"Do you need me to remind you that you are a Chieftain. Not a simple Clan leader." The cat was but a white frosted shadow. Its large form looming but not ominous or threatening. The tom held his head high and with an air of confidence and earned respect.
"I am not an Ancient though. I can not see into the future as you can, nor can I see into the camp of a sleeping claw from the dens of Asgard." Leatherstar sat facing the tom his shoulders broad but drooping like a heavy weight was lay across them. The arena was still fresh with stains from the frozens' battle. If leatherstar strained his ears he could hear the cries of many many lives lost where he stood. Generations of murder pressed between his toes.
"That is not an excuse." Thunder cracked with the Ancient's voice. Durai didn't have much of a lenience for insolence. "Perhaps this Understar you speak of constantly was right in demeaning you. You do not even see your own potential." The large tom lashed his snowy tail sending a blast of snow into Leatherstar's face.
"I understand the sacrifices, I even understand the raids, but why do you insist I conquer clans? As you say I can barely maintain my own!" The chieftains thoughts briefly flashed to that of his children and his long disappeared mate.
The ancient lowered his tail and calmed the storm raging in his gaze. "Because their is no power in idleness."

Sweetpine sighed. It had been a long, hard while since he had gotten some peace and quiet. He had only come out here to think since he knew that there was no one else about. There was no point in other cats coming out to the arena since the frozens were chosen. He heard a scuffle. Great. He sighed again, head dipping below his shoulders as he came upon the rise over the arena. Leatherstar was there. Not surprising. He had yet to really sit down with the chieftain yet, so of course on the day where he wanted to be alone and think, his leader was there. He wondered what he was doing. Green eyes narrowed, he could make out a waver of the air and wondered what was going on, the muffled sound of the other dusky tom speaking made him crank a brow up. So strange. He crouched, paws tucked neatly under him as if he wanted to become a rock. He shouldn't be able to be seen, but he could watch what was going on.

"And no honor in it either" A fox figured shadow seemed to form from the snow that blew past Leatherstar. Her eyes an icy blue. Bellona was a goddess. A dagger of shadow in a feline form. Even in her half existing form her sharp features could be made out in the haze.
"Is their honor in interrupting peace? More honor perhaps in protecting it?" the dark brown tom seemed unphased by the presence of another ancient.
"WinterClan barely survives off of its own land. You are built for the mountain and the mountain protects you. But it can not provide for you. Peace is detrimental to WinterClan's survival." Durai meowed sharing a knowing glance with his companion.

This was getting bizarre. He couldnt tell what was going on. Maybe Leatherstar had gone mad. He was talking into the wind. He had only heard stories of the other toms vices. Maybe those combined with the constant stimulation from rescuing this clan and fighting that clan had driven him to some degree of madness. He tilted his head. Any more of this and he would have to intervene.

Leatherstar bristled. He refused to give up. There had to be a way for the clan to survive without always stealing and just barely making it through winter. How many more kits would be born into a clan that couldnt protect them form their own territory? Their home!
"I will not accept this!" He hollered, angry at the feeling of helplessness sweeping over him. "I can do something. I just need time to think."
"Time is running out Leatherstar." Meowed a large ginger and brown tom with a deep soothing voice. Vegard was like a ray of sunshine on a cold day. If anyone was on the Leader's side, it was the ancient who himself represented their beloved home and mountain. But even he knew the limits of his own power, even that of the ancients combined couldnt prevent starvation.

The jarl rose, padding slowly down the rocks towards his chief. He gave a cough, not that he had one, just to make noise. His eyes were narrowed. Not filled with the concern that there should have been, but more of the confused anger. His spot for thinking was disturbed and by all things by Leatherstar yelling at the wind. This was not shaping up to be a good day. He coughed again, clearing his throat, knowing that he would have to turn to face him.

As if they had not been there at all the Ancients dissipated before him. Leaving him with more questions than answers. *cough* Leatherstar jerked his head towards the sound. Only to see his Jarl. "Oh Sweetpine. It's you." Leatherstar looked tired. Worn. Twice the age he was. The weight of the mountain on his shoulders.

Sweetpine nodded, hopping down to Leatherstars level. He drew close to him, tail twitching as his ears folded back. He was agitated, but noted that the tom in front of him looked exhausted. His gaze softened a bit, focusing on the other dusky tom and not through him. "Are you feeling well?" He asked, tilting his head.

"Worry and stress can age any cat by a few lives." Leatherstar meowed with a nod in the positive direction. "I argue with Durai and his companions well into the night and would never find my answers to WinterClan's constant fears." The chieftain sighed but his form no longer showed any signs of agitation. "Durai wants us to declare war with every clan everywhere."

"Will you?" he asked, straightening himself out, "If you will it I must follow but surely you know that it will mean extinction for us," he warned, "Durai must know it too." His shoulders rolled, easing a bit upon seeing that his leader was sensible, and not yelling at the wind as he had thought.

"I think He has more faith in our territory than we do. He believes its harsh climate will deter any who tries to bring the battle to us." He shifted his gaze tot he shadows of the drawn on night. "I do think battle is necessary. But I do not want to simply pick a fight with any clan. NightClan has tested our bored far too many times. And Foxstar has it out for me."

Sweetpine nodded. He knew saying much else would cause unwanted tension."Yes, Nightclan will know it's wrongdoings soon enough," he offered, hoping that through constant raiding and antagonizing the nocturnal cats would begin to back off. Winterclans terrain was not free for the taking, and it was odd that Nightclan had even considered shifting their borders in the slightest. There was nothing here for them. As far as Glowstar and her group, that was something else entirely.

"I want to plan a raid on SunClan. They are knocked unsteady by the shift in power and now is the time to topple their little empire." he shifted his feet in the tainted snow. "Littlebird brought to of my children into this world and one of them is destined for WinterClan, I know it." he looked to Sweetpine with dark shadowed eyes.

Sweetpine matched his chieftains gaze, green eyes meeting green. He knew there were blood ties as to why Leatherstar wanted to take down Glowstar so badly, but was the kit not enough? "You want to go on this raid personally I take it?" He asked, "I can assemble the frozens and shards. Would we need anyone else?" He tensed his paws, flexing his claws in and out. He hated conflict, especially with the conflict that came with a high chance of getting bloody.

"I doubt Crimsonrose would so much as let me take one step before taking my first life herself, despite the pain it would cause her, if I didn't allow her to come." He thought a moment. "Barrenfrost would be very disappointed as well. Would likely take his anger out on an undeserving thrall if I don't allow him to come as well." He blinked at Sweetpine. "Do you want to test your new shard Icedivy in battle so soon? I have faith in Violahope as she has held her position for a time. She will not get distracted from her task."

"I would hope there is not much of a battle to be had," he admitted. He knew the purpose of his frozens but the thought of having his newest thrown into battle.. Possibly wounded, possibly killed, scared him quite a bit. He enjoyed her company, if nothing else. Sweetpine looked aside, towards the ground, as if ashamed. "I'll have to have mistyveil make sure she's in good condition, Icedivy did just take some hard hits, she's only rested for a few days now..." He explained.

"I agree she needs to be looked over and set up for victory not failure." Leatherstar's ear twitched "Though I suppose being in a frozen's position she would be quite fretful if you denied her a good fight." the humor shimmered in his gaze. What was it with WinterClan maidens?

He blinked, unsure what he meant. Surely the cat he had spent so much time with was not one that would like to seek out fights. Instead he just nodded, "Ill make sure she rests up well then, just in case. I dont want to have to pick another frozen so soon."
