spoke, more to himself than to Kate, "and the churchgrounds are a pretty popular gathering ground...anything you'd like to see in particular?"

The grin he gave fluffed her fur. Huffing a little to herself as he turned away from her and began to make his way in the direction of the city. Kate watched him for a moment, almost hesitating. Finally she pushed herself forward and began to follow after the tom. Edom was something Kate found curious. What gives him that type of power here in the city? Kate found herself questioning as she began to follow him.
There was a split moment when she almost walked slightly behind him. However, she straightened herself and pushed her chest out a little more, matching his pace and standing right beside him. "That was a lot of cats of the city gathered there." He had seemed the center of attention. She then answered his question quickly,"Give me the whole tour." Her green eyes turned to him, trying to read his face.

She was a cat who marched to the beat of her own drum; Edom smiled at that. How similar she seemed to Chelsea when she was younger, he thought. "Well let's start with the most obvious," he chuckled, "have you ever seen the inside of a church? It's where the humans go to pray to their gods. Are you religious, sweetheart?"

Sweetheart. It made her ears hot, and Kate found herself pressing her lips firmly together as she tried to focus on what he'd even said other than that. Flustered, she had to gather herself again before she could speak. Yet, her voice seemed a tad bit weaker than before. "I don't believe I've ever considered anything of the sort." She admitted.

He chuckled at that. "Don't worry, I didn't expect you to," he replied smoothly, "it's interesting though, how many cats cross here with their strange religions. Is it true that the forest cats believe in some group of cats in the stars, or is that just a rumour?"

"I think you're referring to the clan cats." She muttered lightly. Though, again. Kate had never truly considered any type of religion, she simply just lived.

"That sounds about it," he chuckled, "you're a forest cat, no? Wouldn't that make you a clan cat?" Edom had heard of the different groups of course, but he feigned ignorance still. He knew there were other groups, and frankly, he was more than curious about them. "What kind of cats did you live around?"

Kate found herself snorting in distaste and offence. "We are not clan cats. They life soft lives with a code that grants such comfort." Kate shook her head. "No, I live in the league, where you fend for yourself. If you don't know how to fight, you'd better find a way to make yourself useful, or you'll likely be killed." She spoke as if these were normal things, as if death was simply a part of life. Which, it was, but it was more cruel than the lavish life she imagined the clan cats living.

The league? He had met a couple of the clan cats a couple weeks back, FallClan was it? They had mentioned that cats without silly little two-part names were part of these other groups; whatever the league was, that was one of the few places they had mentioned. "Oh do tell me more, sweetheart," he purred, his tail brushing against her flank, "what's the league like?"

Kate almost tripped. It was the slightest of change in her stride, the slight catching of her breath as she tried to function through it. The way he drew out a pet name sweetheart his voice sounding so sleek, and brushed his tail along her back. It sent electric shocks through every little hair on her pelt. Yikes... The calico thought as she attempted to shove whatever weird knot that had formed in her throat, away.
Gathering herself, she slowed slightly and made a side step. Alarms flashing in her head as she found herself in low key panic mode.
In truth, this was Kate's first interaction with a cat that had been family or the cats leading the league. Each encounter of her life was lacking in any type of physical touch. Especially since her father had died. He'd been the one to snuggle into his daughter, or clean her furs. Now, she was alone, and simply liked it that way.
Yet the touch was also enough to send her recoiling back into this thickly walled and shut off cat.
The feelings she found herself flip flopped between, were confusing for her.
"Ruthless, and power hungry." She finally spoke, letting her eyes stay forward as she walked, as if looking at him would set off another round of confusing emotions.

Ezekiel chuckled. To him, Kate's words sounded like what a teenager would say to defend their gang, but alas, what was a kittypet to think about the politics of the forest. "How's that any different from any of the other groups of wild cats in the forest?" there was a tease in his voice, a lilting amusement within his tone, the boyish gleam in his gaze was almost playful. He had noticed the way she slowed, wondering if the touch of his pelt against hers had been the cause of that. The ladies always told him he was a flirt, and he had never stopped his ways.

Thing is, Kate was not like the cats he'd likely fooled around with. Kate was a fighter, lacking in the lover department. Naïve, really in that. She found that love was not an option, feared love even. Feared physical touch, feared any type of connection possible. Perhaps that came from her deeply rooted abandonment issues. Kate felt awkward almost, her stubbed tail flicking back and fourth nervously.
"Cats in the league are not like cats of the clans. Clan cats would rather banish you for something than kill you. League cats would rather torture you until they get what they want, or simply find fun in seeing the color of blood. If you get lucky enough, they'll give you a quick death, however, it's not many who get that."
