Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Loelia sat on the outskirts of where Havilah's half of the Regime had settled to set up camp. Her stomach was churning into knots of worry. When she had returned to the Regime they had been in DayClan, the weather was warmer, but out here amongst the never ending snow the cold air tore through her sickly, patchy, short haired pelt. The deep snow intervened quite a bit with her ability to walk. Creek would have been able to come up with a solution but he wasn't here, which meant she would have to be more clever than she already was to figure this one out.
It was night though, she should be sleeping, but instead she was out, away from camp, a million thoughts running through her mind, keeping her up.
"Loelia, I didn't expect to see you out at this hour. Who is looking after your kits?"
Havilah couldn't help but worry about the smallest members of his new Regime - there were a lot of them and not a lot of mothers. But pretty much right away he knew it was wrong to ask a question like that, since in implied he thought Loelia was not properly raising them, and he quickly backed off with a shake of his head and a quiet never-mind.
"It's nice to be finally home," He said next, changing subject and sitting down next to the crippled she-cat, "Cold as sin above, but no different under. I just hope that tomorrow's hunting patrols are fruitful..."
The cold gripped her, but there was a secondary warmth to Havilah's presence, however she did not share his optimism. She had some hope returning to the tunnels, she had left them when she was very young. So the idea of coming back to things being different wasn't outlandish to her. There weren't any memories of the treacherous snow and hardships at that age. Now coming back home she realized that everything everyone had said was true.
"These lands are fruitless Havilah, there's nothing with a heartbeat for miles and even if there were, it wouldn't be enough. That said, I do not regret choosing this path for myself and my kits. I believe in you as a leader."
Havilah was touched by Loelia's belief in him and let the chilly silence fill the air for a few moments. Loelia was right of course, the Regime was just as cold and barren as it had been back when they left all those moons ago. But they'd lived many moons in this frigid landscape with many more hungry mouths to feed. They'd survive, but they wouldn't thrive.
"Shule forgot about the Blind Protector, but I never did," He finally answered, wrapping his tail around his paws to keep warm, "He will recognize us as the true Regime and guide us, same as he's done for generators before us and generations to come. And if he doesn't, I'll find a way to fill our stomaches and keep us safe. I was thinking..."
He paused, hesitant to voice the thought that had been plaguing him since shortly after his return. In his head it was just an idea. Sharing it, however, could turn it into action, an action which he wasn't ready to commit to. But he trusted Loelia, more so than most everyone else, and eventually decided to continue.
"... BrookClan's old territory is not far and was spared from the worst of the destruction. It could be fruitful, but... I don't know. The idea of hunting there makes me feel sick to my stomach."
There had to be a reason why Shule never considered it.
