He blinked, his brows knitting slightly. Even though he kept to his task, his gaze hardened a bit, "Oh." He mewed, his voice soft again, but short. For a second he wondered what it would be like to stay here, and closed his eyes. He shook it out of his mind though, the picture of a cat like him, bespeckled and sad, washed over him, and he too shook that one. It would seem that for him there was no reprieve, not even for a second, from the learning experience his past had given him.
Unknown to what was befalling the tom’s thoughts, she felt his body change slightly. That was enough to kick her back into reality. Something had changed in just a few seconds about him. Icedivy pulled away, her bi-colored eyes shifting across his features before she stood, and began to walk, not looking back. “Let’s get back. It’s getting late, and we have a rather long walk ahead of us.” Her voice had changed, was it disappointment that laced them? Sadness even?

He met her gaze, his face softening a bit as he realized he was being studied. She moved away too fast for him to do anything, or even to say anything. He paused after standing, watching her walk some ways away from him before he began to follow after her, staying quiet. He went to speak a couple times, but stopped himself, allowing her to lead the way as he flanked her, imagining what it would be like if their roles were reversed.
Perhaps if their roles had been different, they might not even know each other well. Perhaps... their paths may have hardly ever crossed. Now that they worked so closely together, it was easy for them to spend much time together. Icedivy walked in silence, unaware that the tom was attempting to find words. Instead, she soon lost herself in her own thoughts as they walked with nothing but the wind in their ears.

Looking ahead, he too stayed quiet. He wondered what she thought about. He didnt really know much about her, even now. As they came to the border back to winterclan he had picked up enough of a pace to walk next to her. He gave her a small smile from a side eyed glance, something more of a formality than anything that had meaning. Something was wrong again, and he couldnt fix it this time.
Why was it her heart felt odd? Ached in confusion and longing? Icedivy swallowed again, her mouth twitching in a half smile as well. “Too bad I fell in.” She muttered. “Maybe next time?” She wondered if they would have that same alone time once more. Probably not, with the way Leatherstar had them running about constantly. He was always making them raid this place and that place. It was almost exhausting.

His smile grew a bit, looking aside at the snowy ground, "Maybe one day," he repeated, "Theres many a place even within our territory that no ones really found, but thats for another day too." He explained, moving again towards camp at a slow pace. He felt sad, if onlt for a moment, and then dislodged a bit of the knot in his throat, looking back to see if she was coming, wondering why he cared so much.
It took a while, but soon they began to near the camp. The white she-cat glanced to the jarl and offered another light hearted smile. “Looks like it’s time to split ways. I’m a bit tired anyways, and I believe my nest might be a little warm. I hope.” She laughed softly, eyes lingering for a moment.

He smiled back, chuckling a little, "If you want you can have one of the rabbit pelts I have in mine," he offered. Although he was supposed to sleep in the warriors den with everyone else he had found a dugout on the other side of the announcement rock from Leatherstars den. He had began holing himself up in there, it wasnt a large space, but it was enough. Either that or he would just go to the den that had the least amount of warriors in it.. Lots of times it was the tunnels. No one seemed to like using them. He kept his eyes on her, "Itll be cold tonight," he mused, tipping his head.
Icedivy dipped her head slightly as she looked to her paws. It was then she realized she was shuffling them a bit nervously. Snapping out of the way she seemed to be acting, her gaze lifted and she mewed,”Yes... the air is already growing colder. Perhaps one of the coldest we have had this leaf bare.” She didn’t look forward to it.

"Then come on," he mewed, walking towards his den with a small pep in his step. He paused as he walked by the fesh-kill pile though, grabbing a larger vole before carrying on. His tail tip twitched as he walked, looking towards her as he set the rodent down, "Here, you can go in first," he motioned, waiting for her to step inside so he too could get out of the growing cold. Part of the secret was that his den was somewhat underground in the first place, the cold never really touched him at all.
She paused before following him. Observing the tom carefully for a moment, before giving the faintest of smiles. She then began to follow Sweetpine, stopping as he grabbed prey and continuing. Once they came to the leader’s announcement rock, she found herself curious. His words urged her inside, and she went without hesitation. Though, she didn’t expect that it was sloping down.

He followed behind her. His den was somewhat spacious. Still, enough to house him. It was a quarter of open floor and the rest was rabbit pelts and feathers. He had a particular way about eating. And it really only made sense when looking down here. His nest itself was enough to fit a cat and a half, at least. He liked to sprawl out. He shimmied his way around her. Placing the vole where there was no existing bedding, all with a small smile. He was just glad the tips of his ears finally seeming to defrost.
Icedivy was especially cold, her furs had tiny icicles on them from the water she had fallen in to. She wondered how he had managed being wet so easily. The feline gazed around, the lighting was rather dark here, but she could see just enough. A small purr rumbled in her throat. No draft came through here, it was actually rather cozy. “Wow..” she breathed in. “Nice setup you have here.”

He chuffed, "Yeah its hard to do the whole 'Jarl duties' when I stay here. I try not to stay here too often, nothing really ties me to it anyways, so it works," he explained, sitting down next to the vole on the open floor, letting her look about. "You can stay and warm up," he offered, watching her shiver just a bit, "Im sure youre not dry yet, the cold has a way of doing that. And the warriors den wont help." He continued. The dusky tom closed his eyes a little bit, rolling his shoulders as he settled down, giving the fur on his chest a quick lick.
Icedivy shook out her coat, then lowered herself to the den’s floor. She nudged the prey closer to him, a small indication she was wishing to share the prey with the tom. “When did you find this?” She asked, for pure sake of conversation. After she asked, she bit into the prey.

Sweetpine blinked, lowering himself as well. "Back when I first came here. I know normally Jarls stay with the thanes, but I wasnt the most liked. Still not, to be fair. But I slept outside of the meteor for a while before finding this. I got my foot stuck in it." He chuckled, taking a bite out of the prey. His tail flicked idly as he relaxed, his eyes somewhat glazed as he looked her over, her pelt bright in the dim light.
Icedivy could feel her shivering begin to diminish. There was no wind here, and despite the earthy smell, it was comfortable. The white feline breathed in softly after swallowing. “Just pure luck, then?” She truthfully couldn’t recall when he had joined the clan. It had been a time when she was distracted with duties. Usually she had always found herself wrapped in the clan’s life.

"Finding this thing? Yeah I guess so," he mewed, taking another bite of the rodent. He shuffled his paws along the ground. Nothing came up like the dust that rose from the could ground outside. He licked his chest, flattening the fur there. Maybe he should have just stuck through the ostracizing remarks from the thanes. He didnt know many of them now. It would have helped him, but he didnt really care.
“How come others weren’t nice to you?” She outright asked the tom, quite curious. He had managed to work his way to jarl rather quickly, and she couldn’t help but wonder how he had managed such a feat. It was not easy, moving up in rankings. She knew that very well herself.
