Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Mercury had been chosen when he was just an apprentice, and as a result, Burningstar had thought it to be a good idea to send him to their allies in BrookClan for some training. Though their alliance was iffy, BrookClan's healers seemed fairly capable and she thought it could be a good learning experience for him, as she hadn't wanted to put salt on Bruniaberry's wounds. She understood the she cat had taken being seemingly rejected by StarClan hard.
But now with a moon having passed since Mercury was sent off... and Burningstar had begun to become concerned... and then the cats she'd sent to escort him... only one returned saying they'd run into a dangerous dog like creature that had slain two of the escorts... and Mercury was seemingly lost.
And speaking with BrookClan at the gathering confirmed that Mercury had not reached them... and it was not looking promising. NightClan was now once more without a healer... Though she could ask Bruniaberry to take up the mantle once more... But she doubted the she cat wanted that since StarClan hadn't come to her.
Burningstar heaved a sigh as she settled into her den. Perhaps she'd have to go to the Mooncreek at some point and consult with StarClan... But she needed to rest. Deal's execution, the end of the alliance, freeing DayClan and SpringClan from SunClan and losing her first life had truly worn out the ginger she cat and she wanted to get some much needed rest.
So though the stars gleamed up above in the sky she settled in to rest, and fell asleep once she settled into her nest. Larkwing would have to watch the clan for a while, and Soaringbird taking care of Bonfirekit with the others...
A small smile appeared on her muzzle as she pictured the kits playing together, and she fell asleep with that image in her mind...
When Burningstar opened her eyes, she wasn't in her den, instead she was standing in the moonlight clearing of NightClan's camp. She blinked and looked around confused, disoriented. She'd just been asleep in her den.... Had she sleepwalked out or something?
She heard soft laughter and she turned her head to see several kits playing together. Her eyes softened when she took in their appearances. Little Skykit was tumbling with Brightkit. The two had become fast friends, Brightkit encouraging Skykit despite Soaringbird's... overbearingness if Burningstar was honest with herself. Crowded around them, Turbulentkit was batting around a leaf, while Bonfirekit crouched looking ready to pounce, and Tenaciouskit and Tremulouskit looking on. and Skykit's other siblings were cheering on their sister.
Then she blinked and she was seeing the images of them all full grown. The fully grown Skykit was chatting amiably with Brightkit who was responding just as excitedly. The other kits were also either sharing tongues, or dropping freshkill on the pile.
"They grow up so fast don't they?" A soft voice spoke, making Burningstar's ears prick and she turned to see her own mother, Skysong pad up behind her. The silvery and gray tabby she cat's blue eyes shining with starlight, stars blazing in her fur. Burningstar opened her mouth, it was always a shock to see her mother... Skysong had died before Burningstar had even left the nursery. Skysong glanced behind her and Burningstar followed her gaze blinking at the shadowy shape of a dark ginger she cat tussling with a small silvery gray tabby. Burningstar realized as the image faded away that the image had been of her and Soaringbird. She refocused on her mother, who's eyes were focused on her.
"Kits are the future of our clan." Skysong meowed, "Our future leaders." She nodded to Burningstar, before refocusing on the clearing, Burningstar following her mother's gaze back on the clearing where the full grown kits had been earlier, only two remained now back to their small kit selves. The image of Turbulentkit and Brightkit looked up at Burningstar and Skysong expectantly. "And our future healers." Skysong meowed starlight seeming to gleam around the two kits.
"I... You're saying Turbulentkit and Brightkit are to be the next medicine cats?" Burningstar meowed looking towards the two kits and then back at her mother who was starting to fade. The whole scene was starting to fade. "But mother! They're still so young! I can't push the whole of the clan onto their little shoulders!" She cried.
But there was no response.
Burningstar tried to reach out, but her paw met nothing. And then she found herself blinking awake in her den.
Kits were the future of all clans, that was true. But there was no one to guide the young kits paws to becoming full fledged medicine cats.
Burningstar got up and began to pace in her den, glad she'd sent Lindon out for the night already. How to approach this? It was clear these two were chosen by StarClan to care for the clan. The clan would just have to understand that they were still in training even after they were named. They'd accepted it with Mercury right? ... Though that hadn't exactly gone well. The clan would just have to accept and be patient with the two young kits as they embarked on their journey to becoming full fledged medicine cats.
She nodded to herself. But first she'd go speak with the two kits. Ask them what they thought of it. The cats here were not the playthings of StarClan. If the kits told her they wanted to be warriors, she'd understand. But she had seen Brightkit show interest in the medicine cat den, and Turbulentkit was a very empathetic and caring cat. He would do well as a healer.
Nodding to herself Burningstar exited her den and went over to the area where the kits played, "Turbulentkit, Brightkit, could you come with me into my den for a moment?" She asked.

Brightkit looked up at Burningstar confused. The leader's den? She cast Skykit a with glance. "I-i'll be back, Skykit. Burningstar's calling me." She saw that Turbulentkit too was called as well. What in StarClan is going on?
She quietly followed her leader into her den and sat down, curling her tail around her paws neatly. Oh geez, it's about becoming an apprentice isn't it? No, it can't be. Turbulentkit is like a moon younger than me. Nerves and wild thoughts flurried through her brain.
Turbulentkit had been batting around a small leaf between his paws when Burningstar had emerged from her den to request their presence. He didn't know it yet, but the leaf he had been playing with wasn't just some weed. It was a lamb's ear, a herb used for strength. At the sound of the leader's voice, his large ears parked up and he quickly scrambled nervously to his paws "Yes Burningstar"
He couldn't help but wonder if Burningstar had found out about his little adventure with Skykit, when the two of them decided to try to go and rescue DayClan and SpringClan on their own. While his heart was in the right place, his ambitions to help those around him often got him into mischief. The two of them had not gotten very far, and had been punished by the queens for attempting to sneak out of camp. However, he would do it again. At least he could say that he had tried, that he had not stood idly by while others had suffered.
Burningstar led them into her den and sat down looking at the pair of them. "Brightkit, I know you're nearing 6 moons, and Turbulentkit you're coming up on 5 moons... it'll be early for you to be an apprentice but I have to ask..." She looked at each other them in turn studying them a moment. "Would you both like to learn the ways of StarClan and healing and become medicine cats for NightClan?" She asked.

Brightkit looked at her shocked. A rush of questions hit her head-on.
"W-wha.. wait what?" Her eyes so round, the whites surrounded her green eyes. "Mercury never came back? Who's our medicine cat now? Who's going to teach us?" She looked at Turbulentkit with worry. "I know my dreams have been weird, but StarClan-medicine-cat weird?" Her fur was bristled with fear, but her excitement at becoming a medicine cat shone. "Are we going to be medicine cats together?" Brightkit finished breathlessly.
Burningstar seemed taken aback a bit by Brightkit's questions but she was pleased to see she was interested. "Yes you both will be Medicine cats together, and unfortunately yes, Mercury hasn't returned. StarClan didn't say whether he now walks amongst them... or if something else happened to him. But he is clearly not returning to us either way unfortunately." She murmured amber eyes saddening. "As for who will teach you... Bleakwind and Bruniaberry are familiar with the ways of StarClan and herbs respectively. But I will also be speaking to Glowstar, and working out a plan for you to train under DayClan's medicine cat. I think they will be able to fill in anything that Bleakwind and Bruniaberry cannot for you."
A medicine cat... Well that wasn't exactly part of them plan. He had always thought that he was going to be a warrior, a hero. A cat that other could look up to, someone whom protected the weak. Perhaps one day even becoming a legendary leader, that would make NightClan even greater. That was his dream.
Everyone had always said that he would never be able to acomplish that. The teased him for his appearance, claiming the the heart of a kittypet beat within his chest. Perhaps it did... His mother had been a NightClan warrior, but no one new whom his father was. Perhaps he was a kittypet, but in his soul Turbulentkit knew that he would prove them wrong. He would stand tall, and be the hero he wanted to be.
But what if this was the path that he was meant to take? Perhaps he would still be a hero, but just walk a different path of those before him. A medicine cat was one of the most important members of the clan. They healed the sick, comforted the weak, and spoke with StarClan. Was this the path he was meant to walk?
He sat while the other two talked, before finally speaking "if that is what StarClan wills, then so be it" he smiled a little, a sign that at least some part of him wasn't against the idea.

Brightkit nodded at Turbulentkit's response. "I agree." She puffed out her chest proudly. "For NightClan, anything."
Doubt lingered within her mind, though her outward appearance exuded confidence. What if I'm not good enough? Will I be able to learn everything in time? My Clanmates depend on me!
She tilted her head. "The ceremonies have already happened! When are we going to be apprenticed then?"
"I will announce your apprenticeship as medicine cats to the clan. Bleakwind and Bruniaberry will help get your training started. But i will speak to Glowstar about you either going to DayClan for training or the medicine cats coming here," Burningstar meowed.

Excitement surged through her like lightning. She was going to be an important part of her clan and she was going to support it every step of the way. "Thank you, Burningstar! I won't let you down, er, we won't let you down!"
Turbulentkit dipped his head after Burningstar spoke. He was going to a medicine cat. The thought seemed strange and foreign, but he wanted to do this. To follow the path the StarClan wanted for him.
Surely that knew his hopes and dreams, and this was there way of giving him a way to achieve it.
Burningstar nodded pleased by their acceptance though her gaze was a bit shadowed as she looked towards Turbulentkit. He wasn't quite old enough to be an apprentice, and yet she was naming him not just an apprentice but a medicine cat apprentice early without even a mentor for them.
Sure Bleakwind and Bruniaberry would do well in training them, but she still feared it was such a heavy burden to place on two young cats.
She put on a reassuring look, "Well you two can go ahead and tell your denmates, and anyone else if you'd like. I'll be holding a ceremony for both of you shortly."
The small tom dipped his head once more to Burningstar out of respect before running out of the den after Brightkit. He was glad to see that she was so excited, but it was also bittersweet. He had his two siblings, but both of his parents were gone. He couldn't help but wonder what his mother would have thought of the news.
He smiled slightly, allowing Brightkit to take the lead to begin spreading the good news. He had no doubt that some of the clan wouldn't be happy. After all they would be putting their lives in the paws of two kits.
Skykit had been batting at the mossball, her ears pricked at Brightkit's meow and she lifted her head. "What is it?" She asked.
Soaringbird who rested nearby lifted her head and let out a purr at the excited expression on Brightkit's face. "My you're excited, what did Burningstar have to tell you?" She asked.
Skykit snorted and nudged her friend. "You were going to be made an apprentice this moon anyways, you're going to learn stuff no other warrior will get to! Then you can teach me some of the herbs you learn. Mama says that there's a whole lot of stuff herbs can do. i bet there's herbs that can make a warrior super strong, or make an enemy super weak! Plus you'll be caring for the clan! you'll be able to heal my injuries and I can defend you if anyone tries to hurt you while you heal cats!" Skykit's tail waved. "Besides you've always been drawn to that smelly medicine cat den anyways," She added teasingly. "Now you'll get to live there full time and smell like it too, I'll be able to smell you coming from the other side of the clan!"
Turbulentkit couldn't help but burst out in laughter as the other kit commented on being able to smell Brightkit coming from the other side of the camp. As much as he hated to admit it, that little fact was very true.
"Besides the two of us will be learning together, so you won't really be alone. I'm glad that we will both be apprentices at the same time" The little tom turned to Skykit, a cat that he had come to think of as a friend after their adventurers
Skykit perked up at Turbulentkit's words, "That's true! We're going to all be apprenticed at the same time. I can come by and help you find herbs since I've got a strong sense of smell. Then I can show you some fighting moves."
"that would be great!" he purred, He had always wanted to be a warrior so he hoped that he could at least learn a little bit about fighting. Perhaps she could be the one to teach him. After all he wanted to be more than a simple medicine cat. He wanted to be the clan hero, and being able to fight would only aide him in his goal.
"So make sure you learn lots of cool things about being a warrior so that you can teach us to! We will do our best as well"
