His pelt was clean, pristine today. He had spent close to an hour primping it. He wanted to look well enough off after he had ended up chasing a rabbit into a slush-filled mudpit the previous day. He had recently stopped by the warriors den, checking in on his new frozen. He hadn't talked to her much, but she had won the battle in the arena not long ago and he meant to see about helping her with any wounds she may have endured. It was a rough fight from what he had seen. Yet he had not seen her around. He wondered where the white she-cat had been.
She had to rest and have time to heal. Icedivy had done well in the fight, so well that she had killed her opponent. Though she was not proud of that part, it made her shiver at the thought. The dying light in her clanmate’s eyes haunted her, and made her feel rather guilty. Yet, she had to come out of the thoughts that plagued her mind. Just as he was heading towards the warrior’s den, she was slipping out of it.

His eyes widened as he spied her. She wasn't too easy to pick out from a crowd unless he looked upon her face, but he could tell it was her already. He picked up the pace, closing in on her with a light step. "Icedivy," he called, touching her shoulder with a tail-tip, "Good to see you," he mewed, the sound almost a purr.
Her name jerked her back to reality. Icedivy lifted her head, her eyes instantly meeting the jarl’s It wasn’t quite what she had expected, then again, new to the position she should expect that the tom wished to speak to her. A smile pulled along her lips, the fight only a night ago now leaving her mind. Well, for the moment.
“Sweetpine.” She greeted him just as he had her, with the name.
“You as well. How are you fairing?” The conversation seemed oddly formal at the moment. Perhaps they could break the ice soon.

"Im doing well enough," he smiled, something soft, not a whole smile. Since he had joined his original home he had found himself smiling less. "Are you feeling okay? You did very well yesterday..." he looked down at her paws, remembering how she was in the arena. Almost a different cat than the one before him, "Leatherstar is very brash in the way he chooses to settle things, oftentimes." he explained.
The way the tom smiled seemed fake. Not that he was trying to lie to her, but fake in a way that seemed forced. As if his smile was something he really didn’t want to do. She noticed small things like that about others. Icedivy wondered what made him feel uncomfortable in his own home, perhaps something of his past? When he looked to her paws, she was again reminded combined with his words. Yes, she had acted fast and cunningly. It was a nice compliment, but she wondered if even that, weee genuine from him. “Thank you.” Then as his words continued she nodded in agreement. “Perhaps it is better that way.” Perhaps not.

The jarl nodded, looking about them for a moment. He cleared his throat when it became a longer pause then he wanted. "Are you... heading out for the day?" he asked, tail flicking as he twitched his ears. For whatever reason this was unnatural of a conversation for him. He was unsure why this was so bizarre. He shivered slightly so release some tension between his shoulders, but kept his focus on the molly.
The way he hesitated with his words was ever the more curious. Icedivy responded with ease. “Yes, that was the plan. Unless you have anything else in mind, or maybe needed me for something?” The last of her words seemed to go up a little in tone, changing the sentence more so to a question. She saw him shiver, but was polite enough not to ask for the reason in doing so.

"No, nothing in particular," he explained, tilting his head, "Will you be hunting your breakfast or sharing it here? Either way I'd like to join you," he offered, shuffling his bespeckled paws. He wasn't sure what was on the pile or hiding in snowbanks from their latest raid, but he was sure there was something big enough for two cats somewhere.
I wonder if there is a particular reason he wants to join... Perhaps simply to get to know me. I don’t feel I would be comfortable myself trusting someone I hardly knew to protect me. Company was always nice. Icedivy waved her tail towards the exit of the camp. “I was planning on hunting something. Leave the prey here for the kits and thanes. I’m more than capable to wait. You’re more than welcome to join.” Her last words were simply to assure him that he would not be intruding on her plans. Her bright eyes then pulled away from the jarl and towards the exit. With a flick of her tail she began to head that way, knowing full well that Sweetpine would follow.

He nodded as well, heading after her. "Sounds good to me," he mewed, a light tone tied to his words for once. "Do you like any prey in particular?" he asked, catching up so they had the same pace. It was a shame he hadn't gotten to know her before all this mess. Maybe it would have made choosing a frozen easier in the first place.
The white feline broke from the exit of the camp and emerged into a world of snow. It was perfect for her, and made hunting that much easier. The wind was sharp, but her thick coat was enough to shield her somewhat. Out here, she felt free. Inhaling slowly she then set fourth, only then answering the jarl’s question. “I prefer snowhares.” The rabbits were not the easiest to catch, but Icedivy was known for the speed that her long legs gave her. It was a great advantage when hunting, and only a great one in battle if used correctly. One had to be smart, and thankfully she was just that.

The tom smiled, trotting alongside the white she-cat. He stuck out like a sore thumb against their icy surroundings. "Fish," he replied, "The hares are never snowy when I get the chance to catch them," he explained, flicking his tail. His ears twitched, eyes narrowed as he kept a look out against the white back ground. Like her, everything there was to be eaten was blending in or hidden underneath the soft mounds, sleeping peacefully.
Oh! Icedivy could hardly believe her ears. What made a cat want fish, of all things? “Fish?!” A smile flashed along her lips, eyes sparking a sudden curiosity about the tom. Not many winterClan cats even had the slightest interest in fish. It almost made her giggle, but instead a purr started in her throat. “I’ve never heard something so silly before. How do you fish when the water is frozen?” Though it was not to be confused with her making fun of him. There was a playful light in her eyes, and her tone was bright, almost as if he had managed to find something to break the formalities that was wedging between them prior.

He chuffed, a toothy grin coming across his maw. "I have ways, I just don't use them often," he purred. He was glad she found it funny. "I used to eat fish all the time before I came here, its not so silly when you try it," he explained, kicking up bits of snow with his bespeckled paws. "I can show you some time if you'd like." He looked her over, finding humour in her eyes and reflected it in his own, his face soft and kind for once.
Icedivy had held her gaze on the tom as he reacted to her words. Even he seemed to relax too, and it made her smile just a little bit bigger. It was in that moment that the frozen realized the two had put behind the former way they were acting with another and had become a little more acquainted. The white she-cat then stopped, lifting one paw from the snow and quickly catching an itch on one of her ears before speaking. “How about you show me now?”

A chuckle escaped him as he watched her scratch at her ear. It was so funny there, seeing her on three legs just doing natural things, it was organic. It reminded him of his previous home. Warm and soft. He bounced back to reality a bit, and nodded his head about, rolling his eyes up as if he was thinking about it. In actuality he had already decided. "Follow me then," he purred, taking a sharp turn away from the interior of winterclans vast territory.
He was funny even then, the way he feigned thinking about wether or not he should use his time to teach her to fish. When he spoke she flashed another smile. His purr warmed her heart as it traveled to her ears. It was a nice sound, a rather hearttouching one. She seemed lighter in her steps as she followed, this time saying nothing in return. Words could be saved for their fishing trip, which she found herself a little excited about.

He walked for a little while, not saying anything in particular. He knew she would follow behind him, and made sure of that by listening to the sound of her paws on the snow, and then leaves. He slowed as the snow gave way for a warmer floor. Finally he stopped. It was abrupt and his nose crinkled. The jarl looked to his frozen, a smile still on his muzzle, even though his eyes were serious. "Theyre not here now." He explained, "They got lost, I think. But in the mean time they had plenty of streams that flow even though they are frozen on our spot of the mountain. You ready?"
The silence was nice, and comfortable. Icedivy found no need to break it, but soon the jarl did so himself. She listened to the tom, and noticed how he suddenly seemed rather into the subject that was upon them. He seemed proud, proud that he held a skill that most WinterClan cats possessed. She smiled lightly, then his last words came out. “Lost? They get lost?” Fish... lost? It was puzzling to her. Yet, interesting all the same.
