Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Decided to make a little training / bonding thread c: don’t feel pressured to reply !! pao
Lilydawn had never been the most confident cat, she was self-loathing, had deeply concealed anxiety, the pessimistic view that nothing she did would ever work out because it never had before. For some reason, luck never seemed to be on her side. When Wintrystar had assigned her an apprentice, she wasn’t exactly overjoyed (though she wasn’t happy with many of Wintrystar’s decisions due to mainly petty reasons), but she had been more nervous than anything. This young life was practically in her paws, it was up to Likydawn to make her a functioning member of Winterclan when she hardly was one herself. It made her prickle with shame. She was trained as a Summerclan cat, how was she supposed to teach anything else?
Though her anxiety was strong, her spite was a little stronger. She wanted to be better, raise the best little soldier and have it all attributed to herself, because then finally she could be happy about something. So, after making sure her usually messy pelt was pinned down and neat, she finally approached, having given Halfpaw a couple days to settle into her new life.
“Halfpaw?” Early in the morning, she peaked her head into the apprentice’s den, hardly lowering her volume. She tried to keep her voice stern. “Up, up, come on, we’ve got to get goin’”
I honest to god forgot what cat of mine I assigned to be mentored by you lol good thing your said her name at the bottom. Heads up, she’s Roseshade’s niece (the witch or mc) and practically raised by her. She’s held to a high standard because of that as well as her bloodline being strong so I’m planning for a mental break down form the pressure. Really the surface pressure song from Encanto is very fitting for her lol But I’m thinking her aunt will want her to have a different me for once she realizes how anxious lilydawn is and get her reassigned. But it’d be cool if they develop a friendship from this failed mentorship? If your down that is. They can be anxiety friends lol
Halfpaw was nervous to start her first day. Her aunt had reassured her all would be fine and so had her dad, he’d even given her a grin of encouragement. But the she-cat was scared to fail. Her family was of string ties to the clan, her aunt the witch and her bloodline an old one. Expectations for her to be great or even better than great were high. Already she’d heard whispers about who her mate would be, guessing games on what cat she’d be betrothed too. With a brave face, she stepped out of the students den and faced her fate. She would be great, or fall apart trying. “Good morning.”
omg i watched encanto recently and loved it that's such a good idea <33 it'll work very well with lily's character as well! because she's probably not a very good mentor to begin with PLUS it'll add to her feelings of not being able to do anything right and that she's like cursed or something. they can both be deeply insecure together yaaay !! she's the adoptive daughter of like four separate leaders so she gets it
The apprentice's anxiety was almost painful to be around — and Lilydawn had thought she was nervous — so, as Halfpaw made her way towards her, she gave her a reassuring smile. Her brave face was easy to se through, did nothing to hide the way she stood, the look in her eyes, or perhaps Lilydawn was simply hypersensitive to the emotions of others, despite how much she disregarded them. Originally, she wasn't going to start too easy, because she imagined the best way to learn was to simply do, over and over again until it was done right, but seeing her student now, she took a few mental steps back.
"'Morning," she greeted back, led her towards the tunnel that led out of camp, clearing her throat awkwardly before continuing, "we'll start easy today, learn the territory as we go — and when we get out there I want you to memorize the path we take, okay, because you're going to lead us back after." As they arrived outside, Lilydawn shaking out her dense fur, she finally got a good look at Halfpaw. Lilydawn wasn't a tall cat by any means, her legs were short, she was stocky, even her ears were tiny, and Halfpaw was almost bigger. Anyone could assume Lily was the apprentice instead.
With a quick look around, assessing where they were going to go first, she began their little journey, moving around the student and downhill, where the land sloped. It was a sunny, day, the snow around them reflected and glittered. "I think the most important thing out here is tracking, knowing your surroundings. It's not like any old regular clan is going to come here for a fight, we'd always go there, so we can save any battle training for another day. But there's plenty of natural dangers that you need to be careful of — eagles, holes that are hidden by the snow, where the prey hides, cliffs, all that," she settled into a more confident role, now, being able to talk freely, and secretly she was listing the things that had made moving to Winterclan that much more difficult, things she didn't know she had to watch out for. She gave Halfpaw room to ask questions as well.
(So her anxiety hasn’t reached a point yet that she had her mental breakdown. Still building up to taht. Right now she’s a normal student nervous about her first day. She’s hearing more and more whispers so that’s not helping her nerves any. Soon! She’ll have her breakdown and just be a constant anxious mess.)
Halfpaw couldn’t help the nervous look she was giving off. Even though it had only been a few days since she’d been promoted, there were whispers surrounding her and her sister. Would they be like their mom? Or maybe like their dad? Would one of them become the pupil to their aunt? What about their engagement? And on and on the whispers went. Halfpaw didn’t really understand half of them, but she was still a bit naive and and innocent. Soon though, that would change and it was not a day she would look back upon fondly.
“Right. I can do that.” She was partially whispering to herself, determined to be great even if it was only her first day. She didn’t want to fail, she would get them back all on her own! The she-cat held her head high, feeling confident in herself and stepped beside Lilydawn out into the territory for the first time in her life. And then, her eyes went wide. Everything was covered in a thick layer of snow, the sun glinted off the edges and cast shadow in its wake. The ice looked smooth and the sounds. Gosh the sounds. Birds, and squirrels, the wind. It…it was amazing!and she was being left behind. The student scrambled to catch up, a little red in the face form her embarrassment but the smile didn’t fade even a little.
“How do you track anything in all of this snow?” Sure, she’d always know they lived in a snowy land, but to know it and see it were completely different things. As kits, her and Mistypaw had been kept close to the hot springs and it warmth especially because of how sickly her sister got. So it didn’t really leave them a chance to see the outside world until now. And what a wander it was!
She felt a slight affection creeping up on her as she turned her head to watch Halfpaw catch up — though Lilydawn had to remind herself she was simply a teacher and nothing more, that she still owed Winterclan for letting her stay even as much as she wasn't too fond of the place.
How do you track anything in all of this snow? She shrugged first, realized the student was supposed to actually learn something before she cleared her throat, still continuing their way down the slope until it began to steady a little, leading to straight land, "well, first, after a while you just get used to it. Then you can pick up tiny hints of things, but often the snow gets covered sooner or later, especially in the colder, colder months, so what I usually do is look to the things surrounding the area." She stopped, suddenly, as the neat snow gave way to more dirt, rocks, and pines, the distant rumble of a waterfall sounding far off, like a small, flickering echo.
"Don't use the snow," she directed Halfpaw to one of the trees, "often, prey will shelter near more closed areas, and that includes trees — see anything? Smell it, I find that the scent lingers longer then it does on the ground. You've got to take everything in, all your senses are incredibly useful, you just have to, y'know, use them." It wasn't difficult to miss the own anxiety in her voice, the way she rambled when she usually didn't. She tried to let Halfpaw figure most of the stuff out on her own, offered instructions but not demonstrations, hoped it worked out in the way she wanted it too, though her tail still twitched.
